He didnt blitz as much last season. they changed his role. I'm weary of the pick though. We'll see what happens. Secondary might be left out to dry.

If they can't address it in the draft or trade, Sheldon Brown is still out there to sign for another season...

The pass rush is dependent on making the Qb work harder, not JUST sacks..if Mingo presses the QB to his right and helps Kruger get 12-14 sacks, then he did his job.

  3. Lets b honest Irish, teams will have more concerne about a proven player like Kruger than a weak , skinny OLB that hasnt played a down yet. Kruger will get chipped, doubled etc and Mingo will b left 1 on 1. This kid must b weak when u dont want to lift during ur pro day. I think OT's will manhandle him early on

JJ Watt only had 4.5 sacks his Sophomore year. Although he did bump up to 7 his Junior year it shows that it can translate to even more sacks in the NFL.

Granted Mingo and Watt are not in the same mold from a physical standpoint since Watt has him by about 50lbs.

The point is you really never know how a player will perform because of differences in scheme and personnel.

At a time when quarterback Geno Smith has faced harsh criticism regarding his ability to handle adversity, Smith isn?t handling adversity well.

Specifically, the game that is the NFL draft isn?t going the way he expected, so Smith plans to take his bat and ball and go home.

Smith told ESPN?s Suzy Kolber after Thursday night?s opening round that he won?t be back on Friday for rounds two and three.

If Smith doesn?t return, he?ll be confirming in the minds of many that he can?t show grit and resolve under pressure. That he?ll sink his head and slump his shoulders when the team is 14 points behind in the third quarter. That he?ll pout if he?s not the starter or if he gets benched. That he?ll complain about the use of too many running plays when he prefers to air it out.

At a time when multiple other quarterbacks remain on the board, Smith needs to stand tall in the face of disappointment and show up for Friday?s festivities. Only 32 players have been picked, including just one quarterback. And if Smith thinks he has it bad, at least Smith didn?t have to experience his college coach Dana Holgorsen take an NFL head-coaching job, trade down from No. 8 to No. 16, and then select E.J. Manuel.

When Smith accepted the invitation to the draft, he knew there was a chance he wouldn?t get picked in round one. If he had any concerns about his ability or willingness to show up for the second day of the draft, he shouldn?t have agreed to make the trip to New York.

Then again, maybe he was listening a little too closely to those who were insisting that he?d be a top-five pick.

There?s still a decent chance Geno will be a top-five pick in round two. If he doesn?t return to the draft on Friday night, interested teams could opt for one of the other quarterbacks instead.

Just say NO to the whiny litle girl

Tim... I think it depends on the player, but Barkevious only has only played five years of organized football and likely has relied on his incredibly physical skill set for most (if not all) of that time.

He hasn't developed the necessary pass rush tools to be the complete player. He uses speed and bend rather than counter-moves.

That's 49 players available and doesn't include players, not high on the priority list imho...

In other words, we should be able to get 2 off of this list in the next 2 picks...imho, everyone on these lists other than QBs, would be an upgrade at their position listed, thus 2 starters to go with Mingo.

In case you are wondering where I got the grades, I cross referenced NFLsFuture.com and Walterfootball.com. I gave the grades when both had them ranked there, and the lower of the grades when they disagreed.

I think a more apt comparison is Bruce Irvin, who Mingo has been compared to on a number of levels.

Irvin went from 14.0 sacks to 8.5 sacks but still ended up going a lot higher than expected and managed to lead all rookies with 8.0 sacks last season.

Mingo should be fine as a rookie and probably make a bigger splash right away given his level of athleticism. Not to add an undue comparison, but physically he grades out like Von Miller did. Both tall with slightly slender builds (6'3" 237 and 6'4" 242) and their splits are almost identical:

    MINGO / MILLER
    40 yard: 4.53 / 4.53
    20 yard : 2.63 / 2.57
    10 yard: 1.57 / 1.57
    20 shuffle: 4.39 / 4.06
    Broad: 10'8" / 10'6"
    Cone: 6.84 / 6.70

  11. I wouldnt b surprised to see a trade up into the 2nd round for Barkley.....they seemed to really like him and his arm strength is comparable to Rivers....mayb next yrs 2nd and this yrs 4th or 5th.

My real concerns with Mingo are his ability (or lack there of) to play the run, and even if he gets to Dr. Rothlesbooger (still have not learned how to spell his name and don't care enough to check) is he big and strong enough to take him down?

  15. bluez M.V.P. Browns Indians

why i just call him Big Butt Ben ..yes i share your concern with holding up against the run . not one of these rush backers are known for stuffing the run . that concerns me .

nothing gets under my skin more than to see teams smash mouth us . its a test of wills & your manhood .

the more physical team still wins this game .

Underwhelmed, guess that sums it up for me. Mingo was my least desireable pass rusher out of the crew. Happy we got a db although no one seems to excited about this guy. Guess we won't know what we have till sept.

I was far from impressed when they made the pick...however after watching the highlights I am impressed with his closing quickness and maybe more importantly how he breaks down to make a tackle. I realize these were only his GOOD plays, but his highlight reel was over 12 minutes long which is actually impressive for a CB..

As far as trading a pick away to the Steelers???? What the Hell are they doing in Berea???

I can only assume they are accumulating picks to move up to get a QB in 2014??? But the Steelers??? NEVER!!!

If you look at Horton's D, the talent of the corners is marginally less important. His style is to put so much pressure on the QB that they either get the sack or the QB throws a bad ball, this makes the secondaries job much easier. Assuming that our front 7 can accomplish this without having 250 yards a game beaten out of us by the Ray Rice types, then this short, slow guy could do well in Cleveland.

as far as trading to the Squeelers, if they are willing to give us a 3 for a 4, I am always willing to listen.

Problem is, 90% of the time, this will be in the lower third of the round...so you either get a guy that can get a year of experience, or take one the following year about 25 spots earlier...

As I said earlier, I think they are hoarding picks in case they need ammunition to move up for a QB next year.

Banner admitted in post draft presser, they had other offers from teams with virtually the same offer as the Steelers, and they chose to trade in conference anyway...What a farfurgnugen MORON!!
