How is that Manziel's fault that he had a big-bodied deep threat?

Will he not have that here?

    Josh Gordon

I also forgot that Central Florida didn't have deep threats when Bortles was there. Oh, wait.

    Breshad Perriman - 20.8 YPC
    Rannell Hall - 15.5 YPC
    J.J. Worton - 15.3 YPC

Just because you hate Manziel doesn't mean he doesn't have great downfield accuracy. He played exceptionally well in the situation he was put in. That's all you can ask of him.

So why go with the guy who displayed "similar" flaws against inferior competition?

$2.9 million (the difference between #1 and #4) is still a lot of money on a rookie deal. Plus a club option on the #1 pick contract.

I know, Irish! The more a read / hear, the less and less I think Houston doesn't take Manziel.

    :(

If that happens, the Browns need to make a play for Teddy Bridgewater. If they even consider drafting Bortles, I may have to hang it up.

SAS, what if they traded their 2nd rd. pick this year for K. Cousins, and then used those top two picks to fill other needs? Say Watkins and Carlos Hyde perhaps...or whoever you like. Would you get behind that? Just curious.

  4. bluez M.V.P. Browns Indians

teams are going to overdraft these QB's this year out of need . this class the more I read about it reminds me of the Gabbert / Ponder who were all overdrafted because teams panicked to fill a need .

if any team trades up to take any of them they are IDIOTS !

  5. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Absolutely not. If the Browns aren't going to spend #4 on a QB this year (huge mistake, IMO) then I would prefer to stand pat with Brian Hoyer at the helm. I wouldn't give up more than an R4 for Cousins in the first place.

Now, sticking with Hoyer and drafting Watkins (#4) and an interior lineman (Yankey, OG) or cornerback (Gillbert) at #26... that would depend.

If the F/O doesn't go QB at #4 (or trade up to get one sooner) they'll need a homerun draft to make that palatable.

Teddy Bridgewater would have been a Top 5 pick last season, probably the first player off the board, had he been eligible. I understand 2013 was a "weak" draft class, but Bridgewater is being passed over by Manziel and Bortles by many folk these days as the third-best in this class.

And unfortunately, that's just the nature of the position. It's the most important position in sports and the best ones (look around the league) are found in R1.

    Bridgewater is being passed....hmm

By national beat writers who need something to write about two months away from the draft.

He was #1 in 2013, he was #1 going into 2014, he was #1 in December....NOW, he is being "passed over" despite doing nothing but being consistently the best QB in college football doing it the way any NFL evaluator would expect him to.

"Magically" he will regain that spot after the combine and pro day interviews...they will begin praising him for his football knowledge and he will ultimately be the #1 overall draft pick either by the Texans or Browns..

  8. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Hey, right or wrong, it's just what we're hearing today.

I've seen a couple places now where two of the "QB needy" teams in the Top 5 have Blake Bortles rated as their #1 guy. Which means at least two teams in the Top 5 have absolutely NO idea what they're doing. Jacksonville, and... ?

    God let it be Oakland.

Bridgewater would be a great consolation prize if Cleveland misses out on JFF. However, they also are saying he could weigh in under 200 pounds, which would not be great for him. He, more than Manziel or Bortles, is definitely more of an injury risk.

From a purely passer standpoint, however, there simply isn't a better QB in this draft. I personally believe he's a better pure passing talent than Andrew Luck, who's jock everyone continues to worship.

Injury risk why? He is elusive, but he doesn't run. He is a passing QB, not really much of a multi-threat, even though he has the ability to.

I am curious who and why someone gave you a thumbs down for that last post Sam...I gave you an up just to even it out, because I can't really argue with it too much..

    I'm still catching up.

    For comparison sake...

Gabbert has the size you look for in a QB, however, he was not even a great college QB, so I don't know why anyone is surprised he didn't make it in the NFL.

As a college starter he was a 60.9% completion QB over two years as a starter with 40 TDs and 18 INTs over those two years...

THOSE stats do not even add up to the 3 QBs in 2014's single last season..

You can't even argue that he at least did it in the SEC, since they didn't join the conference until 2012, HE played in the Big12.

The top 3 QBs (especially the REAL top 2, Bridgewater and Manziel) of this draft are head and shoulders above the Blaine Gabberts of the world...IN EVERY ASPECT OF THE EVALUATION PROCESS.

Well, you will get your chance to jump off the Bortles bandwagon, he has decided to throw at the combine now. Everyone will downgrade him immediately following....

    Huh?

So you think Houston does pick Manziel? -or- You think Houston doesn't pick Manziel?

    Translation, please. *SCRATCH*

  15. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Just due to him being slight of frame. 6'3" and 190 pounds is a little guy -- especially for the QB position. He's also had wrist and ankle injuries in the past, most likely due to taking punishing hits from bigger defenders (and that's in the American Conference).

It's not an overwhelming concern, since he can still add size to his frame, but a concern nonetheless.

Can our screennames be changed? I'd like to go with S "He Hate Me" AS.

  17. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

    Both?

    :p

No... I think Houston is going to take Manziel #1 overall.

    Manziel 5'11.75'' 207 lbs

  19. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

Bridgewater at 6'2 1/8th", 210-ish (I don't remember). I don't trust the weight at the combine, really - guys can make that fluctuate depending on demand. His playing weight was tiny, that's for sure. Tiny, tiny hands.

    Bortles at 6'5", 234.

I'm still on the Manziel train. I don't think any of this is really news - you watch these guys enough, you know what you're getting.

  20. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

    Bridgewater 6'2 1/8" 214 Hands 9 1/4"
    Bortles 6'5' 234 Hands 9 3/8"
    Manziel 5' 11 3/4" 207 Hands 9 7/8"
    McCarron 6' 3 1/4" 220 Hands

OK, how about 6' 2" 214 Sam, sound better?

Now, when you take the 3" difference between Bortles and Bridgewater, is the 20 lbs really that much more of an advantage?

I will take 6' 2" and vastly superior QB essentials over a 3"/20lb physical difference ANY day of the week.

Teddy's my guy, with Manziel a close 2nd...and Bortles a fairly distant 3rd...

I would go as far to say, if Bridge and Manziel are both gone at 4, I would be on board with Sammy Watkins and going Garoppolo in the 2nd round.

    On another note...

Bortles has decided to throw, as will A.J. McCarron and Garoppolo...Bridgewater has not announced which yet.

Manziel and Carr will not throw.

That is all I have heard so far...
