This started as a beer thread, and I missed it, so let me just chime in quickly on the key points:

I want a cold beer. And yeah, living in Florida, I usually want it pretty damn cold. There are exceptions, and it does change from beer to beer, but I don't want a warm Sam Adams after several hours outside, in whatever pursuit.

I'll stretch the "10 minute" allotment a little bit: I'll take 15 minutes to finish one, maybe even more - I haven't really counted or paid attention to it, but I'm sure I have. Beer is so fucking expensive out and about that I try to stretch it a bit, or "savor" it a little more. But I only drink decent beer, so I like to really relax and enjoy it. Depends on just how much it was needed.

The smaller glasses: I don't know how small you guys are talking, but they have these things called "shorties" at a local place. They're probably half of your normal-sized glass. I'll have one of those filled with the darker or stronger stuff when I'm there - partially because they charge a shit-load for it, and partially because it's strong enough that I usually enjoy that half-glass just fine. It's a treat, a taste, and doesn't get me too out of it on a date. That smaller glass is always accompanied by at least two glasses of another great beer - they carry a bunch of 'em.

Also, importantly - fuck beer slushies. I live in Florida - if anyone would want them, it would be me. But we've got every alcoholic slushie known to man. I don't need someone fucking up beer. Frozen drinks with beer in them is already pretty popular down here, so I guess we've already seen it, but I don't want more of it. I'm confused, though - does it make the whole beer a slushie, or just the head? I figured the former, 'cause I don't know how you'd go about drinking the latter...

There is a dive bar somewhere near Miami that I went to one time I was down there and the whole back of the bar is lined up with slushie machines like a 7-11 on steroids but all the machines are filled with booze. I don't know if it's the only bar that has that but it's the only one I have ever seen.

It was actually not bad. Until some a-hole decided it would be funny to put his mouth right under the tap to see how much booze slushie he could chug before getting thrown out of the place. And yeah, that was me. And the answer was about 45 seconds worth.


As to the thread origins, it's a beer slushie for the head of the beer only. But that wasn't my issue. It's the whole keeping your beer cold for 30 extra minutes. Because if you need your beer kept cold for that long.......you ain't drinking.

 

It sounds like Fat Tuesdays, off the top of my head, but we have a couple places down here that are doing that, now. It's good and does the job pretty quickly. I like it. But what I don't need is beer belonging more and more to the people that don't desire to drink it. Which, by your latter-most point ("it's a beer slushie for the head of the beer only"), seems to be avoided, here, which is relieving.

I don't know how I'd go about drinking a beer with a slushie on top. Seems like it wouldn't work out so well...
