and it doesn't seem as if the pundits, local or national are on to this at all ... he's getting away with impersonating an NFL QB right under their/our noses... and it's going to cost us sooner if not later.
It's funny I was thinking the other day that maybe my analysis is really off because you rarely see anyone call Ben out for his poor play. Even the bloggers like Steelersdepot who poor over film have taken a pretty hands off approach to Ben. Surely they're seeing what I'm seeing - Ben locking into his first read. Is it loyalty?
beach; It's funny I was thinking the other day that maybe my analysis is really off because you rarely see anyone call Ben out for his poor play. Even the bloggers like Steelersdepot who poor over film have taken a pretty hands off approach to Ben. Surely they're seeing what I'm seeing - Ben locking into his first read. Is it loyalty? Your analysis is not off. Both my boys are and have been on to him for weeks, and they have the same reservations as you. I didn't really catch wind of it until I noticed his erratic throwing motion, and your last set of pics (only one pic of 2-1/2 qtrs you looked at) are damning and are not wrong. He has multiple options and constantly seeks his easiest and best target in AB, even in triple coverage. Was it you? i think that said the other receivers must be totally frustrated (maybe demo) ... whomever said it is, I suspect, spot on... Ben is a shadow of his former receiver seeking self and if Haley really thinks Ben's problems are more in relation to insufficient receiver comfort because he's working with different guys is at best only a symptom of his erratic, seemingly lazy quarterbacking that again, i say, will cost us dearly in a close game sooner rather than later. http://www.steelersdepot.com/2017/11/haley-roethlisbergers-first-half-hes-working-different-guys/ You honestly could not have convinced me he would be our biggest problem coming in to this season, but he is and unless he sees it, it won't be corrected. The second half of our season will be all pins and needles when, at least to some extent, it could have been closer to easy street if only a better surveying of the field would take place.
If anything us Steelers fans should know it don't come easy. There is always something that slows our beloved team down. They can't just come out and kick ass like the paper says they should. Why do you think all Steeler households come equipped with a defibrillator ?
I would be awfully curious to see an analysis like these ones on one of the elite QBs. I mean, we all know that Ben is not in the same category as Brady or Rodgers when it comes to the intellectual side to the game, but I would be very interested to see how many times Tom Brady makes the wrong read or throws to a covered receiver with an open one somewhere else, or how many times he stares down his primary target. Maybe that would give us some insight into why the coaches aren't as concerned about this as we are. Is Ben maybe not that far removed from the other elite QBs in the league? Is this something that we are overreacting to?
Could some of his woes be related to no longer having Heath Miller as a safety Valve? Looking at just the time with Haley as the OC With Miller 65.7% completion 5.1 TD% 2.2 Interception rate 288 yards per game average Without Miller 63.3% 5% 2.8% 267 yards a game. Yes its not a big change but it is more of a change than most people would think. Some will point out that the change in completion percentage is only 1 or 2 catches a game and that is true but what is the context of those 1 or 2 catches a game. If its to Miller snagging a first down and extending a drive how big is that 1 or 2 extra catches a game?
Piggy backing your Miller idea. Once Heath left, it left Ben as the senior guy on the offense. None of his peers to keep him in check. No Hines Ward, Heath Miller or Jerome Bettis' anymore who have the power to hold him responsible for his part in the offense. Just an idea, since he is an immature ass of a human being outside of football. IMHO
The only time I can remember Brady staring down a target and hitting it was when the Steelers were trying that "Cover ZERO" scheme against New England. Gronkowski. But that was ZERO coverage, not triple coverage.
If Benny boy retires after this season, any chance our beloved Super Steelers go after Kirk Cousins? Please advise
He will be coveted by many teams in this league. I believe the Steelers will go the draft route for a new QB. We will trade up.
But what if he does a “Joe Haden” and wants to come to Pittsburgh for less than what other teams offer?
I'd like to see that or maybe Alex Smith. This team is built to win now. IMO getting a veteran to start for a few years makes sense. At this point, the way Ben is playing, Smith would have more success with this team.
IMO the next “franchise” QB is not on this year’s roster nor is one of the current backups capable of winning a SB.
