I'm curious, B&G . . . If it's not players, coaches or ownership, then it has to be front office. Is that what you believe?
Expanding on this, I would be interested in hearing how this fanbase would fix the Browns (other than hitting the flush lever).
No doubt that either Wentz or Watson would have solidified the QB position . . . but then you would have to remove the players from the roster that were added as a result of those two trade downs.
Personally, I would stop pulling the flush lever!! At some point, this ownership group has to trust themselves that they have hired the right people to turn the team around and give that group a legitimate amount of time to accomplish it. 2 years is not enough. Until they start giving these guys 5+ years to install their systems and fill the roster with players that fit that system, they will be in a continual cycle of chaotic failure...in my opinion. Now, to be clear, I'm not saying the current regime is the right regime to keep for that 5+ years. I haven't paid close enough attention to the Browns front office and coaching staff to have an opinion on that. However, logic would dictate that if ownership thought the current coaching staff and front office deserved a chance, they need to give them a legitimate chance.
Its the uniforms..........the city.........the team itself, that can't be changed. Simply put, when players put on a Browns uniform, their ability and potential to play well declines, their propensity for injury seems to increase. Negative forces go to work. And that is something that can't be changed or improved upon. Call it supernatural, whatever. Its NOT about the organization, draft, philosophy, coaching, etc. I see the same type of thing happening to Dallas, only on a much smaller scale. No organization does so little with so much. I just don't understand why players don't boycott the Cowboys and refuse to play until they are cut/released. The thought of taking money from that organization to play football baffles me, I don't care how much they stand to make. How can anyone consciously CHOOSE to play for them? Sit on the bench a year or two out of protest and don't get paid.........eventually they WILL cut or trade your rights. At least Browns players are always playing to just make it to free agency healthy and find a team they like.
The Browns just don't know how to win. They need to get rid of every coach, player and owner and start completely from scratch. Maybe even move the team to Columbus to get that bad JUJU off of them.
Honestly I think its what Mano said: consistency. They've blown their team up every 2 years. If they believe in their coaching staff, give them the time to turn it around. The handful of good players they have are hindered because they have to learn a new system every other year. If they believe Kizer is their QB, give him another year to develop.
I'm of the same thinking. You go out and say Kizer is your guy and then you dont even give him a year to develop? There are constant jokes about the number of QBS they have gone through but its often ignored that since 1999 they have gone through 9 coaches (that includes 1 who was just an finish the season coach). 18 years 9 coaches that is an average of 2 years per coach which is not a good look no organization is going to succeed in that manner.
I get that it must be hard to be patient in Cleveland. The fans, more often than not, start calling for heads to roll with the first bad year. Once fans start screaming, its hard for the front office and ownership to stand pat and stay the course because its the fans that buy tickets and merchandise. Hiring a new coach breeds excitement and gets fans to show up for games with hopes of a fast turnaround. The Browns need to decide if they are willing to forego the short term profits that the constant turnover produces for the long term success of a winning franchise. As a business person, it would be very difficult for an owner to see revenue decrease for 2, 3 or 4 years while they stick with a plan and continue to fail. Unfortunately, that may be exactly what is needed to make the Browns a winning franchise. How current ownership handles a second consecutive double digit loss season will be very interesting. Clean house and I think it signals a continuation of the recent cycles. Stay the course and keep Hue Jackson and the front office intact and I think you are seeing a shift in philosophy to a team that cares more about winning in the long term than profits in the short term.
Guys you all keep trying to explain everything from a logical/reasoned standpoint. You can't do that for this organization. The New England Patriots entire roster and coaching staff could swap with the Browns.............and overnight Tom Brady would turn into Brock Osweiler, the team would go 5-11.....with the same exact players/coaches and schedule. When you've been as bad as the Browns have been, as fans you have to simply ACCEPT that 6-10 is the norm and often the best you can hope for.........occasionally upsetting a decent team during the year. That is all you can hope for, not division titles, playoff wins, or championships. When you're that bad for that long, players don't want to sign or be traded there, and coaches don't want to go either, no matter how much they're paid because they know they only have 2-3 years max. The Browns are NEVER going to be good again.........it doesn't matter who they sign, who they draft, who coaches them, or their ownership.
Probably from the 40s till their first Super Bowl. Kizer might not be the answer at QB but he has shown enough that he deserves the chance for the organization to find out. The defense has been lacking this year, more so than the offense IMO. One more good offseason and this team is competitive. They need to finish strong and scrape a couple wins for confidence.
Sorry but If Brady and CO go there the Browns would be a powerhouse to think they would suck just because they don the uniforms is beyond stupid.
Let me know when the Browns draft Joe Greene reincarnated to help turn the franchise around and build a powerhouse team for the 2020's.
I'm with this all the way but I think B&G may have a point so the Browns might wanna sacrifice some live chickens and sprinkle the blood around. Gotta cover all the bases, just to be sure.
It's the culture! How many players are excitedl about being drafted by the Brown with exception to a one Joe Thomas? Kizer is not the answer! I believe in Hue Jackson so keep him around. Simply put, stop firing coaches and give them the opportunity to have time to turn in around with the players and front office management. Unless Belicheck wants to coach the Browns again, please give Jackson his dues! I think the Browns could clean up the current reality about the organization if they stay true to their word. They will be good in 2 years if they just stick with a PLAN! JMac
Or.......Browns fans, players, coaches, management, and ownership could change their expectations so that 6-10 is the norm, and seen as an average, but acceptable season.
