What does that even mean? Ugh. No wait!! Never mind!! Please don't explain. I'm just going to see some other stupid thing I've said riding on the end of someone's signature line.
Hey all, just wanted to let you know that, since Tim was looking for someone to do the Creative Contributions for the Chicago Bears, I volunteered. With the amount and depth of things we talk about here on the Bears board, I'll no doubt cover topics we've already hit on, and likely voice thoughts that many of us have shared. I'm writing mostly for the non-Bears fan - a piece on the offensive line, for example, falls into the above category, and includes a lot of what we've already covered here. But, as always, critique, debate, and anything else is always welcome. I'm hoping I can bring worthy stuff to the table. Lemme know what you think once the first article is thrown up on the site next week.
I am getting excited for Bears Football! I just found out Harry was fired plus Waddle and Silvy is drive time now. I think that I'm going to get a Brandon Marshall jersey. Melton better have a big season, I'm wary on the guy for some reason. Go Bears F! the Packers!
That's awesome dline!! You're going to do really well at this! Your blogs are going to generate even more discussion here ... and that is a GOOD thing! All the best ... and you know that your fellow Bears fans will be giving you tons of input. Count on it. Err ... although not from me, right? I know my place here and it's not at the front of any football discussion. Now if we were to start a cooking thread, photography, working out, training or Yoga or Tai Chi thread I'd be happy to help you out ...
That sucks about Harry getting fired. I often switch between Carmin, Yurko and Harry & Boers and Bernstein on the drive home. It will be strange not hearing Harry anymore. Packers Blow, I mean suck, no I mean blow.
I appreciate that, baby. And you're catching onto football just fine - keep reading, keep asking and commenting, and you'll be there before you know it. On the topic of food, real fast, I went to Epcot a few weeks ago, and had an awesome culinary experience. Went to the UK for fish and chips (like fish in a cloud - delicious), tried a handful of different beers, and finished off with a night at Japan. Had a glassful of high-grade schochu mixed with hot water (the traditional way, apparently) and a plateful of swordfish grilled right in front of me. Awesome, awesome trip.
Well it helps a lot that all of you gentlemen (yes, I said gentlemen) and ladies are so prolific in your posting. The quality of the postings and discussions from the Bears board is always excellent. It also helps that bww has been kind enough to mentor me in my attempts to understand the game. Reading the thread about casual vs bandwagon fans is a perfect example. I've never heard of anyone having the kind of reaction that some of you have described having to a losing game. I just don't know anyone that passionate about a team or a sport. This does not mean that I represent all Canadians in this it's just me ... I don't come from a team sport background and I don't really know many people who do. There is a fire in you guys and you really do breathe and bleed the Blue and Orange. Swordfish? God ... mmmmm that sounds delicious. Fresh Swordfish is not a fish you can come by with easily in Ontario. I've only ever had the opportunity to eat it when we've been traveling. What a great experience for you dline! Okay I shared this with bww already but I thought I would put it up here too. Just in case one of you gents would like to try it. I've had the distinct impression for the past year or so that there are a lot of bacon lovers here so ... here is a recipe for Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Chicken Breasts and it sounds easy to make. The cheese and shallots are easily switched out, I think bww uses spinach in his sometimes and I've found recipes that use Boursin cheese (that's what I'm making tonight!) or Ricotta or anything similar. Bacon Wrapped, Cream Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breasts: 1 boneless skinless chicken breast 2 tablespoons cream cheese 1 tablespoon green onion, Chopped 2 pieces bacon, Partially Cooked Directions: Pound out Chicken breast so it is about 1/4" thick. Mix together cream cheese and green onions and spread cheese mixture over 1 side of chicken breast. Roll Chicken breast up to conceal cream cheese. Wrap partially cooked bacon around chicken breast and secure with toothpick. Place on baking sheet and back for about 30 minutes at 375. Broil for about 5 minute to crisp bacon. Doesn't this sound yummy?
You guys still think the Packers suck, despite what happens when you type "The Bears" into Google? Or the fact that the Bears have their own song devoted to how much they suck? It's been over twenty years since this song was released and the Bears STILL have only one lousy Super Bowl! Peace!
Well I don't have much to say about this Major except that I would still far prefer the Bacon-Wrapped Stuffed Chicken Breasts to the Packers. And I'm a Vegan. Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to come back to play in my Pick 'Ems Contest!
You wouldn't have said that three years ago. I've never understood how someone can go from being a Packers fan to a Vikings fan to a Bears fan. I mean, I get you're not a typical bandwagon fan, because the Bears aren't better than the Packers, so it's not like you're jumping to a better team. I can only guess you like the conversations better with the Bears fan. I remember you pretty much jumped the Packers scene once LombardiNCoke left CBS. I guess I won't try to fully understand it, but I'm glad you seemed to settle in and find a team.
I have explained my debut into the ranks of NFL fandom many times in the past MPF but I don't mind doing it again for you It was in fact LnC who invited me to start watching the NFL. We were very close friends for 10 years prior to my coming onto the CBS sports board. I first started watching and cheering for the Vikings because I really liked Favre and I love the colour purple. When the Favre debacle began I was disgusted by the ensuing vulgarity of the situation so I dropped the Vikings like a hot potato. That was a personal choice. LnC then persuaded me to cheer for the Packers even though I despise the colour green and especially when it's overlaid with a putrid yellow. I didn't care much for Rogers because although I admired his work on the field ... he just didn't impress me at all away from the field. I also really don't like that hat he wears when he's on the sidelines ... he just looks like a dope to me. Anyway ... I enjoyed the back and forth with certain Packer fans like Packerzrule and LnC and especially watching Einsamer Wolf's gradual meltdown whenever the Packers lost. That was hilarious. A year ago last May LnC made some really big mistakes in our relationship and caused a shit storm to happen in my personal life. I don't have much experience or authority when it comes to talking about football but one thing I do know and that is when someone as unethical and unprincipled as LnC messes with me ... I want nothing to do with him or anything he is a part of. I left the Packers' fanbase because of him. I can't make that any more simple than that. One thing I want to make perfectly clear to you and to anyone else who has the audacity to ever question my allegiance to the Bears ... It is absolutely nobody's business who I choose to cheer for, who I choose to talk with, which boards I decide to frequent or which team jersey to wear. I am, at best, a casual fan. I am trying to understand the intricacies of the sport and with great thanks to bww, Mongo, Everton, dline, ginny, and a bunch of other very patient and generous people I am finally learning about football. I never professed to be anything more than a casual fan. I love the game but not nearly as much as the rest of the fans on this board. I don't make any excuses because it's none of anyone's business how I express my loyalty. It's a great game, it's fun to watch but I don't bleed from the eyeballs when the Bears lose. And that is why I am a Bears fan. Plus I look really good in blue and orange.
OK, fair enough. I never knew the whole story. I'm going to put some chocolate and a bottle of wine down, and I will slowly back away.
Awww ... I came across too strong didn't I? I'm sorry. I got mauled over my switching teams by people like Einsamer Wolf and it left a really bad taste in my mouth. I don't consider any of that anyone else's business but mine. As I pointed out to him ... at least I'm not a psychotic, pathological narcissistic pedophile. I don't understand why I have to defend a choice I've made to anyone else anyway. Who cares who anybody cheers for? It's fun to poke fun at them (ex. this thread) and to trash talk but when things get serious and people get bent out of shape? That's when I'm out. I accept your kind offer of chocolate and wine MPF and please come back anytime but be very careful of the monsters that lurk within this thread. They can get pretty nasty
