Yeah, was there most of the time for my studies but I did spend a month in Melbourne during the Australian Open. Backpacked around much of the rest of the east coast when I had time but didn't get to the outback or anything west of that.

In terms of weather I found it to be like the Chicago of Australia. I was there during January, which is summer. I was staying in a hostel in South Bank right near the casino and one day Maria Sharapova was making a public appearance right outside the casino. Stood for about 3 hours in 40 degree Celsius heat, one of the hottest days I've ever experienced, waiting for that bitch to come out and let us meet her and buy her gay candy. After nearly passing out due to heat exhaustion and dehydration, a couple people who waited in line did pass out, that same night the temp plummets to about 16-17 C and I have to wear a jacket outside.

Didn't try that one. I did unfortunately though have more than enough XXXX gold, which is basically the Coors Light of Aussie beers, although better because every single brew in Australia, even the crappy ones are better than the mainstream brews of the USA.

    Maria Shaparova sells candy?

That sounds like a brutal wait in some serious heat blang. That's pretty typical of Ontario too. We'll get daytime temps in July and August of 35-40C and then by midnight it's dropped to 12 or lower. The morning temps here have been consistently around 7C ... but it's warmer during the daytime thank God.

Heat is tolerable. High humidity and heat sucks. I'll take 90 degrees with no humidity over 85 and 87% humidity. It was 67 when I walked out the door 2 hours ago for work/class with 89% humidity. Fucking unreal.

So Baby, what is there to do for fun in Ontario/Toronto? My girlfriend wants to make a trip, I suggested someplace else. I suggested in hockey season if I was dragged out there.....

What do Cubans who like Mexico living in Canada do for fun? Besides the whole free healthcare thing? Do you guys do like.....normal stuff?

Edit* I'm not into curling. Unless there's a lot of booze involved......

She calls it Sugarpova, yeah I'm ashamed to admit I spent $5 AUD on a bag of Sugarpova just to get a chance to meet her and plea for a photo, which she politely declined, as those of us waiting in line were basically like an assembly line. Gave that candy to this chick I was hanging out with and after that day decided I was no longer a Maria Sharapova fan, no matter how gorgeous she looked that day and how short her hemline was.

  5. HAHAAHA.... we are a Peppa Pig household too. Mainly my son (4.5), but my daughter will stand and watch it some too (1.5).

    WTF is a peppa pig?

Whatever happened to real cartoons where the characters are sexist and racially insensitive and commit acts of violence on each other repeatedly?

Looney Tunes, Hanna Barbera, Tom and Jerry.

Those were real cartoons. Todays stuff sucks.

Ontario has very high humidity. We are a humid province :) When we take our motorcycles down through the States I am absolutely pleasantly surprised each time at how little humidity there is in so many of the States. I love ... absolutely love the heat and the more the better but when it comes with a low humidity index it's even better. You are a lucky bunch of people, lemme tell ya.

There is tons to do in Toronto/Ontario. Ontario is a massive province, 415,598 sq miles to be precise. A bunch of that; 61,257 sq mi or 14.7% is water.

    Things to do in Toronto:
    Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)

    Hockey Hall of Fame
    [IMG]

    CN Tower
    Rogers Centre
    Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO)
    Ontario Science Centre
Distillery District (This is a must see/drink)
    Toronto Zoo
Yorkville (bring a really big wallet for this tour)

Toronto Islands ... Incredible and a must see!

Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts
Ed Mirvish Theatre ... lots of history here. Really cool place to see a show or a band play.
Chinatown ... self explanatory. Little Italy is also a really cool place to walk around in and enjoy the music, people and food.
Nathan Phillips Square ... big deal ... it's an outdoor venue where they have big live shows. Very cool.
TIFF Toronto International Film Festival ... streets are crawling with movie trucks and celebrities.
Black Creek Pioneer Village. I loved this place .. it's an amazing presentation of pioneer life in Canada ...
Massey Hall. Huge history behind this place too. Awesome place to see a show or a play.
Exhibition Place ... tons of rides and lots of interesting buildings filled with food and art etc ...
Kensington Market ... The most amazing market in the world ... filled with foods and people and art and music and bars. Awesome place!
Horseshoe Tavern. Lots of history here ... best place for music and it's kind of a glorified dump. The Stones played here and tons of other bands.
Ontario Place and the Toronto waterfront ... beautiful place full of greenery and interesting things to look at. The view is amazing too. You can catch some great music here and hit some awesome bars.
Molson Canadian Ampitheatre. You can see this place and catch hockey games or big bands or just about anything.

So that's just off the top of my head. That's Toronto.

    Outside of Toronto?

    Southwestern Ontario offers you:

African Lion Safari in Cambridge Ontario ... self explanatory .. has lots of animals and it's clean and fun.

Art Gallery of Hamilton - Hamilton Ontario

Bruce Peninsula National Park- rent a canoe or kayak and see some of the greenest flora and clearest water you've ever seen. [IMG]

Canadian Heritage Warplane Museum - Mount Hope Ontario

Point Pelee National Park - Point Pelee Ontario. Amazing place to see birds.

St. Jacobs Country - St. Jacobs, Ontario. It's a huge market place with wares being sold by Mennonites. Breads, cheeses, cakes, pies, cookies, syrup, honey and everything else! Very cool place with lots of buggies and people in traditional clothing and horses.

Stratford Festival - Stratford Ontario. Come and watch a play by the Bard ... all year round renowned actors take to the stage.

Wasaga Beach - Wasaga Ontario (not from from where I live) longest stretch of fresh water beach in North American. It's clean and it's beautiful. Lots of great bars right on the boardwalk. Oh and in Ontario women are allowed to go topless. Just thought I'd throw that in ...

So there are some ideas for your trip Pat and not one curling rink included! :)

  10. LOL. Peppa Pig is a british cartoon aimed at Preschoolers of a family of pigs - Mommy Pig, Daddy Pig, Peppa, and George. They are friends with Mr. Zebra, Mrs. Rabbit, Madam Gazelle, etc. It follows the family, the playgroup and the Grandparents. It currently shows in the states on Nick JR. Cartoons aimed at younger kids today are more aimed at modeling behavior you want them to have - sharing, helping others, positive attitude, etc. Some drive me nuts - like Dora is not allowed in our house. Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol, and Chuggington aren't bad.

I don't know what cartoons are like for older kids except for Phineus and Ferb. That is one that my hubby likes to watch.

Frankly watching Looney Tunes now... they aren't as good as I remembered them to be. ]:->

Is that because she's Canadian and often speaks in her native language?

Yet teen drug use is at an all time high and kids today are antisocial.

    It's working.

  17. I'm guessing it is because you are drunker than I am. ;)

  18. lol mary. i drink on a very occasional basis, and i haven't been drunk in ages. looney tunes kick ass.

and for the record, i'd like to amend a convo i had with tim recently. yes, bugs bunny is smarmy. foghorn leghorn and daffy duck are great (these points had already been covered). i'd also like to make a couple of non-warner brothers additions to the worth watching list - woody woodpecker and heckle and jeckle. it's true, i'm a fan of rude birds :)

ps: with the exception of the jetsons, hanna barbera blows.
