I absolutely hate mock drafts but while flipping through the channels last night, I caught the end of the "McShay and Kiper" mock draft. I have seen some horrible mock drafts but this one took the cake. Those two morons pretended like they were the GM's for the teams and alternated picks. They proved why with that even though they are draft guru's, neither of them could ever get a job with an NFL team. Besides Winston and Mariota going 1 and 2, I don't think any of their picks in the rest of the 1st round will end up being correct or even close for that matter. They had the Bears drafting Kevin White. Neither of them had Vic Beasley getting drafted in the 1st round!!! Shane Ray almost dropped out of the 1st round as well. Amari Cooper 3rd to the Jags, the Jets draft the OL from Iowa, Giants taking Gurley at 9. It was like a train wreck, I couldn't turn it off, I can't believe those two actually get paid to give their opinions. Bill Polian was on and came just short of calling both of them idiots at a few points.
The networks know what makes them money, and it's not accurate predictions. ESPN, above all others, know this especially well. Take a look at the rest of their programming, as examples. The more shouting, arguing, petty shots taken, and inaccurate analyses you have, the more ratings/things to talk about you'll have, and thus you'll make more money. It's awful. I'd rather listen and discuss with you guys than any one of those corporate blowhards for more than a second. They don't try to get it right, they try to get it high school - shout, be petty, and get ratings. I hate it. I mean, the NFL Network has Charles Davis and Daniel Jeremiah doing their breakdowns, for fuck's sake. I mean, WHO???? If there's anyone I hate more and think less of in the football world than Phil Simms, it's Charles Davis. That might be one of the single stupidest men on the planet. I'm surprised he can stand upright half the time, let alone make it onto a television show. The guy is a complete waste of time and space. Well done, NFL Network. You're the place to go.
I am proud to say that in the last month I have not watched one second of ESPN or NFL network draft programming. I will stick to NFL network's coverage on draft day though.
Well done. I'll admit to watching about half an hour of a special following certain prospects around, because it helps give me an insight to what these guys are really like. I'm glad I watched it - it confirmed for me that Jameis Winston is a two year old, and isn't doing himself any favors with the people he's choosing to surround himself with (for example, his coach, who is also two years old). But otherwise, I've rid myself of it. Just a waste of time and sanity. I really appreciate the NFL Network's coverage of the draft itself, but not having the channel, I just watch it via the internet stream. In the past, they've broadcast the network coverage. Now, though, they're broadcasting a second coverage that they do with the B-team, while the coverage you want to watch is only on the TV. Bummer. I've been a little less into the research and analysis of this draft - don't know if it's the time spent on other things, the general apathy towards this team right now, or knowing that the team can use literally any and every player in the draft at this point... I have a handful of guys I like alot, a handful I really really don't, but more than any year prior, I'm going to be more of a spectator. Interested to follow it, for sure. Stoked. Can it be this weekend???
I normally don't either, because all it does is raise my blood pressure because they are so ignorant. I'm amazed that even though Mariota hasn't played a down in the last few months and he had no notable injury, now all of a sudden they are completely in love with this guy. How the hell does your opinion change when he hasn't played? I just turned it on at the end and saw a recap of their picks about half way through and then just couldn't turn it off because it was so epically bad. I guess the network got what they wanted out of me. I just was amazed at how horrible these guys were at doing this. With the new information we all have access to now, you can see how truly bad these guys are at their job. I wanted to email both of them and ask them to name anything they wanted to bet that Vic Beasley will get drafted in the 1st round. They had the Patriots taking Eric Rowe with the last pick. No way Belichek passes on Vic Beasley if he somehow is sitting there to take Eric Rowe. I would be shocked if Beasley makes it out of the top 10, he tested off the charts, has good size and looks good on film.
Cooper. Top level route runner with high end speed that put up massive numbers in the SEC in a running offense that expects to win. Teams with good defenses knew where the ball was going in the passing game, yet he carved up huge numbers. Grab the playmaker and then work on the front seven on defense and the OL.
My brother told me mcshay and Mel had Beasley falling out of the first round in the latest mock... That's kind of a red flag for the guy I wanted... Ray gets caught with pot is super red flag on how dumb he is. Who is left Dupree? Gregory? Fowler will be gone. Williams too. Could Dupree or Gregory rise because Beasley and ray fall or will teams go in another direction. I like some other pass rushers later on but these last few days haven't gone our way as far as making me feel good about our options at 7. It makes me think we actually will lean toward wr like all the mocks are saying even though I hate that. I gotta lean toward Dupree
Rumor article out that bears trade cutler forte and first and second rounder next year for first pick this year.... Probably bs
Don`t hate it. Jeffery was a very raw jump ball player that tested slow and plays a little slow, but he is still open even when he is effectively covered. Cooper is smaller, but he is faster and most importantly, a very strong route runner. That combo is lethal. Route running is often overlooked. The ability to burn and sell a route is hard to stop without double coverage. Jerry Rice tested slow as fuck, but he was a superior route runner. This guy sells his shoulder and hip fakes pretty damn well...
In an offensive league, dual #1`s are invaluable. We can and have to improve the defense with mid round picks.
Which is one of the reasons we shouldn't have traded Marshall. The front 7 needs to be improved with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks. We need playmakers and solid performers who can fit Fangio's scheme for years.
That trade didn`t make sense. There had to be more behind the scenes... There is a chance to get younger and get some longevity. Despite the Cutler ordeal, a Jeffery, Cooper, Bennett, Royal combo would be attractive for future QB scenarios.
One of the more polished route runner I have seen in awhile mixed with a high skill set. He is always freaking wide open! Pitch and catch...
Are you seriously saying that if Mel and McShay don't like him that it is a red flag? If anything that makes me want to pick him more. I already commented on that mock, it was a complete joke and proves why those two morons aren't working for an NFL team and are instead working for ESPN. With Gregory and Ray falling rapidly, there is absolutely no way Beasley falls out of the top 10 let alone the 1st round. I love Beasley, think he will be a pass rushing stud. A lot of the knocks on Beasley they had on Von Miller prior to him being drafted, and I'm pretty sure he turned out to be ok.
You know, all year long I've looked at this thread and thought, "Man, I can't wait to sit down, do all my homework like I do every year, and really get into some awesome discussion and analysis here". And yet here we are, day before the draft begins, and I haven't done much. I've done enough to know the first rounders I do and don't like, for the most part, but can't tell you much more about anyone beyond that besides a handful or two. I've been caught up with work, teaching, and the trappings of a personal life. Bummer. So, I guess I'm more of a spectator than anything else, this year. Although, I will be happy and eager to sit and watch film on each prospect as they get picked, and analyze from there. But it'll be in hindsight, rather than prognostication. Cheers to everyone who has pitched in and had a say about the coming draft, and cheers to everyone as we approach it. As always, Bear Down.
What the fuck is with some of these kids? La'el Collins no longer attending the draft. Guy's flying back to Baton Rouge because he's a suspect in his now ex-GF's murder. Shane Ray on dope. Gregory too. But one thing that doesn't change, Browns trying to blow both 1st round picks to move up to get Mariota.
The Browns really are unbelievable. Could just be pre-draft smoke, Titans trying to drive up the price. I don't believe much I hear at this point. As for these kids with drugs and arrests, you take them off the board until the 3rd round. Look at Dion Jordan, Josh Gordon and Justin Blackmon. Can't miss in rounds 1 and 2 and with the NFL being in the spotlight for domestic violence and other social issues, don't want a guy that will end up doing something stupid. That is why no matter what you think of Winston on the field, off the field I would not want to draft him in the first round if I was a GM. If I wanted a QB with the #1 pick, I would take Mariota and if you want the best player in the draft you take Leonard Williams. Winston is a huge gamble and I don't think the rewards outweighs the risk with him.
Yeah kind of a red flag. Why wouldn't it be. Those guys know more than us. They're not perfect but nobody is. They hear things we don't. Legit things. It could be bs but probably not. Anyways it makes tons of sense to trade down. I trade down if I'm the bears. If I can stay inside the top 20 I do it. I'd flop first rounders with someone a little behind us. I'd take green beckham with the first pick. I don't know what it takes to get an extra second rounder but if I can flop with some else in the first and gain a second rounder I'd do it and take Shaq Thompson and Eli Harold or Stephen Anthony in the second. Ekpre in the third.
I know what you mean dline I haven't been on any computer in over a week and had to throw something together. Sometimes life just gets in the friggen way of what you want to do. I get more fun out of finding the sleepers in the draft more than anything.
I hear you, man. Same for me - love picking out the players worth taking later on. I love, even better, pointing out which players to stay the hell away from and laughing at the teams who pick them and the talking heads who love them too. Cheers to you, man - you're at the draft itself, right?? I'll be thinking of you while I throw a few back! Bear Down!! I actually think Jameis Winston falls. Maybe not far - someone will trade up for him - but I can see him getting passed on at #1, and maybe falling as far as #4-6. I don't think he's getting taken over Mariota. But, that's my contrarian speaking up, knowing I'll be drowning in Sam Adams by the time I'm wrong, if I'm wrong.
