Wasn't Brady a 7th rd pick too? I know he didn't tear up the league, and I'm also not making a comparison to Brady, but Kyle Orton did a decent job when he stared 10 gms for the injured "Rex is our quarterback Grossman"
I am not denying they are out there, but for every one you can name that was successful, there are probably 10 you can name that weren't. The problem is, we only remember the good ones. I have been trying to forget every QB the Bears started prior to Cutler. The best QB on a team that doesn't have one is always the backup QB... until he actually gets on the field and sucks even worse than the first guy. Browns had some success with Hoyer this year until he got hurt. I really hope McCown can play really well. Lets just say I currently am approaching it with pessimistic optimism based on my knowledge of backups being successful, especially during the Jay Cutler era. I am one who needs to see a guy do well for more than one half of one game. I don't drink the koolaid quite as quickly as some others will.
damn, aggie, show a little love for the guys who ride the bench. being paid big bucks to hold a clipboard in the fall is no cake walk, u know. oh snap. i take that back i don't argue your basic point at all. but, that wasn't what baby asked. she asked if it ever happened. it has. she didn't ask was it common, or likely to happen in this particular instance. it's certainly not common, and i have an allergy to predicting the future
aggie, How about the old stat that got shoved down our throat during the Bears / Packers (SUCK) games during the Brett Favre era about how many starting QB's (i believe it was 26) the Bears had since Brett Favre became the starter for the Packers (SUCK) %)
That stat did come immediately to mind when discussing this topic and goes to show that quality starting QB's are not normally found at the backup QB role. I do remember that stat being shown everytime we played the Packers (SUCK). That is drafting futility at its finest. You have to try to be that bad and the GM's during that period were very good at being bad when it came to drafting QB's or even finding free agent QB's. The Packers (SUCK) go from Favre to Rodgers. The Colts go from Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck. The Bears go from Sid Luckman...massive amout of years of horrible QB's to Jay Cutler.
He did play well. It looks like that he is built to play good within this system. They are going to blitz him as is the Packers MO and it is up to Trestman to game plan. The good news is that they should know everything there is to know about the Packers offense and our offensive line is greatly better than the slugs we have had there in the past. Another plus is that they will have two weeks to game plan for Green Bay. I think that it will be the left side of the offensive line that is going to be the key of this game and on defense, they really need to keep Rodgers in the pocket. I think that somehow, against pretty much all hope, that our defensive ends need to earn their paychecks.
Sure. Kurt Warner was out of football and bagging groceries, got a call and made a team. e was a back-up quarterback, got a chance and led them to a Super Bowl win. Warner was one of those guys who sometimes gets way over-looked. He was a big slow guy. However, he had a cannon for an arm, a very intelligent guy, very calm in the pocket, and tough as they come. Very few quarterbacks were tougher than this guy in his ability to stay in the pocket knowing he was going to get crushed as he delivered the ball.
This is one of two weeks during the season when I cheer for the Bears. The enemy of my enemy is my friend and all that. Don't judge the Packers by what they did last Sunday. The Vikings players have quit on Frazier. The Jags would have put up 40 on this sorry bunch. Go Bears and The Packers Suck.
So you think the Packers suck? What about the mayor of Toronto? This is inexcusable. Rob Ford. The crack-smoking fool.
The video that he vehemently denied existed turned up and is in the hands of the Toronto Police Investigations Force. You know the video showing him smoking crack? Yeah that one. Seriously embarrassing. Read this ... http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/05/rob-ford-crack-video-toronto-mayor.html
He must have been an admirer of the former Mayors of Detroit and Washington D.C. along with former Illinois Congressman, Jessie Jackson III.
