Sorry for your loss, Dogside, safe travels...

The value teams place on QB's and C's is vastly different. The best C in the draft isn't going to be as highly drafted as the best QB in the draft ever (well, the perceived best players at those positions). I hear you - you'd rather take the best player at another position, and gamble on the QB's later. But you can't have that cake and eat it, too - you rarely can in the draft. QB's, assuming teams like them, almost always go first. You've got examples on either end of the spectrum: last year, when QB's were picked sparsely, and the year before, when the top QB's were worth a king's ransom and drafted immediately. For better or worse, the latter is more often true.

I'm sorry for your loss, man. I hope the trip goes well, as do the proceedings. All the best.

BREAKING NEWS: "The Cleveland Browns will not draft Johnny Manziel" - @JayGlazer on air with @JTTheBrick
    Details

Jay Glazer is usually dead on. Hope for Lym.

Source? Because he's not usually "dead-on".

  5. beachbum M.V.P. Manager Steelers

I'll ask Jay Glazer to give up his source. Wait here I'm sure he'll give it to me.

p.s. Jay Glazer is in fact the best in the business. You can disagree if you like but if you were to poll his peers I guarantee you he would be voted the #1 guy at breaking news. I'm sure you'll poo poo this but this is from a GQ article in January:

If something crazy happens at this month's Super Bowl, chances are you'll learn about it from Jay Glazer, Fox NFL Sunday's in-house league reporter and the best-connected man in football. The Robbins fiasco, the resolution of the 2011 NFL lockout, Brett Favre's trade to the Jets, the secret videotape of the New England Patriots illegally spying on another team?Glazer got all of it first. He is the king of information at a time when there are way more media outlets trying to dig it up?and when NFL players, coaching staffs, and front offices have way less incentive to share it. And how he managed to find himself in this position involves a curious mix of old-school reporting chops and being?how do I put this??the world's most charming maniac.

We'll start with the journalist-y stuff first. Because of Glazer's three-source rule?he won't run a story with anything less?his reports are rarely, if ever, wrong. He claims he's never had to correct or retract a story in his career, which would make him an anomaly not just in NFL circles but in the entire profession of journalism. His network of NFL sources is so vast that he claims players and teams routinely consult with him about coaching hires and free-agent destinations.

"I'm an information broker," Glazer says. "People call me about players. Players call me about coaches: I'm a free agent?do I want to work with this guy or this guy? Every locker room talks."

Turns out that working hundred-hour weeks leaves head coaches with little time to learn about what the hell is going on with the other thirty-one teams in football, so Glazer is one of the very few guys they hit up when they need to explore the strange world outside their own film rooms. It also helps that Glazer keeps the same kind of insane working hours that coaches do, staying up all night on Saturdays working the phone to secure at least five scoops for his segments on Fox's NFL Sunday broadcast. (He says Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez enjoys prank-calling him in the dead of night. "You know how many times he's woken me up?" he says, laughing. "Fuck him.") Steal his phone and you'd have direct lines to just about everyone in the NFL, including commissioner Roger Goodell.

Normally I would agree with ya beach, but since I have a man crush this time I won't...

No, but seriously, this isn't a normal draft for Glazer and this isn't a normal situation for him to be getting a scoop on.

The reason, his illness this spring. He has been out of the scene up until about 2 weeks ago. He has said repeatedly, he can only make one maybe two phone calls, then he has to shut down for a rest. He can't hit the phones to backup his backup sources like we are used to...Then there's the fact he constantly says he doesn't "break news" on Twitter, he breaks news on Fox Sports...

And then there is the fact this regime took over right about the time he fell ill. When has he had time to gain the sources he needs from within this infant regime? Supposedly, Haslem and Farmer have shut down the leaks of the Banner era and no plausible information is coming out. How many people are privy to their plans and why on God's green earth would they want anyone to know a single name that is "crossed off the list"? If they didn't want him, wouldn't they be spreading that they do 2 days away?

Sorry, Glazer is normally reliable, but he is going to struggle to keep up with Schefter this year after his illness.

All of this just doesn't seem right, although I admittedly don't want it to, so that is a real possibility.

First and foremost, he has a WAY better chance of being right than he does wrong. So if he's right, it's not necessarily vindication - odds say he will be right.

Second, the 'testimonials' you gave? Not a single fact in there, anywhere. No one citing where he was right or wrong, just talking shit and blowing smoke up his ass. If I got on Twitter, would I be a source?
'Cause there wasn't one fact or citation in there, dude. There wasn't one example pointing to him saying, "Team A won't draft player X", and being right or wrong. So don't make it out like I'm trying to blast the guy, here. Fact is there were no facts - that's why someone would poo poo it.

I'm not trying to say the guy is awful. I'm not trying to say he's good. I'm just saying that I rarely, if ever, trust these "breaking news" sports reporters, ESPECIALLY this time of year. I'll use a lot of Irish's logic to justify it. I'll trust the shit out of him when he tells me four hours before a game that a player won't play, despite that player being listed as "questionable", or something of the like. At the end of the day, that's what 90% of Glazer's scoops and business are. And I'll trust all that. But when he tells me, on a whim, something entirely definitive about the number four team in the draft's plans, just a day before the draft itself? Treating it with anything but skepticism is naive.

Again, maybe he's right. Odds say he will be. But I don't take anything these guys say as gospel, especially right now. Maybe we should harken back to the "Miami will trade these guys" debacle that went down here not long ago? Who reported that one (I'm asking because I legitimately don't know, but the point stands regardless)?

    One thumb up ...

    Dline posts...

    Back to even...

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ... what a chump.

  12. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

Yeah, that was me. I think I've pressed "thumbs down" three times since being here. Maybe two. But I didn't think you deserved a high-five for quoting meaningless Twitter posts. Did you?

Is there a sunken boat somewhere in that photo ? *DONT_KNOW*

  14. beachbum M.V.P. Manager Steelers

LMAO you thumbed me down. What a loser.

  15. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

You wrote four lines about it. Took you a lot longer. Deducing that it was me probably took you forever. And I'm sure you didn't care - you wouldn't have written anything, if you did. (Tim, this is where we need a big eye roll smiley face, preferably sighing)

  16. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

Well, make it four. I did that one partly because you're an asshole, but mostly just for fun ;)

  17. beachbum M.V.P. Manager Steelers

Seriously dude it doesn't get more childish then thumbing down a post because you don't agree with it.

  18. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

Oh, okay. But thumbs-upping a post is just fine. Or do you call out everyone that does that, too?

  19. beachbum M.V.P. Manager Steelers

Here's another one for ya Lym...

Glazer's reputation is impeccable. Manziel won't be the pick at 4. Start dancing Lym...

  20. Looks like morons r still running this FO.....why doesnt Glazer actually get some real balls and say who the pic will b then? I hope Manziel falls and Cincy grabs him and he makes Farmer regret this decision everyday.
