He will be given a chance to draft and groom his QB. But like the Browns I can see the team just stubbornly refusing and staying with what they have or a non early-1st QB. Right now Mocks have Cleveland and San Fran taking DLs. I don't know if I should laugh at the mocks, the team or at myself for thinking otherwise.
In these situations I choose D (all of the above) until proven otherwise. The quarterbacks in this class offer some intriguing options. We talked a little prior in private about which one I think has the most potential but this draft class has a lot of interesting players at just about every position. I think if you're drafting for the Browns you can make an argument to go a lot of different directions other than quarterback this season. Hue most likely doesn't need to have his franchise signal caller in place until his third season (and if he hasn't tapped someone by the end of that third season I believe he will be out). I actually like the idea of the Browns moving down again in this draft, collecting more picks and taking Jabril with a pick somewhere in the top 5-7 range. For San Francisco, I think it's a different situation entirely. Moving away from Kaepernick and Gabbert is the first step, but which quarterback do they take to right the ship? All of the Watson to Kelly connections read like a disaster to me. Kizer? Yeah, I'm not on board with that either. Kaaya? Maybe, but I have my concerns. There's talk of Trubisky and Kelly being potential top 10 picks but I see it in a similar light to the Blake Bortles decision. The value probably isn't there for the price of the pick but teams are so quarterback needy (and head coaching jobs so dependent on the position) that every year we see someone over-drafted. Definitely option D on this one, lol.
Talking about Bortles do you think media is too quick to jump the gun and say the Jags need a new QB? I haven't seen too many games but their run blocking is pretty poor but what about the pass protection? Is anyone piece that bad or is it a combination of below average suckitude from Bortles, the OLine and the WRs?
The ship in Jacksonville is rudderless. They could have Montana at quarterback but until Bradley is out they will find ways to increase their suckage. They must have pride in it though. They seem to find new ways each week. This is where I plug Ken Norton Jr. again (vote KNJ for Jags HC!). Bortles has not progressed like a franchise quarterback should. His decision making is worsening but the rest of the pieces around him don't help. The club option on Bortles comes around in 2018. If the Jaguars have made a change in the coaching staff and Bortles has not improved I don't think it's more than a 50/50 chance that Jacksonville retains his services. They've been trying to dumb down the gameplan but Blake keeps outwitting them... *SCRATCH*
Not sure he gets to 2017. A 2-14 or so mark after last season's meltdown in Philly, and think he goes back to college ball.
Random thought - Just how talented was the 1999 Tennessee Titans roster that it was able to overcome receiving directions from one of the worst head coaches in NFL history? I guess the counter-argument to that question would be the teams and coaches that Fisher faced in the playoffs. Wade Philips with a Doug Flutie led Bills, Jim Mora with a 23 year old Peyton Manning and Tom Coughlin with the perennially overachieving Jaguars. Doesn't matter which path you point to. Either one makes Jeff Fisher look like the bag of flaming dog poo that he is. Maybe the better question is - What the hell was going on in the AFC in 1993? Nope, all signs still point towards Jeff Fisher sucking.
More evidence of Jeff's ineptitude. Without an intervention from a higher power he would have pissed away a 13-3 season.
DeAndre Hopkins has 482 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns in 9 games this season. He would need to average just over 148 yards and just over a TD a game to match his totals from last season. Hopkins had 4 different quarterbacks in 2015, but only Brock Osweiler in 2016. I'm sensing a developing pattern. When the Texans signed Brock, do you think Bill O'Brien kept the receipt?
Ugh. As someone that kept Hopkins in a fantasy league. Let me be the first to say I wish they'd have never signed Osweiler *WALL*
"I'll put $50 on Melvin Gordon having more rushing touchdowns than Todd Gurley!" If someone had offered you this bet preseason, how quick would you have pulled out your wallet?
With 6 teams more than likely looking for a potential starter at the quarterback position there is a real possibility that Mike Glennon will become a high priced wolf ticket this off-season. If Kirk Cousins somehow hits the open market he will ultimately get paid like a high level starter. However, if Washington manages to lock him up it would likely make Glennon the most sought after free agent quarterback on the market (even with a released Jay Cutler). The likelihood of Glennon getting overpaid is pretty high. It's just a question of which franchise will make the mistake.
I had Gurley down for a suck season but I still don't know that I would have taken that bet. Gordon had zero rushing TD last season so the only way he could go was up but to have more than Gurley? Yeah Im cheap and likely would have passed. As for Fisher when his career is over he will be known for having the most losses in NFL history.
As they saying goes even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then (psst I think you mean what was going on in 1999 as the music city miracle took place in 2000)
Read the bold part where he asked what was going on in 1993 people yes I know it was 99-00 thats is why I said dont you mean what was going on in 1999
