Oh, absolutely. For the record, I think Blake Bortles is a fringe second-round prospect. I think everyone makes way too big a deal over size. It's a nice thing to have, but I can quickly over-look it for other traits.

Manziel is my #1 QB and Bridgewater is my #2 QB. The only other first-round QB in this class, IMO, is Zach Mettenberger and who knows what his injury is going to mean for his draft stock.

And as I've said, it sounds like Manziel is going to be a Texan for a while longer, so if the Browns make a move to get Bridgewater, I'm absolutely on board.

And yes... 6'3" and 214 is more reassuring than 6'3" and 190.

So, it seems Teddy B's big day was very average...I didn't see it personally, just what I saw on Twitter about it above...

Sounds like he didn't WOW anyone by any means.

As much as this team NEEDS a franchise signal caller. More and more I'm leaning toward waiting till the second or thrd round to try and get one.

  4. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

I still want Teddy if available at #4...Film tells me everything I need to know.

  5. Crex, thats why this team has been a mess for almost 15 yrs....u dont take a scrap QB and hope he is good....u take Manziel and know ur getting a PLAYMAKER at the biggest position for any NFL franchise

  6. crextin Franchise Player Browns

If he's there and Farmer, Pettine, and Shanahan are sold that he IS "the" guy then I'm all for it. The thing is I'm not sure he's going to be there at #4 Irish, and I don't want to the Browns to overspend and move up to get a QB. Personally I'm with Lym and still prefer Bortles long term.

    • There are plenty of other potential franchise QB's in this draft as well. In fact I like Garapollo in the second, and Mettenberger in the third, these are a couple of later round guys that just may be future stars[/*]
    • I only want Manziel if he comes in know he will be sitting on the SIDELINES holding a clipboard for 2-3 years. HE is not NFL ready... YET.[/*]

  7. Watch his 2 games vs Bama and then think again if hes NFL ready.....he made plays vs Saban and that def that hasnt happened in yrs.....Bortles played vs nobody and just imagine for a second if Manziel played vs UCF's schedule and vice versa

  8. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

Mettenberger is going to be AWFUL. I don't see NFL success in his game at all. I've never been a Bridgewater fan - he's a smart enough kid, but he's going to have a physical adjustment to the NFL, rather than a mental one. At the end of the day, you've got to trust that if the guys in charge like a player, he's the right guy. They're the ones feeding him their offense and their methods.

Stopper you need to go back and re-read through this thread. I've already layed out what my opinion of him is and what my concerns are. HE is not NFL ready... yet.

Crazy Crex?s Mid Free Agency mock draft Musings *WRITE* *DRINK* *WRITE* *HIGH* *WRITE* ?

Feel free to pick it apart and comment if you so desire. I am open to civil discussion and constructive criticism.

Round 1 Pick 4: Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida /Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville ? The most glaring need on the Browns roster is a Franchise QB. For me Bortles gets the edge as I feel he has a higher celling once he acclimates to the game. I?m not for reaching to get that ?guy? in this draft. I feel that one will fall to the Browns.

Alternate pick Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson

Round 1 Pick 26: Xavier Su'a-Filo, OG, UCLA ? Guard is the biggest hole on the O-line and this guy has been moving up draft boards. A quick and agile guard that can pave the road (so to speak) that will fit into Shanahan?s zone blocking scheme. Problem is he may not even be available here.

Alternate picks possible - Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State - C.J. Mosley, ILB, Alabama - Johnny Manziel, QB A&M.

Round 2 Pick 3: Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State ? Big bodied WR that will need some polish but could be a fantastic #2 across from Gordon.

Alternate Picks possible - David Yankey, OG, Stanford - Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois

Round 3 Pick 7: Marcus Martin, C, Southern California ? Projected as a second rounder this would be great value pick if he fell to this spot. Heir apparent to Alex Mack? Could play OG as well until then.

Alternate picks possible - Brandon Thomas, OG, Clemson - Ed Reynolds, FS, Stanford ? Donte Moncrief, WR, OLE MISS.

Round 3 Pick 19: Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska ? We all know that Trufant is not the answer to the #2 CB position.

Alternate picks possible - Martavis Bryant, WR, Clemson - Charles Sims, RB, West Virginia - Yawin Smallwood, ILB, Connecticut

Round 4 Pick 6: Lache Seastrunk, RB, Baylor- RB depth and WR depth will make the middle rounds of this draft interesting. Even with Ben Tate signed I still think they will draft an RB somewhere in the 3rd or 4th rounds.

Alternate picks possible -Rashaad Reynolds, CB, Oregon State ? Christian Jones, ILB, Florida State

Round 4 Pick 27: Kenny Ladler, FS, Vanderbilt / Dion Bailey, FS, Southern California

Alternate picks possible -Jared Abbrederis, WR, Wisconsin

Round 5 Pick 5: Jay Prosch, FB, Auburn ? Unless Farmer signs a FA FB this is the pick here.

Round 6 Pick 4: Avery Williamson, ILB, Kentucky

Round 7 Pick 3: Matt Patchan, OT, Boston College

Haters that are gonna hate will simply be ignored. :-/

The Houston Chronicle reports Teddy Bridgewater was "less accurate than expected" during Monday's Louisville Pro Day, as "several" of his passes were "clearly off target" and his ball "often fluttered."

The workout was held indoors. Bridgewater (6'2/208) also weighed in six pounds lighter than his Combine measurement and proceeded to make numerous underthrows and overthrows. Per the Chronicle, "more than ten" of Bridgewater's 65 Pro Day throws were "either misses or drops." Conceded Bridgewater afterwards, "it was nowhere near where I wanted it to be." Added NFL Network's Kurt Warner, "I think he missed a few more throws than you expect at a Pro Day." Bridgewater ran a 4.78 forty-yard dash. He threw without gloves after donning them throughout his high school and college careers. Bridgewater's draft stock has seemingly been falling since the end of the college season.

besides his weak frame lack, of arm strength I say no thank you . reminds me of former Buckeye QB Troy Smith .

  13. Crex, if Manziel is there at #26...I have ur next house payment for the month of June....if he goes top 15 u have mine?

  15. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

OK, so help me understand...The Quintessential QB Pro Day..

Teddy Bridgewater who was the consensus best QB in this draft goes 57 of 63 with 2 drops or 93.4%, with shaky accuracy while throwing on the run, which is something he rarely did in college and will most likely not be part of his game in the pros since he is a classic pocket passer.

Blake Bortles completed 41 of 50 passes with 2 drops or 85.4% with most of those passes missed being inaccurate deep, also something that was already known from his game film just like Bridgewater...

It is being surmised by the "draft experts" that Teddy Bridgewater may have dropped out of the first round, BECAUSE of his workout....

It is being said this morning Bortles may have become the #1 overall pick because the Texans talked to him before and after his workout...

I just don't understand how everyone listens to these reporters, because that is what most of them are, reporters in charge of getting readers to talk about what they report. Not give accurate educated opinions on the prospects.

The scouts and GMs and coaches will do what they do...They will watch every second of game film on these guys and have their opinions formed before the combine ever takes place. They will use measurables to add or subtract from that opinion slightly, and by slightly I mean moving player A and B that were tied prior to the combine and/or pro days and move them one spot or another. THEN, they will bring in 30 players that are viable candidates and assess them during a real interview to possibly rearrange their board ever so slightly, unless a guy just totally blows the interview completely. The draft boards have been set for over a month...these small workouts mean very little, it certainly doesn't move a guy from a team's draft board from somewhere in the 1-7 range all the way down to a 2nd or 3rd round prospect, like some of these draft pundits are doing.

I have said it before and I will say it again, if Teddy Bridgewater is available at #4, he has got to be the pick for the Browns or we will regret it for the next 10 years while we are not high enough to get a viable starter at the position. If we end in mediocrity at the position, we had better HIT on every draft pick in rounds 1-3 as pro bowl caliber...

OK, so here is what I THE AMATEUR SCOUT see from Bridgewater's pro day...

Great touch on the short to intermediate passes (around 30 yards). I saw one ball off the mark while on the move, which was one of only a few passes on the move. Then as his workout went over the 50 throw mark, he was VERY inaccurate on 2 throws over 40 yards and underthrew another around the same distance.

What I see though is good footwork and a lightning release. Two things you look for in top ten QBs...A throw over 40 yards in the NFL is going to be more about the receiver anyway unless he is all alone, and how many games see a QB throw 63 passes in a game? Hopefully he will NEVER do that in his career.

    Here watch it yourselves.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53UMp-cKzEU

Next Bortles...I will get him at work hopefully...can't find the video right now.

You're saying the Browns should take a QB at #4? *OK*

Bortles video isn't up yet, so I went to McCarron's.

The thing that sticks out to me negatively is his lazy release. He will have to speed that up if he wants to succeed and some guys simply can't do it...

He had nice footwork in his workout, but missed terribly on two short to intermediate throws and threw to the back shoulder too often on timing patterns which made the receiver break stride.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH2k1LU1tyA

Not as big a fan of these later round project QBs, but he does have something to work with. I think he will end up having a 12 year backup career.

  20. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

A couple changes... save the most important one.

Houston | 1-1: Jadeveon Clowney, DE South Carolina

The most intriguing physical prospect to come out in decades is too much to pass up here at #1 overall. The Texans have a solid squad and are a year removed from the playoffs. Better play out of their newly signed veteran QB will keep their selection at the top of R2 on the bench for at least a season to develop.

St. Louis | 1-2: Greg Robinson, OT Auburn

Personally, I rate Matthews as the better prospect, but so many teams these days overlook the tacticians in favor of huge, quick, super-athletic specimens. Both should be quality starters in the NFL for years to come, however.

Jacksonville | 1-3: Blake Bortles, QB Central Florida

A media darling and meteoric riser like JaMarcus Russell -- talkings heads fell in love with the size and attributes and overlooked the fact that he simply is not ready to be QB at the professional level. Jacksonville has proved completely inept at taking QB prospects and this is another one that adds to the long, distinguished list.

1-4: Johnny Manziel, QB Texas A&M

Why? Because Manziel is the single-most electrifying playmaker in this year's draft. Manziel has the potential to become an elite QB in the League and his complete re-focus on football after his college career is commendable. A professional, who despite initial character concerns is praised for his hard work, dedication and love of the game. Additionally, the adaptive Kyle Shannahan can tailor a playbook better than most to suit Manziel's unique and game-changing skill sets.

    No change.

1-26: Jason Verrett, CB Texas Christian

New HC Mike Pettine believes the two most important positions on the field are quarterback and cornerback. It only makes sense to address both glaring needs with the earliest picks on Draft Day. Farmer also comes from situations where the value of good cornerbacks is understood.

Verrett isn't a name most people on the boards have been talking about, but he should definitely be considered here. If he stays healthy (has had some shoulder concerns) he would be an ideal compliment to Joe Haden. Exceptionally fast and fluid, if not ideally sized, he can play man coverage well, which the new defensive scheme will ask plenty of.

    Previously: David Yankey, OG Stanford

2-35: Allen Robinson, WR Penn State

The addition of Andrew Hawkins does not preclude a wide receiver at this spot like the addition of Ben Tate would to a running back. A less than stellar Combine should not erase two years of quality game tape, although it does potentially drop his stock -- to the elation of the Browns. Robinson was extremely productive in a trying environment (which should help his transition here). He's also a big-bodied playmaker to pair with the under-sized Hawkins and Travis Benjamin already on the roster here.

    Previously: Jarvis Landry, WR LSU

3-71: Christian Jones, ILB Florida State

Karlos Dansby is, on paper, an upgrade from D'Qwell Jackson. However, he is not a long-term solution starting the season at 32 years old and turning 33 by mid-season. He will need a younger player to start next to him inside and learn the position. Jones is a phenomenal athlete and defensive stud on college's best football team. He should be able to dominate early.

    Previously: Jeremy Hill, RB LSU

    3-83: Dakota Dozier, OG Furman

The FCS pick fills a major need along the offensive line. The play against inferior competition can be overlooked due to his excellent athleticism and strength. If need be, Pinkston and Greco can start while Dozier learns the NFL game and speed, but I don't see why he couldn't contribute immediately along the line.

Previously: Victor Hampton, CB South Carolina
