I've seen Gidion touch on the subject in the past but what is it with RTs sometimes being allowed to just move before anyone else when a ball is snapped and it doesnt get called? That final play TD for the Comtards the RT BLATANTLY comes out his stance before the ball is snapped! It was obvious in real time, but even more so on the replay. There's a name for it, its called a false start. Game deciding buffoonery from the officials.
Jonathan Vilma has long been a substandard announcer but he was on truly horrible form in the Bears game yesterday. Spent the entire day shitting on Caleb Williams despite the fact Williams had a very good game in spite of being on a clown car Offense with 5 performing seals blocking for him. Its consistent with the week on week theme of Williams being unable to catch a break from "the experts". Beautiful case in point: The other week Troy Aikmen was telling us all about how sacks are a QB stat and Williams has no one to blame but himself. If you dont wanna be sacked just throw the ball away! This week on a redzone play Aaron Glenn shows all out pressure pre snap which morphs into Kerby Joseph dropping back right under DJ on a slant in the endzone. Its a classic call good DCs make to bait rookie QBs into killer picks. And it nearly worked except Caleb saw it at the last second and threw the ball out the back instead. So of course, rather than talk about A- Caleb not falling for the trap, or B- not hanging onto the ball and taking a sack on a blitz, or both(!), Vilma of course points out how close Williams was to throwing a pick and great job Kirby Joseph(not even Glenn lol). Truly awful all the way around. Not that Vilma is alone in his cluelessness, there's been a bizarre duality in the way NFL media has covered this rookie QB class. While Daniels and Nix apparently fart rainbows every week, Caleb Williams is well on course to be the bust of the century it seems. Nevermind that two of them are in outstanding situations which an excellent supporting cast and top notch offensive coaching, while the other is already on his 2nd HC, 3rd OC and would get more blocking production from a traffic cone. Oh and did i mention how all 3 have massively similar numbers this season?(besides Caleb having a vastly superior TD/INT ratio)
Speaking of rookie QBs, i thought Pennix had a good debut yesterday all things considered. Didnt see every throw so not comprehensive, but what i did see had a lot of good. Certainly played better to the eye than the passer rating, which will have taken a big hit from an INT that was 0% his fault. It didnt look too fast for him, he played with good timing, and knew where his safety valves were and got the ball out quick when under pressure. Yes he's in a great situation, yes he's been given time to prepare and yes it was a cupcake opponent at home, but all of that is also known as putting your player in a position to succeed. We should all be so lucky!
