Its like that, unfortunately in big corporations. I would bet that some "executive" committee decided to rule that having someone deviate from the "norm" would open the floodgates to some silly so-called "charities" or "causes". The larger the company the more stringent the policy(s).
I think he should wear them. Show up at the game with a check(inevitable fine) in hand and specify which menatal health charity that it should go to. EDIT: With all the recent issues that NFL players have had... Titus Young and Belcher come to mind. Makes you wonder if the NFL is just a $$$ machine or if they really care about thier employees...

I almost cried when I saw those shoes on the field last night. Marshall has a lot of integrity standing up to the organization like that.

Yeah, I was stoked to see Marshall wearing those shoes. Dude was doing the right thing for the right reasons. And, as Crextin suggested, he's both paying whatever fine they ask of him as well as matching it in a donation to a mental health charity. Hell yeah. Right on.
Sometimes organizations can't help but shooting themselves in their own foot, even re-loading the weapon and doing it again. This kind of a fine by the NFL is asinine. By the way, where does this fine money go? Are there different categories? FOr example they just fined Suh $100K for a dirty play. Who gets that money? Better be to a good charitable organization!
