Haha... no, no. I actually meant the thought of taking a RB high in the draft this year (or ever again). Once bitten, twice shy and all that.

Although watching the BSC now reminds me that if Tre Mason were to declare it would be awfully hard to pass him up at #35 overall.

Did you see the ESPNNews coverage with All-22 coverage? Man it gives you a perspective that the age of closeups takes away. You could really see the cutting ability of Mason. Loved watching that, hope they use it more in the future, I may actually have a reason to watch ESPN again!

:D LOL? I am ok w/ not taking an RB in the first or overreaching for one in the 2nd round. I do think that they should use one of the 3rd round picks or maybe combine a 3rd and 4th to move up to get a quality back. I?ve got a feeling though that they may use up several picks to target their ?guy? at QB, just a gut feeling.

Work Ethic: A guy who is willing to go far above and beyond what the coaches ask of him to condition his body and mind to continually improve. Master the basics to the point that they become second nature. Then be able to understand and recognize the smaller nuances of the game.

Student of the game: I want a guy who believes that HE does not KNOW everything and is willing to constantly study the game to improve. Never stops learning. Understand everyone?s role on offense/defense so that he can use that to his advantage.

Humble confidence: No Diva?s Please. I want to see a guy who is confident in his abilities yet not come across as a cocky prick.

Natural Leader: A guy who can rally the troops and make things happen even when the chips are down.

Talent: Of course we need a guy who has the capabilities of playing the position. Make his reads, make the throws, and improvise wisely when the shtuff hits the fan

C'mon guys, more QB trait evaluations...

Lots of opinions on who not to take, but not many on who you would take if you could build one to suit.

I thought about letting you off easy here Lym, but what does that actually mean when it comes to picking "the guy"?

All of these QBs won in college, doesn't that make them all winners? Hell, Weeden won in college, so your theory has holes. I know you want to make it magically happen, so do I. I just want some intelligent input on your opinion to what will make that happen. What are the traits that make the man a winner in the NFL? More importantly, can we identify them in college recruits?

Okay, I'll expand my list (the assumption is that this person has the skill set to be drafted in the top four spots) . . .

    1. WIN !
    2. Be physically tough enough to take a hit by NFL defenders and get up off the ground for more.
    3. WIN !
    4. Be mentally tough enough to take hits from the fan base and local media.
    5. WIN !
    6. Be humble enough so as not to alienate the balance of his team mates.
    7. WIN !

We can take Josh McDaniel's name out of the coaching search.

Presumably, he was told by the F/O that they were doing "everything in their power" to draft Johnny Manziel to be the future of the franchise and that bringing in Tim Tebow "wasn't an option".

    Bummer.

I was kind of hoping the McDaniels rumor was going to come true and propel us to a 1-15 season, delivering us Jameis Winston in 2015.

  12. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

    1. WIN 29 - 24 @ Alabama (No. 1)

    2. Physically Tough 2012 - Missouri (SEC, aka NFL-lite); knocked out of the game early with a knee injury, returned in that game to break several SEC records and won 59-29

    3. WIN First Freshman in NCAA history to win the Heisman.

    4. Mentally Tough Despite a tumultuous offseason and most analysts predicting a "sophomore slump", Manziel returned to the field, improved as a passer, and finishes as one of the most successful dual-threat QBs in years.

    5. WIN 20 - 6 (.770) career as a starter

    6. Humility Beloved by his teammates and coaches for his work ethic and passion.

    7. WIN Johnny's Girlfriend: [IMG]

Sounds to me like we just found your QB, Lym.

haha, apparently someone doesn't read sarcasm SAS...(thumbs down)

  14. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Haha... you get what you give, I suppose.

Occasionally having to be the dissenting voice will put you in that position.

I'm actually really glad McDaniels didn't take the job. The last thing we need to do is continue trying to re-create Bill Belichick here in Cleveland.

  15. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Me too, question is, who is out there that will gain our trust from day one? Not sure any exist that are willing to coach..most already have day jobs.

  16. crextin Franchise Player Browns

Who in their right minds capable of gaining our trust would want to coach for this team. *CRAZY*

    1. Acutally lost to all four ranked opponents this season Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Mizzou. Despite solid numbers against Alabama and Auburn

    3. How many heisman winning QB's went on to win superbowls vs how many have has so-so careers or washed out of the league?

    6. Everything I've read about htis guy says he's anything but HUMBLE

    7. So what if his girilfreind is smokin hot everyine knwos that the QB always gets the hot chicks

  18. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

    1. You mean #2 in the country, 2 loss Auburn, that team...lost by 4 points
And the almighty #7 ranked Alabama squad that has had 4 losses in the last 3 years, one of which was to Johnny himself...lost by 7 points
And the #5 ranked Missouri Tigers by 7 points
Your one argument, LSU, was a blowout and BY FAR Manziel's worst game of his college career.

Oh, you forgot one...they beat #23 Duke in their Bowl

    2. I am assuming toughness matters little to you, or you don't argue this merit

    3. We have already discussed this, however, I think his point was that his legend has begun at a very early age, rather than his success depending on a trophy.

4-5 again, I am assuming you concede these points, just as I conceded your points to the past Heisman point

    6. What QB in the NFL is truly "humble"...Peyton Manning is a fun guy to watch on Saturday Night Live, but he demands the offense be run BY HIM or you can be caught on camera getting your arse chewed out by him...Tom Brady had a chip on his shoulder since day one and has never apologized for it...The only "humble figures" I have seen in recent memory is Drew Brees, Andrew Luck and Teddy Bridgewater...Oh and hundreds of others who are middle of the road to nothing when it comes to QB leadership...You want to argue the Heisman = bad NFL QB? I will make the same argument for humbleness being an attribute to Super Bowl success...Is Ben Roethlisberger humble? The meaning of humble in a QB sense is that they attribute success to those around him and Manziel's teammates and coaches LOVE him, so to me, that translates to "QB humbleness"

    7. Sorry, no one can have a negative argument to this point :-*

  19. crextin Franchise Player Browns

Just saying... Hot GF doesn't mean success at the next level. Just sumthin nice to look at ;)

  20. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Here's one of those points I never really understand. Isn't any player "one hit" away from retirement?

And how does Drew Brees (6'0", 209 pounds) play for 13 seasons? How has Russell Wilson (5'10", 203 pounds) survived two full seasons without an injury or missing time in a very good division?
