OK, now that the Mack business is handled. Where do we go at QB when we lose out on Manziel to the Texans?

    *DONT_KNOW*

Has there been any indication that Houston wants to select Manziel?

Not to worry, Irish. IF the Texans take a QB at #1 . . . it will be Bortles and your man crush for Johnny Football at #4 can live on.

Oh yeah . . . and we'll both be swilling down 12 longnecks of Twisted Kilt (Salty Dog Brewery) on your nickel. *DRINK*

    It's been a little quiet once again...so..

I just want to prepare my fellow Browns Bretheren..

I forsee a trade that may occur before the draft ever arrives...

I can easily see the Browns giving the Texans an ultimatum trade offer:

    Monday, May 5th, 2014 11:15 a.m.
    Farmer dials the Texans front office;

Secretary; Hello Houston Texans of the National Football League..

Ray Farmer; Hello, this is Ray Farmer of the Cleveland Browns, could I speak with Rick Smith please?

Rick Smith; Ray, how is your first off season in charge treating you?

Ray; Great actually, I just got off the phone with Les over in St. Louis and we worked out a deal in principle for the #2 overall pick. I just wanted to give you a courtesy call since I knew you were also not overly impressed with taking someone #1 overall...Well I will give you the same offer, which you may or may not be able to improve upon from someone else in this draft. I am prepared to give you the #4 overall and our 2015 first round draft pick for #1 overall. This is the same deal I am offering Les, but I have to tell you, I am not going to wait around for May 8th to put ourselves in a bidding war for your pick. It is on the table until 5:00 p.m. then we consummate the deal with the Rams if you are not interested.

    Rick; silence

    Ray; Rick, you still there?

Rick; Yes, I am still here, but that really doesn't add up to what the #1 overall pick is worth. We need adequate compensation.

Ray; No problem, go ahead and make your pick at #1, then we will take our player at #2

Rick; Hold on, let me crunch my numbers before you do anything...

    Ray; Call me

Ray immediately makes calls to the Jags, Raiders, Falcons, Buccaneers and Vikings...

Smith calls Farmer back at 4:30 p.m.

Rick; You got to throw me a bone here Ray, The Vikings will match your offer and I believe looking over your rosters and situations that the Vikings pick in 2015 will be higher than your will. Throw in your 2014 2nd rounder and we have a deal.

Ray; I agree with you on your assessment Rick...However...Will your top two rated players be available at #8? Now, will one of those players be available at #4? Make the deal Rick, you know you want to...

    Rick; Silence

Ray: Tell me to call Les back Rick and that's what I'll do...

Rick; You have a deal, #1 is yours for #4 and your 2015 first rounder...

    May 8th, 8:00 P.M.

    Mr. Goodell;

With the #1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select:

Out of Texas A&M, QB, Johnny Manziel

  8. Irish, thats hilarious, but the only problem is Hous holds the cards and not any other team.

  9. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

What cards...According to everyone on the planet, the Texans won't take Manziel, so no one really needs to move up to them if they don't want to.

This is the only part of the draft that is a game...Trades come down to who flinches first and who believes the one that is making the offer as to the other offers on the table...

Now, if it goes the other way and the Browns trade to #2, it will be conjecture as to who the Browns will be taking at #2 and the Texans may or may not get multiple offers for multiple players at the #1 overall, since they won't know who they are taking.

The Browns would still have a pretty good chance of coming out on top in this situation as, in my personal opinion the Jaguars are the only ones we are highly in contention with for Manziel.

The biggest problem, again imho, is that if the Browns make that move to #2, the Texans also could easily take Manziel #1 overall, then the Browns will get their #2 choice...Either way, I think a 2015 first round pick is well worth the move up to get either their first or second choice at QB. I don't think they want to settle for #3 choice and I believe there will be 2 QBs taken in the first 3 picks...more likely 3.

  10. By holding the cards I mean if they dont like the deal, they sit tight and make their choice or wait for another offer....they have needs so they will take the best offer or just fill a need w #1....IMO I dont think they would even come close to accepting that offer....Wash gave up much more for #2

I would imagine that, especially at the top of the draft, player agents are willing to talk at least vaguely about who might be interested in their player. The team picking first has, in recent drafts, already begun negotiating prior to the draft. I can't imagine that teams at #2 and #3 don't express similar interest. But you're right, Irish - you make sure you get your #1 QB. Question is, is that QB worth next year's first round pick? Is this the QB group you want to sell out for? You do it only if you feel that that guy is your franchise player.

  12. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Yes, but in 2012, there were only 2 clear cut prospects in that draft. And there were two franchises willing to play ball with the #2 pick overall.

I might also note, that most people agree that payment for #2 overall was way over paid.

It will boil down to how many franchises want to trade multiple picks to move up. My instincts are that the motivation will not be as high as it was in 2012.

In 2012, there were two clear cut high profile QBs, with little behind them (Tannehill #3(pick 8) and Weeden #4(pick 22) and Osweiler #5(pick 58).

Honestly, I don't recall anyone mentioning Weeden as a potential 1st round pick...

In 2013-14 at different points, there are 4 QBs mentioned as possible #1 overall picks and 4 others that have at one point or another had 1st round grades...

#1 overall mentions at some point; Bridgewater, Bortles, Manziel and Carr.

1st round grades at some point; Mettenburg, McCarron, Garoppolo and most recently Savage.

It doesn't matter what we grade these QBs, it will be up to the GMs and all of these have had first round mentioned in the same breath at some point.

...The other issue is there are other players that do not take the snap also mentioned as possible #1 overall picks...

This waters down the #1 pick from what it was valued at in 2012. In 2012 there was one player that was clear cut going #1 overall. This essentially making the #2, the #1 worthy trade pick.

2012 also didn't have the depth of 2014, so giving up multiple picks also is going to be debated.

Too many factors in this draft make the top picks less valuable, simply because staying where teams are will still land them highly touted prospects.

In my opinion dline, there are two worthy...Manziel and Bridgewater. I realize quite succinctly I am in the minority, but in the end, that is my opinion.

Giving up a future first rounder, which would be good value moving from #4 to #2, would be well worth it to take someone I personally don't feel we could get value wise at #4.

I truly believe, Manziel and Bridgewater will be taken in the top 3 picks...I don't care what anyone else says. That is my belief.

  14. Irish I can see u have faith in TB, but he is not gonna go top 3....Manziel is by far the best QB prospect in this draft....he has put up unreal stats in the SEC and dominated Bama twice which no other QB can put on their resume.

mama always said if you cant say anything nice then don't say anything at all ..but

Manziel = :! to me *ROSE*

  16. Ur old school bluez....of course he doesnt get ur attention in a positive way, but he is an elite talent.

Irish . . . I hereby declare that you have officially lost your phuquing mind.

I can not and will not argue the point that Johnny Manziel is an elite athlete - he is. However, IMHO, his athletic style of play is EXACTLY why he will eventually fail in the NFL.

A leopard can't change his spots. When the NFL level pressure starts to get to him, he will revert to running around like a fart in a frying pan and he will get seriously injured. At that point in time, you have an elite athlete does absolutely nothing for you.

I hope I'm wrong because I don't care to see anyone injured. But it's coming as sure as death and taxes.

yes I am old school . and it still works . gimme a smash mouth physical football team that will pound the hell out of the opponent leaving welts and there egos bruised as well from the beat down they recieved .

Manziel has to many question marks for me . to unorthodox and small for starters . plus I hate his attitude . I just want to dunk his bony ass in the toilet .

I will bet that the Browns do not take a QB at # 4 or with there first pick which I hope is at #4 unless they trade down a little . if they go UP then IMHO Farmer is STUPID!

however it turns out just p[ick the right guys no matter the position and turn this %&%$# mess around .

if they do take the Johnny Fluke I will have no choice but to get onboard however much it will pain me . if they do and he goes BUST which I think he will . you will never hear the end of it from me . let some other team pick the little scab .

He is very polarizing I will give him that .

just get this draft over already . &*^% league pushing it back *ROSE*

  20. bluez M.V.P. Browns Indians

his unorthodox style will get him killed in the NFL . I don't think he can stay in the pocket and make his reads .

    is he coachable ?

to many question marks for him . ..also who the FUK named this little turd Johnny football ????? *STOP*
