I put my cash on long term... Nylander is well aware of what Larkin just did with Detroit... Nylander might want eight and settle for 5 also. Probably doesn't help Nylanders cause that Toronto has to deal with Marner and Mathews also... that might play a part in how long the Leafs can afford to pay Nylander.
He's getting $6 to 6.5M, is it 3 years or 8? Nylander might want to go short and gamble 3 good years to get back in @$10M.
The value will change depending on length. It’s not just price xyz times whatever term is decided, price changes with term.
The leafs would love to tie him up for 8 years at $50M. His trade value would skyrocket if he outperforms. Short-term, his salary is a side-bar. A 3 year deal would just be him gambling that he could score an elite deal later on if he lights it up. A 3 year deal would still bring him about $5.5 to $6.5M per year.
Why would EK leave one crap team for another? I can see Ottawa using Vancouver as leverage but that’s it. EK can flat out tell anyone he won’t be resigning and Vancouver can’t risk the massive nut it’s gonna take to land EK.
Is Sundin coming back? Nylander ain’t getting it done. And the Leafs couldn’t pay up for JT, AM, and EK without disassembling the entire team.
If EK doesn't guarantee that he'll sign long-term with any team then he aint worth shit. I wouodn't gamble losing nylander for 1 year of EK. If they really wanted him they would get rid of gardiners cap, that's for starters. This all wouldn't need to get done until next season anyway. I wonder why PC hadn't looked into this?
I don’t think anyone wants him for 1 season, at least not for what the reported price is. Ottawa is already a mess I don’t think they can take the PR hit by giving him away. Seems like a standoff with Nill over Heiskenen.
One season would be insane, he's on record as sayin that he won't sign during the season until he's 100% sure the wife likes the city.
Unless it’s TB, who will probably try to wait it out and sign him next summer if Ottawa keeps the price high.
