  1. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

On the eve of battle, I've prepared the final mock draft for the Browns. True to form, I've tried to make it somewhat controversial.

    PROLOGUE

1-1 Kansas City: Luke Joeckel, OT Texas A&M
1-2 Jacksonville: Dion Jordan, DE Oregon
1-3 Oakland: Sharrif Floyd, DT Florida
1-4 Philadelphia: Eric Fisher, OT Central Michigan
1-5 Detroit: Ezekiel "Ziggy" Ansah, DE Bringham Young

    BROWNS

    1-6: Lane Johnson, OT Oklahoma
3-68: Da'Rick Rodgers, WR Tennessee Tech
    4-104: Tony Jefferson, FS Oklahoma
5-139: David Bass, DE/OLB Missouri Western State
5-164 (f/San Francisco): Nico Johnson, ILB Alabama
    6-175: Nick Kasa, TE Colorado
7-227 (f/San Francisco): Ray Allen, P Louisiana Tech

    THE WRINKLE

Adam Schefter is reporting that at least six teams in the top 11 picks want to move out of them. Teams like the Ravens have stated an interest in Lane Johnson. It's pretty clear if someone wants to move up, it'll be for this player. With so many teams chomping at the bit to move down, it will take more than position to move down. This is a strong-armed move that shows the fanbase the new regime takes no prisoners.

I expect to get a second round pick out of this trade with whichever team decides to make the move. We'll move Johnson for a cornerback (Rhodes, Banks or Trufant) and pick up a second rounder which will be used on either Ryan Nassib or E.J. Manuel.

    FINAL RESULTS

    Desmond Trufant (CB)
    E.J. Manuel (QB)
    Da'Rick Rogers (WR)
    Tony Jefferson (FS)
    David Bass (OLB)
    Nico Johnson (ILB)
    Nick Kasa (TE)
    Ray Allen (P)

We net three day one starters (Trufant, Jefferson, Johnson) as well as two players to rotate into the lineup day one (Rogers, Bass). Nick Kasa gives us a weapon to develop behind Jordan Cameron, Ray Allen solidifies our punting and E.J. Manuel gives us a QB of the future.

    Done.

Not bad, Sammy. Not too shabby at all.

    I gave you a thumbs up :)

Crex?s Crazy Duff Kool-Aid inspired mock draft:
#6 ? Trade, NYJ for #9, #72 ? Jets need to replace Revis and have the ammo to move up and get Miliner

    #9, #68 ? Trade STL for #16, #46, #78 ? Fisher wants Austin here and gets him.

#16 ? Tyler Eifert TE: the Browns add the last major piece to the new aerial attack of Chud and Norv.

#46 ? Jonathon Banks CB: Should provide a solid cover corner in Horton?s new attacking D.

#72 ? Le?Veon Bell RB: The other half of the next Byner/Mack tandem.

#78 ? Bacarri Rambo S: Should do well next to TJ.

#104 ? AJ Klein ILB: Could take and OL here as well

#139 ? Zach Dysert QB: Compares to another big AFCN QB and has raw potential.

#175 ? Lonnie Pryor FB: Marecic just can?t get it done.

    #227 ? Ryan Allen P: Kid?s got good touch/accuracy on the ball.

QB > CB because he is the single most important player on the field...

    The numbers:
25% CB starters coming from the 1st round
80% QB starters coming from the 1st round

...Are completely irrelevant statistics to "make" your obvious point. They are in the end though, meaningless.

The facts (of this draft) are that there isn't a marked improvement over our Senior Citizen currently holding the reigns as incumbent QB.

The only QB in this draft that I would like to see "developed" is E.J. Manuel. Which ironically would make a pretty profound pick as he could be coming into his own right about the time Weeden is ready for backup/retirement duty.

That is why I am not entirely against the pick.

Not at all totally unreasonable SAS. Though I think it's a rare occurrence where one team picks a guy then trades him to another team in the same draft for additional picks. Crazy but not out of the realm of possibility.

I'm not totally convinced that the Browns jump on a QB early in the draft. If they take one, I'm thinking fourth round and beyond. Too many other needs elswhere. Weeden isn't that bad. Really SAS he's not.

I like everything you did here except for Tony Jefferson, who could be the worst FS in the draft..There has to be a better alternative to him...

When E.J. Manuel is gone with that second round pick you got, draft Johnthan Banks to be that Free wheeling FS in the new defense...He could fill CB needs in case of injury also.

Then use that 4th rounder on Matt Scott...

    Well . . .

Mayock just officially mocked Geno Smith to the Browns at #6.

    {head shaking}

If I actually posted what I thought of this, I would be the first Browns poster to be banned from here.

  8. Heres the thing Lym and u have to think about this as not being a true Browns fans, but mayb as an outsider for just a second. The Browns had Weeden and McCoy as their 1 and 2.....they add Campbell through FA and say he will compete w Weeden. Campbell is awful IMO and they say he will compete for the starting QB job. What does that tell u what they think bout Weeden? If they feel G. Smith is their answer, why would u hate the move unless u think Weeden is the next big thing. Do u think Smith is an upgrade over Weeden? If u do, why are u so mad? If u think Smith stinks, can Weeden b the future or should they trade him and accumulate more picks and just go w Campbell and draft a QB in the 2nd-4th round and develop him for a yr.

    Stopper,

I'm not na?ve enough to believe that the Browns will contend for anything this year regardless of who the QB is.

That said; I believe they should fill some of holes in the roster with talent that is available THIS YEAR (that does not include Geno Smith), and then look for a QB NEXT YEAR (with a reasonably high draft pick) when there is projected to be a hell of a lot more QB talent coming out.

If they do indeed take Smith at #6 - I would think of more as premature ejaculation.

It is more than stupid to draft another QB in the first round when we have so many other glaring needs. If Weeden sucks our team will surely have another top pick and we can worry about a QB when there are better ones to draft. I personally don't want to even think about another QB yet.

  11. So let me understand, u want this new regime to settle on a QB they may not like(Weeden) and throw away a yr and draft a QB next yr. So in reality, ur wasting 2 yrs w Weeden this yr and not expecting a rookie QB to lead u the following yr. Why not draft a QB u like this yr and let him develop in ur system for a yr and then mayb in yr 2 hes ready to go. People keep saying the Browns have many holes well isnt QB 1 of them?

Let me try to explain MY opinion in a different way . . .

Assume your job is to set the menu and purchase groceries to support that menu. You know that your clientele orders a ton of fruit based cobbler off the menu. You have a choice for this week's menu - Peach Cobbler or Blueberry Cobbler.

So you go out and discover that the blueberries for sale this week are decent and the peaches look kind of shabby but will be better next week.

What would you put on THIS week's menu?

    Brandon Weeden = Decent Blueberry
    Geno Smith = Shabby Peach

Next year (with more talent on the roster and better peaches to choose from) you have a better chance to succeed.

  13. I understand the example, but what good QBs r coming out next yr? Hell, Manziel won the Heisman and he has very little chance to succeed in the NFL. Im not saying the Browns have to take Smith at 6, but mayb trading ur 3 n 4 and moving into the 2nd round if the QB they like is still available and drafting him.

If we take Geno Smith with the 6th pick, Itll turn out to be the worst move in Cleveland Browns history. and that is saying alot.
Im fine with trading down to mid first and getting an extra pick and grabbing a QB with the second pick, but if we come out of this draft with a QB with the 6th pick we are doomed agian.
Ill be more surprised and pissed then i was last year with the weedon pick.
Theres so many better options/ways to go, itll be a travesty if we take Geno. Its a busta

    Thank you, sir.

Although I fear the SAS curse has rubbed off... I see that comment got a -2. :(

I gave it a thumbs up.

  16. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

    Then we agree completely.

    Geeze... that's a little scary! ;)

  17. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

It's not an unreasonable guess. There's a litany of reasons we're not taking Dee Milliner that high and there are multiple reports from well-connected/well-respected writers saying Cleveland will be taking a QB early.

I'd prefer it be Manuel and not Smith.

And now, we're getting reports that the Browns are trying to trade for Davone Bess.

Like it or not people, WR is a *HUGE* need for us. If we can move down, Cordarrelle Patterson is a very real possibility.

I figure once your karma gets to -100 you're gone. I'm almost there. :p

  18. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Without opening another huge can of worms, can we at least not call him 'decent'? He was the second-worst rated thrower last season and was dead-last in downfield throw accuracy.

For a guy who likes to 'rip it deep', he's pretty darn awful at it.

OR... we don't have the weapons (WR) that we need for a deep passing attack.

  19. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Stopper... Actually, I see it being a big class for QBs. You've got a guarnteed: Aaron Murray (#1 overall pick), Tahj Boyd, Zach Mettenberger, A.J. McCarron.

Then potentially: Teddy Bridgewater (#2 overall pick), Jeff Driskel, Johnny Manziel.

But the issue is what you alluded to in your previous post -- we waste this season just like Holmgren did in 2010 and it puts us another year behind in the development of the other players.

  20. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Let me elaborate with a prediction:
Brandon Weeden/Jason Campbell = Alex Smith
    E.J. Manuel = Colin Kaepernick

Weeden dealt for a 4th round pick day 2 of the draft...

Campbell plays to begin 2013, Manuel takes over mid-season...
