I'll give Cook this, cause I do like him most of the quarterbacks. His offensive line, weapons, and coordinator didn't show up. Its not an excuse, but he's not the reason they lost. THeir shitty team performance is. Haven't watched much of Ragland, but from what I have seen/read, and I admit I gotta watch more film on him, I don't see a 1st round pick the way some mock drafts do. Alabama players tend to worry me because they're so hit and miss. They may get a big break with Jaylon Smith leaving his game today injured. Reactions to the injury are not positive and it smells like a drop in his draft stock.
Yeah that blows, i love this kid. Don't think the Bears would have sniffed him with where they picked before the injury but now it will be how far he drops and will anyone be willing to take a chance. I don't hate Cook as a QB but don't like him as a first round pick, think he will need time to develop and don't see much of a ceiling for his talent. The guy that intrigues me the most, and I know we have both gone back and forth about this, is Christian Hackenburg. Talk about a coaching staff not doing a player any favors, Franklin doesn't have a clue to use this guy. I am intrigued by him because of his success with O'Brien. The thing you have to figure out is have the last few seasons of getting his ass beat left any lasting marks. The kid in my opinion is by far the best pro style QB in this draft with the highest ceiling but has been wildly inconsistent to say the least the last few seasons. Again, not going to use a first round pick on him but after that I would consider it and take a chance because he has physical skills you just can't teach.
I'll take him over all the LBs. He can play any LB in the 3-4 and did so for ND. His flexibility makes me like him more than Myles Jack. He's also bigger and faster, knee injuries aside. ILB and Edge his strong suits. You start the revamping of the ILBs there. I dont like copping out behind this because its so easy to compare guys by school, but Cook reminds me of Kirk Cousins. He will need a few years and even then, he's not a world beater, he can be efficient. He needs to hold a clipboard for someone and watch. Hackenburg annoys me because I see so much he does right and then watch him get clobbered. He looks so damn good when he's not on his back, concussed. But looking forward to him today, and now he's out of the game in the 1st half. Franklin doesn't have a clue. He wants to run and gun with a pocket passer. His idiocy reminds me of a couple years back when Rich Rod tried doing the same with Tate Forcier, another pocket guy who ended up transferring to San Jose State or Utah, I forgot; and then they played Dennard Robinson at QB at Michigan.
I don't like to compare either but that is a good comparison. Cook is actually a little bigger which is why I would like him better but he won't be a plug and play QB. I like his leadership skills as well, team seems to really respond to him which is something we have been lacking at QB for the Bears since I don't when. Franklin may have ruined this kid. He has a pro style talent like Hackenburg and like a complete idiot stays true to his scheme instead of playing to Hackenburg's strengths. Franklin just got outcoached by a patchwork coaching staff, 90% of which is no longer employed by Georgia after today's game. HC, DC and OC bailed and I was happy for those kids to get the win against Penn St because it wasn't their fault this sh*t happened and were left high and dry. They played hard today when nobody would have blamed them for packing it in. Georgia has some serious talent on defense though, Kirby Smart is going to be happy with what he has on that side of the ball when he is finally done at Alabama.
Rub it in. NU decided not to show up......well they did. They have an all star running back (Justin Jackson) and decided to stop running the ball to him. I like Cook from MSU. And if he's available round 2 you'd be stupid not to take him. This is a very weak QB class, and nobody strikes me as a bonified starter day 1 2016. To me, this is the best OL class in a while. Solidly stacked at OT and OG, even a couple early round OC spots. WR is also deep again. Edge with a couple more guys declaring does too. ILB as well. Some of these QBs are screwed. They're day 2-3 talents that will get taken day 1 and will suffer when they gotta sit and learn. Paxton Lynch is going to end up in Cleveland or Philly. He's screwed. Jared Goff will learn quick in Dallas, St. Louis, or Miami (speculation the Phins love him with their entire Front office and coaching staff out the door) that collegiate "air raid" offenses don't work in the NFL because NFL secondaries are faster, smarter, and he wont have 8 seconds per pocket. With Bill O'Brien looking to stay with the Texans rapping on the door to the playoffs, I see Hackenburg Texas-bound. UGA has 3 guys I really want in Floyd, Jenkins, and the guy I like most, John Theus. McCarron and Mason didn't/dont get touched much; and Gurley/Chubb have a lot of open holes, and this guy is a big reason behind it. Question is, will Theus declare? He's now 3rd round draftable that can fly up to 1st round easy with a solid combine and interviews. RS Junior? Dont know if he's pulling to go or not as I don't follow them so closely. The other 3 on the line sansTheus and Kolton Houston have been not-so-good in 2015. I assume he will, as does "dawg nation" after a quick google search. With Richt recently gone, they put a mic in front of Theus and he wasn't so enthusiastic about UGA athletic director's decision to move on. I will of course, look at more tape on him. He and Jack Conklin are 2 guys I think are going to naturally fall and be round 2 or 3 options. Their stock dropping because Scouts aren't 100% convinced they're LT options at the next level. I see Charles Leno, drink more, and say "why not?"
Theus is a Senior, and on a disappointing offensive line this season, he still performed extremely well. Georgia offensive lineman have done well moving to the NFL and this guy has started from day 1 at Georgia. Like him a lot. I love the other two and hope 1 of them ends up as a Bear, think Fangio could do some great things with either of them. Floyd would be a great compliment to McPhee and while I don't like comparing players, Floyd could be another Aldon Smith in where Fangio moves him all over the place. He is big, fast and strong. Jeremy Pruitt actually had him playing MLB during some of the games this season and he did well there as well. He is not an NFL MLB but it shows his versatility. Jenkins is more under the radar but has been a tremendous contributor to this Georgia defense, brings it every week. Pruitt had him at DE as well in the 3-4. A later round guy to watch is Malcolm Mitchell. Very good WR but has been screwed these last two seasons playing with garbage QB's in Mason and Lambert. Think he will be a solid contributor, maybe in the slot, great athlete, he played CB for Georgia when they were injury depleted for a few games a few seasons ago. There are a lot of these guys I would take in the 2nd round, but this draft has too much top end talent to look at any of them in the first round because I don't think any of them are good enough to be picked in the first round. 1st round picks at WR last season: Amari Cooper - Raiders Kevin White - Bears Devante Parker - Dolphins Nelson Agolhor - Eagles Breshad Perriman - Ravens Phillip Dorsett - Colts Besides Cooper, who on this list looks like an impact player? This is why I hate taking WR's in the first round unless you are loaded at all other positions. It is the last position you should worry about when re-building a team. I don't care if they draft another WR, but don't even consider one until the 4th round or later.
Patg, not sure if you heard about the new Georgia DC but while I'm excited to have Kirby Smart as the new HC, I can't believe who he just hired as his DC, I literally felt myself want to vomit when I heard it. Mel F*CKING Tucker. I can't get away from this guy, my only hope is that Kirby still calls the defensive plays. I seriously can't believe this just happened.
Patg, Another QB I liked from a small school just announced that he is starting today in the D1-AA championship for ND State after coming off a wrist injury. Carson Wentz. He will be a project but has good arm strength and is mobile, but not so much so where he can't be a pocket passer. Let me know what you think and if you are going to watch him today.
On a prior page I did a brutally honest write up of him. He seemed way too "run first, read 2nd" Qb. He's not micjhael Vick fast to compensate.
I guess I need to watch more film. What is funny is, just as you said that, they ran a read-option play and he just scored a TD running the ball but that is only the second time I have seen him run it and he threw it about 10 times already, including a TD. He hasn't been run happy though so far in this game. I like his arm and size, see how the rest of the game goes but so far, the guy has looked pretty good after a long layoff. They are talking possible 1st round for this guy, holy sh*t, thought he was under the radar. I wouldn't touch him until the 3rd or 4th but like his potential.
I would consider it if I was them and elgible. Tucker must be the best salesman ever when it comes to interviews. He has been getting glowing reviews from his time at Alabama and lot of people are very high on him. I cannot for the life of me figure out why. Like I said, it may be fine if Kirby decides to call the defensive plays on game day. He won't be running his defense but rather Kirby's. It is all I can hope for at this point. I just can't believe he is a freaking coach of team I care about again, complete bullshit.
I just passed on the info to some friends in Ga. what they've got to look forward to in Tucktard. I would love to hear what the media down there is saying about him.
The problem I have with Wentz is that I've seen two different kinds of tapes on him - ones where he looks like a future NFL QB, and ones where he looks like he should be nowhere near the NFL. The first tape I watched, I immediately wrote him off. Not even a thought. I was convinced into watching him again - he looked good. Watched a third tape, and wanted to put him away again... I'm going with my gut, and reminding myself that he's not future NFL material. That's what the evidence I've seen points to. As for having Mel Tucker on your team, man... FUCK. That's brutal, dude. I mean, I'd be livid. Sorry, aggie.
Thanks, I still can't believe it. I heard it as a rumor but wrote it off, mainly because I wanted to believe that our new coach wasn't an idiot. Difference here is that Kirby Smart is a great defensive coach and he will want the defense run his way so Tucker will hopefully just be a mouthpiece for what he actually wants to do. I'm giving Kirby the benefit of the doubt but this move has me seriously questioning his decision making already. He definitely isn't my first choice but think he has the tools to be a good NFL QB. Need to watch more film on him, try and find a few bad games he had, see what the issues were.
I'm waiting for my friends to ask me about him because they know I'm a Bears fan, trying to avoid those conversations because as you already know, I'm brutally honest and they probably won't want to hear what I think. I don't believe a word of this but I'm hoping maybe that he is one of those coaches that is better at the college level than he is in the NFL. That's all I got right now, and that's not much because I don't believe he would even be a high school coach. Only thing worse right now would be the Bears cutting Shea Mac and Tucker hiring him as a defensive assistant. Thankfully they already hired an OC, because if Ron Turner's name was mentioned, I may have become homicidal.
and IF the Ravens Fired Juicebox and the Bulldogs hired him would that mean you would turn homosexual and screw football altogether and be a wedding planner?
Can't believe they haven't fired him yet. Juice Box, Turner and Tucker all reunited? Wow, the icing on top of that shit cake would be they hire JA as the athletic director. I can tell you one thing, I sure as hell wouldn't be watching Georgia football anymore. My loyalty to them is not as strong as it is with the Bears, Tucker being hired is testing that loyalty but I really like Smart so I'm to compartmentalize that right now.
After watching this playoff game, Houston Texans will take a QB in the first round. Holy crap is Hoyer bad. 4 turnovers in the first half. I would be shocked if Christian Hackenburg is not a Texan next year if he falls that far. That being said, the Chiefs were only able to manage 6 points on offense plus a TD on the opening kickoff (damn I miss Dave Toub). Andy Reid and Alex Smith together are as fun as watching paint dry. Holy shit they couldn't be more conservative if they tried. I would like to call it a defensive battle but it is more like the battle of two crappy QB's and an ultra-conservative coach. How do you only get 6 points when a team turns it over 4 freaking times?
So where did you go to college then? Cos your a Sun Devils fan, but you also speak of Georgia Bulldogs where Champ Bailey used to play. And you always had that Georgia Bulldogs av thing on CBS. BTW, speaking of that Hackenburg, 1 or 2 years ago everyone was talking of him potentially being this big time player and maybe No.1 overall. Now you never hear about the kid, its all just these guys Goff and Lynch. What happened??
