Sam's option is just as guaranteed as Bakers was. Unless he agreed to something in the last trade that I'm not aware of.

Nope. I said they would if they couldn't trade him but that they would likely eat a large portion of his deal to get a trade done. Check the thread on the Browns board. I missed by one round. Said they'd pay 10 million of his salary and get a conditional 6th. Probably would have been dead on if Baker didn't give up 3M out of his pocket.

 

He didn't have the option offered to him by the Jets, and the Panthers didn't offer it to him till after their first round pick in 2021, so Carolina traded for him knowing they could potentially be on the hook for that.

And to clarify what I meant with posting the circumstances - The Panthers were willing to risk more, with less clarity, on Sam Darnold than what they were on Baker Mayfield.

It's quite a contradictory statement of belief in one vs the other compared to what the media narrative would drive.

 

This is the important part to me, and probably what made the difference. Mayfield was willing to make $3 million of his already guaranteed money into incentives just to get off the Browns.

 

I'm an agreement with you. I was really just replying to the last sentence about if they keep him on the roster. I'm not sure they really have much of a choice.

My opinion on Baker getting cut was very clear. They were NOT letting Baker in that locker room. If they got to training camp and there wasn't a trade, they would have cut him.

And I'll stand by that. If you're willing to pay someone 10 million to play against you, he was never putting on a Browns uniform again.

The best part was the same week I was giving you a pretty good assessment of Baker's value you were telling us Baker isn't liked because he's white and the victim of racism. That was one of the all-time worst posts I've ever seen.
