Gurley was the best with what he had, depending on how much you value pass catching. I think Gordon is better out of the backfield receiving, closer to Reggie Bush in terms of comparison. And Gordon has considerably less mileage coming out of college unlike Bush, held as a part time player then a full time starter in 2014. I think he's a more durable Reggie Bush. In the right situation, I'd venture to say he'll be almost what Ladanian Tomlinson was. Tomlinson had an incredible offensive line that didn't get a lot of credit on top of his natural ability. I wouldn't call Gurley Peterson, because that's a once in a generation; but I'd say he'd be closer to LaVeon Bell.
I'm looking for a Bears GM for the mock draft - http://live4sportnetwork.com/forumlist/viewtopic.php?id=6250
He is not as shifty as Bell but more powerful. I love Gurley, best RB I saw in college football in a long time, he was a game changer at UGA and if not for the suspension and injury, would have won the Heisman running away. The only other player I would say that about at UGA was AJ Green and he turned out to be pretty damn good. Stafford was solid but always left you wanting more, kind of like he does with the Lions now. As for Gurley, if his knee checks out, they should definitely be taking a hard look at him in my opinion. We need a big back and the tread on Forte's tires is getting very thin. I know there are bigger needs but if we are looking to add talent and Fox wants to focus on a heavy run attack, Gurley could definitely answer that bell in a big way.
for those of you who don't want the Bears to draft Gurley, that shouldn't be a problem because it's highly unlikely that he lasts until the 39th pick. ACL injuries are very repairable these days - he might not be fully recovered in 2015, but unless they really screwed up his surgery or rehab, he'll be full strength at some point during the season and a full go for 2016 and beyond, and they still have Forte for next year (so far). for me, with Forte being 30 years old and in the last year of his contract making $9M+ in 2015, I don't agree and I would run to the podium to draft him if he lasted until the their second round pick. yes they need defense, but a strong running game will greatly improve the offense AND the defense by keeping it off the field
I'm looking for a Bears fan to participate in the mock draft. First one to post on the thread is in - http://live4sportnetwork.com/forumlist/viewtopic.php?id=6250
If I even knew what a mock draft is I would do it Tim but ... I'm completely out in left field on this one.
So, between work, women (woman), and teaching, I haven't had more than a lick of time in the past few months. My favorite time of year has passed me right by - haven't been scouting, following transactions around the league, tendencies, etc. I'm floored that the draft is this close, and I am this ill prepared. So, with a slow day at work and me trying to stay awake, I figured I'd take a look at a couple players Chicago might be drafting round one. Obviously there are a lot more picks to consider, but I figured I'd start at the top. Quick synopsis (full one later): Randy Gregory (Nebraska v Miami) - this guy has one hell of a ceiling. He has all the physical tools to dominate at the next level. Problem is, his instincts aren't particularly great (late getting off the line, which is never a good thing), and we very well might be looking at a discipline issue, here (think Aldon Smith/Josh Gordon). Consistent drug use, including leading up to the combine, and several altercations on the field during games. ... Guy can play, but he's raw. He'd be a risk, but a homerun if not a strikeout. Vic Beasley (Clemson v FSU) - guy is quick as can be. I mean, man - fast. Hand up, hand down, doesn't matter. But, he's only fast around the edge. He attempts inside moves, but not often and not well. He gets stonewalled the moment a blocker gets his hand inside on him, and he's done. Lacks discipline sometimes. Most importantly, he gets blocked by backs and TE's way too easily on runs or stunts. If he's not coming full speed from the outside at the QB, he's not doing much. That said, when he's doing the former, he's doing it extremely well. Dante Fowler (UF v FSU) - Well rounded, most NFL-ready. Doesn't necessarily have the physical tools of the other top rushers at the next level, but is a lot more refined. Also lacks discipline, getting too aggressive going inside. Great moves to beat the blocker. Most importantly, and the asset that makes him most valuable - scheme versatility. He can play across the field at LB in a 3-4, and has both experience and skill at it based on college tape. Makes blockers look silly at times with his moves inside and out, and has enough athleticism to get the job done. I'm not sure he has the physical tools to be an All-Star stud at the next level, but he can definitely come in and make an impact from day one. I wouldn't be upset with any of the three. But, looking at them, there are definite differences. If you're looking for the higher ceiling, Gregory is definitely the man. Beasley has the potential to be a monster pass rusher off the edge, and Fowler is super versatile and can be a key piece across the defense. Do they take the behavior risk with Gregory? That's such a tough call. Because of that risk, he's likely to be there for them, but you've got to weigh that risk... I like him the most based on sheer on-field play.
I've been here and there. Busy with a brand new job in the corporate world where I have legit responsibilities and have to adjust to a 9-5 grind. Anyone have tips on beating that fuckin wall I hit at roughly 2 PM where my body just goes "nope" would be greatly appreciated. Fowler wont be there, The Jags, Titans, Skins, and Jets all love him. So I think we'd have to trade up for him. Gregory I like as a trade down candidate. I hate trading down, but if Pace moves down 4-5 spots for another pick I'm okay there. Beasley I'm torn. I read more good than bad. Clemson defensive products that have been big recently have flat out bombed. We just signed a former 2nd round pick, Jarvis Jenkins no? Outside Gildchrist on the Chargers and Byron Maxwell, who're both decent, not world beaters--the 32 Clemson defensive products currently in the NFL aren't good. I remember when Bears fans wanted Da'Quan Bowers a few years back. Fools. His skillset is great. His ability to perform against superior talents I question a bit. I think we need a NT. Shelton is a smart player who is considered a great talent--can move for a 340 lb man. Its not flashy, but if you're serious about a 3-4; get the best NT.
It's all about breakfast. A good high protein breakfast followed by a light lunch should do the trick. Going light on breakfast and bigger on lunch makes it hard to come back. A big Breakfast will power you up for the day. You won't be starving at lunch so you will go lighter allowing your body to function instead of sapping your energy digesting the big lunch. I don't work in the corporate world by I feed them. Back to the subject I agree that Shelton is a great pick. All the edge rushing busts at the top of the draft make me weary of taking one so early unless it's a Mack/Miller type prospect. As much elite edge rushing talent as there is being touted in this draft I see big question marks on all of them. Fowler being the best and like Pat said he isn't going to be there. I would love to trade the pick if someone is in love with Cooper/White. Maybe to a team like the Rams. Maybe still get Shelton and another decent pick.
I'm coming around on him as well. Sounds like a good, solid, hard working kid as well. The NT in a 3-4 is critical and this guy is by far and away the best available. If he can clog up the middle, will make it easier for everyone else to adjust to the 3-4.
5 hour energy says the answer is to load yourself up on caffeine. i'm sure that's a great idea, because no way would they try to talk people into doing stupid shit just to sell more product, right?
Good tip Rob, thanks much. Will try it out Monday. I tried one of those 5 hour energy's today and it was weird. It fought my body. I could feel my body trying to drift then the drink/shot not letting it. No headache/lethargy. But you cant do one of those things daily. I'm not a big energy drink/shot person--and 8,333% yes--that's 8 thousand, 3 hundred and thirty three percent of 2 daily vitamin B (12 and 6 I think) doesn't sound healthy. Otherwise I'll need more than one cup of coffee......what I've been trying.
Anyone (patg) seen this kid from South Dakota state Zach Zenner? I know how many of you guys feel about small school kids or white running backs, but I'm impressed with what this kid has done. Why many of these kids get outclassed when playing the big boys, but this kid put up 600 yards on Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas, and he put up 2,000 yards in each of the last three seasons. The kid also seems to maintain good balance and you better wrap him up to take him down because an arm won't do it. At 6' 220 he's not big and 4.6 not fast but appears to be a football player. On his highlights you can see him outrunning CB's, and making a lot of huge gains. He doesn't seem as fluid as you would like in a RB, but he seems to find a seem and get the job done. While many project him as a FB at this level I think he can be had in the 6th. The Vikings, the Dolphins, and Jags so far have shown interest. What are your thoughts pg? He runs a 4.6 but seems to play a lot faster once he gets his gear.
31 teams will overlook him and then Bellichek will take him in the 6th or 7th and turn him into a probowler.
I don't know much about Zenner but the white RB I am watching is Tyler Varga from Yale, I know patg likes him as well. Similar measurables to Zenner but Varga was impressive at the Senior Bowl and while he didn't get to participate at the combine due to a bone spur, he just had his Pro Day a few weeks ago and apparently did very well. All but 3 teams were in attendance and the Bears were there. I don't know how he is going to fit in the NFL but I think he will be a solid NFL player. Curious to see where he ends up, I could see him being a bigger version of Danny Woodhead. Versatile and with his size, could contribute on Special Teams as well.
Varga seems to be similar in styles although the one thing I noticed about him in his highlights a couple times I noticed he did the sweetness high kick to lose some tacklers. *THUMBSUP*
Yeah I really like the kid, just has that tough scrappiness you love in a player. Bears are never in a position to add a guy like him, always have too many needs. Like Mongo said, the Patriots will steal him and he will be some all-around stud in their offense.
