I am taking Watkins at # 4 if he is still there , then at # 26 the best QB left .I know we need to groom one but I am not sold on any of them at # 4 .

I have seen the beanstalk play on TV . his style tells me he wont last long .he will get laid out in the NFL .

    Is he a leader ?

is he one of the guys ?

will other players on the Browns gravitate towards him ? very important .the QB position is more than can he play the game . can he lead and can he not get to down when things go bad or to high when things are going good .

we are in no position to be waisting draft picks on some frat boy . that's where we disagree on Johnny Fluke . we have drafted enough busts ..ENOUGH !

If we take him I will cringe but will get behind him .I will have no choice but to . if he pans out great I will take back all I have said . I don't care just turn this Goddamn thing around here *HELP*

If they trade up to grab one of them waisting all those picks you will hear me scream all the way to Cleveland and parts of Canada .

I am waiting until after the combine & individual work outs to make my mind up on who I want but right now Bridgewater if he is there at # 4 maybe I could live with that but Johnny Fluke ..HELL NO !

Just get this Chit right . ENOUGH of this twenty years of total crappy football ..crappy draft picks .

then there is Banner who knows nothing . he is a bean counter that is all :! & Lombtard making those calls . :! .we kept Farmer but how much say will he have ?

my lack of trust in those two has me taking the wait and hope they don't screw it up approach here .

His teammates LOVE him...he never gets down on the field. He isn't a whiner, like you make him out to be. He rally's the troops when they need rally'd.

I AM A "FRAT" BOY YA HICK!!

You wouldn't have the first clue on what it means in the first place. I have been out of college for nearly 20 years, and those "Frat Boys" still have my back to this day...When I went through my first wedding, "frat boys" were there...first kids, "frat boys" were there....my divorce? It was a "frat boy" who flew up from Florida with a plane ticket and forced me onto a plane to go down south for two weeks that helped me on the road to recovery from said divorce.

Every frat boy that I know is successful in life, careful with the wording friend!

It's much harder to repair something said, than to actually join in on a conversation about reality...

You are ignorant if you think we are ever going to win without a QB...sorry, but that is pretty plain and simple.

Teddy Bridgewater has EVERYTHING you look for in a QB...What is his down fall? He is the best prospect other than Andrew Luck to come out in ten years....That includes Kaepernick and Wilson who were just in the NFC Championship game!!

So, if all of you were willing (and don't deny the bitching that took place on these boards about being "out smarted" by the Redskins) to give up all of those picks for RGIII...why in the HELL would giving up a #4 and #26 be a waste?

I would really like for someone to explain this to me????

I keep asking...but I never get an answer...

The answers I get are "feelings" and "intuition" What does that add up to????....Losing, that's what!!!

If the Texans are willing trade partners, then they best make that trade as soon as possible!!

If they are not, then you sit back and hope that Jacksonville ( or no other team trades up to the Rams spot) passes on Manzeil.

These two ARE the best chance of a franchise QB in this draft...BY FAR!!

Miss on them, and most likely we won't be in position to get another one for some time to come as young as our roster is. However, we may be stuck in 8-8/9-7 purgatory until we get one!

Then I can sit on here and listen to you all bitch some more 3 years from now....

I guess I can be thankful we have Lombardi running the show...

"wait until after the combine and workouts"...come on man...watch the film. These guys are doing it RIGHT NOW in games..the other projects is where these workouts will help you make up your mind whether they are a project worth taking on. But when you have an individual who can, and has, do it in games consistently AGAINST THE BEST TALENT IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL ACCORDING TO EVERY EXPERT...You don't need a freaking workout to tell you whether to pick him or not.

Again, how do you call it a "FLUKE" when he did it consistently week in and week out for two years against the SEC?

A fluke is when you are good, not necessarily great...then have a career game in a bowl to thrust yourself into the lime light and top ten consideration.

Johnny Manziel was coined a top 5 QB in 2012 and did nothing to dissuade that in 2013, other than go to college parties as a college student.

Teddy Bridgewater WILL be the #1 overall pick, it is just a matter of who is in that spot to take him...

And yet, you want to sit back and see who falls to us at #4 without any hint of using some of the ELEVEN draft picks to move up a couple spots to get the guy you absolutely know you want...typical...

MY "intuition" is telling me he is going to have a pretty fair say, otherwise, I think he would be the GM of another team right now. I think he certainly had an opportunity to abandon ship, but he CHOSE to stay here. I think his future (and thus the Browns future) is bright.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Look, no one knows who will make it and who won't in the NFL...it is always a crap shoot...

But if either Bridgewater or Manziel are available at 4 you take them...If the Texans are willing to trade back 3 spots for an extra first rounder you take it and the QB you feel the most comfortable with...If the Rams are willing to take the same deal if the Texans don't, you make the trade and take your QB..

If the Texans want a QB, they take Bridgewater, then if someone is willing to break the bank and waiger the future of their team to move up to the Rams for Manziel, then yes...I would certainly not be devastated with Sammy Watkins at #4 and either Derek Carr or Jimmy Garoppolo at #26...just be aware BOTH will be projects that will need to sit a couple of years to adapt to the NFL. If Hoyer were to get hurt again, I don't think either would jump in and succeed right away...and it could stunt their growth going forward.

So, be careful what you wish for...

I just want to clarify my stance in this draft...

I do think there are other potential QBs other than these two...BUT, I have no reasonable doubt they are the most talented and have shown in their college career what they can do in the NFL. More than any other individuals in the draft.

As for the other QBs, there are certainly other QBs, that I would put on a higher learning curve than many other recent past first round recipients such as Brandon Weeden, Jake Locker or Blaine Gabbert.

I feel Bortles, Carr and Garoppolo are all at a higher level right now than they were...and one or two of them may even be available with our second round pick....

But ON their level there are even more prospects...

I just feel these two are in another class, much like Luck and Griffin were 2 years ago...Bridgewater is a step below Luck and 3 steps above RGIII. Manziel is 2 steps behind Bridgewater and a step above RGIII.

After watching a bit of film on Manziel. While loaded with athlectic ability. He got away with too many risks with the football that he wont get away with in the NFL. All too often I watched him scramble around only to throw the ball down the middle of the field into traffic. Now that may have worked out for the better more often than not at A&M, but I'd wager that at the Pro level he'll throw a ton more int's than compltetions.

If I have to choose at #4 between Manziel and Watkins. I'm going with Watkins, and I'll take my chances on a developmental guy at #26.

AS to the question of trading up to #1 or #2 with #4 and #26. If we get Bridgewater I'm on board, but not for anyone else.

  6. beachbum M.V.P. Manager Steelers

Is there any chance Clowney drops to #4? He's gotta be ahead of Watkins on the Browns board - on everyone's board. And before you say he's not a scheme fit Pettine runs a hybrid defense. Look what he did for Mario Williams this year. Mario isn't a 3-4 guy either but Pettine made it work in Buffalo. If the Rams stay at #2, and there are no guarantees they will I think it's more likely they take an OT than a DE. The one thing they have is pass-rushers.

  7. crextin Franchise Player Browns

Tough One beach... Though the Clown is definately talented I question his work ethic and desire especially after watching the capitol one bowl. He was a force to be reconed with when he wanted to be and other times was blown out of the play. Didn't do very well in pass coverage.

It really depends on which QB's are left. I'd take a chance on the clown over manziel, but wouldn't pass on Bortles or Bridgewater.

As for Clowney over Watkins. Several things need to be considered.

What additions/subtractions were made during free agency.

Dez Bryants health and which player you feel would have a more positive impact on the teams success.

Given that the Browns have bigger holes to fill on the offensive side of the ball I would lean toward Watkins unless I felt that there are a few other WR that could be had in the 2,3,4 rounds that would make an immeditate impact on offense as rookies.

  8. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

    Yes, there is a "chance"

    I see it this way:

#1 Texans trade down with Browns - Teddy Bridgewater
    #2 Rams - Jake Matthews
#3 Jaguars - Blake Bortles, Jedd Fisch is a traditional OC
#4 Texans - Jadeveon Clowney, the man they wanted all along and might take at #1 if they don't trade down
#5 Oakland Raiders - Johnny Manziel

  9. DvlDawg Starter Browns

I would not be opposed one bit to the Browns drafting 2 QBs this spring. Take whichever QB that they are going to take in the first round, and then taking a second one in the 3rd or 4th round.

My personal wish list would be

Bridgewater as starter, or groomed for a year by Shanny
Hoyer as back up, or starter is Bridgewater ca't beat him out in camp
A.J. McCarron or Jimmy Garoppolo with out 2nd 3rd or 1st 4th. In that order, if they are still there with those picks.

Mostly though.... I want a coaching staff intact for more than 2 years. I want stability.... winning brings stability. QBs are the key to winning. We need a QB. I don't care who it is. I would take Johnny Football in a second if he would bring stability to the franchise.

    True that !

I come from a different world . one where you got your hands dirty to get the job done . this ignorant according to you. blue collar proud " hick " wouldn't change a thing . The school of hard knocks was my fraternity. that's the kind of guy I want leading my team . one of the guys . one who will get his hands dirty and stand up when things aren't going good .

like I stated before I will take everything into consideration before I make a choice . gather all intell on the QB candidates . get inside there head and see what they are all about .it is more than can he play . can he lead as well . if there a diva like RGIII who I didn't want in the first place just say NO . if they have a sense of entitlement just say no .

Nobody in here is a NFL Scout . we all have our own opinions of who or what we want in a QB. in a leader .it doesn't make any of us smarter than the next guy .

Just do the right thing .

Lombardi and his " stellar " track record scares the hell out of me in this draft .

two months and we go racing . its what us " hicks " do I guess .I wouldn't change a thing .

  11. bluez M.V.P. Browns Indians

there is real good chance he drops . some question his drive . he takes plays off . he needs a foot in his ass to motivate him to play every down . no thanks .let some other team deal with that headache .

  12. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

All right, knowing where all our pre-compensatory picks are and what our coaching staff (for the most part) looks like, here's the second shot.

1-4: Johnny Manziel, QB Texas A&M

I'm keeping "Johnny Football" at our first pick just because I don't want to mock the trade we'll inevitably have to pull off in order to make sure we get him. 5'10" and 200 pound Russell Wilson solidified this pick for me. Manziel is simply a winner. He's a dynamic play-maker and fierce competitor. At 6'1" and 210 pounds, he's not too little for the rigors of the NFL.

    No change

    1-26: David Yankey, OG Stanford

While I'm not usually a fan of taking linemen early, our offensive line desperately needs some help -- especially if Alex Mack is allowed to walk. Shawn Lauvao is both awful and a free agent and we have almost no depth behind him.

Yankey is a flexible, talented lineman who is probably the best pulling guard in the class. Improving the line will go a long way in making a second tier running back look better.

Previously: Odell Beckham Jr., WR LSU

    2-35: Jarvis Landry, WR LSU

Greg Little is well-below average and Davone Bess was an absolute joke last season. Bess should already be cut from the team and Little is entering his final year. Josh Gordon is going to need someone to take coverage pressure off of him, so enter Jarvis Landry.

A good-sized receiver with great hands and work ethic. Landry was part of a dynamic duo at LSU (Odell Beckham Jr.) but was actually the more reliable weapon, leading the team in receptions over the past two seasons.

Previously: Lamarcus Joyner, DB Florida State

    3-71: Jeremy Hill, RB LSU

Another Tiger off the board for Cleveland! With Dion Lewis returning, Hill adds the missing dimension to that one-two punch. Hill is a down-hill, one-cut runner who played well for LSU when he was staying out of trouble. The F/O has shown they will take risks on players, so the off-field concerns don't weigh heavily on this decision.

    Previously: Chris Borland, ILB Wisconsin

3-83: Victor Hampton, CB South Carolina

Plenty has already been made of the Browns' F/O being enamored with the Seahawk's model for success. One of those is big-bodied cornerbacks who can run and hit. At 5'10 and 205, he fits the mold Seattle uses. Raw talent and an aggressive hitter, Hampton could be a gem with proper coaching.

Adding an RCB to pair with Joe Haden should strengthen the pass defense and allow Buster Skrine to move back inside to the slot where he's incredibly more effective.

Previously: Christian Jones, LB Florida State

  13. bluez M.V.P. Browns Indians

SAS Question on the Yankey pick ..Can he run ? the Browns are going to use more of a zone blocking scheme from what I understand so we will need O Linemen that can move .

say good riddance to Lavaou , Pinkston & maybe Schwartz . I hope they resign Mack as he fits the mold .

  14. bluez M.V.P. Browns Indians

ESPN Cleveland considers UCF's Blake Bortles the "best fit" for the Browns amongst this year's draft-eligible quarterbacks.

It appears many teams are going to consider Bortles their "best fit" thanks to his size (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) and command of the pocket. Cleveland isn't believed to be one of them, however. GM Mike Lombardi's club has been strongly connected to Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel for months. At this point in the draft process, Bortles resembles a rich man's Jake Locker, but very much appears destined to go in the top 10.

  15. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Good, I was starting to wonder if you even read that at all!!

I was making a point and it obviously was taken!

I don't consider you a hick or any other condescending word any of us can think of...But I wanted to strike a chord by what words can mean to different individuals.

I am a proud small town born and bred "hick" if you may. I came back after college to raise my family. So that isn't my meaning in any way shape or form. My dad worked for N&S Railroad as a proud union worker till he retired. I've worked since I was 13 years old, since my parents instilled in me the essence of hard work and what that means to build your character.

But, as I pointed out, I was also a "Frat Boy". One does not define the other. Both have meaning to me and what my upbringing means to my family and friends.

Your description of Manziel as an obvious bust describing him as a frat boy is degrading and I simply wanted to give you an example of why...

    ____________________________

Now, moving on as I consider us friends from the years of speaking on these boards....

Manziel is the epitome of "leader on the field". His coaches and teammates follow him no matter what situation they get into through the course of games. He doesn't go to the sidelines and berate teammates, he goes to the sidelines (and in the huddle) and gets them to keep their heads high and play until the last whistle blows.

What he has done off the field, and it really isn't very much in reality, should play little in your mind of whether he can be a successful QB in the NFL. Now, if he had failed drug tests or gotten into negligent legal issues, then THAT would be red flags all over the place...He hasn't done those things. He has had pictures taken and posted online of him at parties...I can tell you with an almost certainty, 90% of the kids in this upcoming draft have been to those same parties...They just aren't as intriguing as Manziel so no one ever thinks to take a pic and post it. Or if it does get posted, no one in the national media cares enough to make a spectacle of it.

That is my whole point of this bantering back and forth. Manziel has done very little on or off the field to question his leadership on the field. What has happened though has gotten so much play time because he was the Heisman Trophy winner that it seems like a epidemic. It simply isn't the case.

Now if you want to argue he is too short for your liking, then by all means your opinion should be held in high regard, but when that opinion is based on him being a "frat boy" then I am going to call you out...Never mentioning my opinion is higher or better than anyone else's just trying to explain why my feelings on the subject are what they are...

  16. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

BTW, I never said you were ignorant for being a hick either...

This is the only mention of ignorance:

Which was in reference to you wanting a WR instead of a QB, and wanting to take a project instead of someone that seems to be highly regarded going into the draft.

I think we can both agree, we will never win without a QB, right?

Why take another Brandon Weeden? We already have him on the team...what is taking a younger version going to do in terms of winning?

IF a QB with an outstanding skill set is available, don't you think it would be negligent to ignore him? When that is pretty obviously the one hurdle we need to knock over to get back to our winning ways?

Now, go through Manziel's skill set, or lack thereof if you feel that way, and we can debate him based on merit, not your reverence to his going to college parties which has no relevance on the field during a football game.

  17. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Bluez... absolutely! Yankey is a terrific pulling guard and should be a huge improvement over what we've currently got on the table. He's also experienced playing left tackle, so his pass-blocking footwork is there as well.

He's actually rated as the #1 guard by NFL Draft Scout, so there's a concern he may not make it until #26 overall.

    Irish we are good *DRINK*

SAS thanks for the input on Yankey ..sounds like he is what we need at guard .

Draft information this time of year, particularly when it comes to quarterbacks, must be taken with a massive dose of suspicion. After all, a year ago, some folks were talking about Geno Smith, Matt Barkley and even Ryan Nassib as being top-10 picks. (And you thought we forgot.)

But Russ Lande, writing for Sports On Earth, says that the Houston Texans right now are "leaning" toward taking one of two quarterbacks ? either Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel or Central Florida's Blake Bortles ? with the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

New head coach Bill O'Brien was enamored by Bortles, who beat O'Brien's Penn State Nittany Lions with a strong performance in September. And yet Texans owner Bob McNair reportedly favors Manziel and likely knows what a draw he'd be for the team. Per Lande, O'Brien is hesitant on Manziel, unsure if he "possesses the work ethic and intangibles necessary to be the face of a franchise."

No word on what the Texans think about Lousiville's Teddy Bridgewater, but if Lande's report is to be believed, it's a pretty clear sign the team is not as high as many mock drafters, who routinely populated him in the No. 1 spot this college football season, have been.

South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has the talent to be picked first overall, but he might not possess the work ethic either for O'Brien's liking, even if McNair ? a Gamecock for life, we might note ? has openly sung Clowney's praises already.

Still, why would the Texans let this information get out when trading the pick remains a completely viable option? Perhaps they'll end up keeping it, but a desperate team armed with picks such as the Cleveland Browns might be more likely to move up and give up a ransom to do so.

It's early. This information might be fascinating now and perhaps even valuable and accurate later, but we still have three months for everything to change.
