Just had one of my students ask me to write him a recommendation letter for his college applications. He's the school valedictorian, the band's drum major and one of the program's best musicians, an extremely bright young man and phenomenal learner, and a great leader. He's applying to some very prestigious schools. With this being the first letter I've had to write, I'd ask any of you with advice or experience to share it. Obviously I'd like to do a great job for him, and get him into whatever school he likes. I've already had him write me an outline, telling me exactly what he wants me to say, which is a bit of advice I got in high school. Any and all advice is appreciated!
Sounds like you know the kid pretty well. Just go with your gut and your honest feelings about him. Try to balance what he does as far as school and curriculim goes with what you know about him personally. Include any extra curriculars he participates in. Interactions you have witnessed between him and his peers as well as other teachers. If you know what his ambitions are you can speak on that or give an opinion of what he can become later in life. Don't over think it. He's obviously a bright kid so being honest is almost always sure to be enough.
Just for the record, the Packers do in fact Suck. To the Clay Matthews hit, honestly he shouldn't have piped up prior to the game. I don't think it was cheap, but it was very clearly a penalty and out of bounds -to me anyway. Honestly, the whining from Packers fans about the offsetting penalties and the refs mistake to replay the down are funny to me, because had the 49ers not retaliated they get a big gain and a FIRST down anyway. Harbaugh has to get them disciplined. See: Mills/the Bears at the end of the Cinci game to clinch it. Reverse the jersey I would probably just own up that it was a legit penalty from a member of my team. Oh, and in case I didn't mention it, the Packers Suck.
and I don't think it's appropriate to equate gay as less than like your "totally not gay thread" but you're mod and can do what you want. Adding the (gays welcome) doesn't change the fact that you are using gay as something less than to show that your buddies are cool and tottally not gay because gay is bad....The caveat doesn't change that fact. Then again next year you could go back to being a Packers fan so I understand you championing there cause.

I do not think he is anywhere as dirty as Suh but the fact is that Roid Boy Matthews wants to get all of the headlines and he shot his mouth off about his desire to hurt Kapr. Trash talk is one thing. That crap happens all of the time. But when you shoot your mouth off about stuff like this, the zebras are going to watch you closely. He got what he deserved.
