lol! Yeah, well the pick is now. You don't get the crystal ball. But If you think those three belong on the list with the five QB's I mentioned, be my guest. Write ins are welcome. You can have Lawrence for the next 10 years, knowing that you passed on Burrough, Mahomes, Allen etc., if that's what you want.
Yeah considering body of work Idk how you could pick anyone over Mahomes right now. About the only knock could be if you were concerned how he would compensate for any drop in athletic ability as he moves into his 30’s I guess? But even then you still got several years before that happens.
This is a little shortsighted I think. The Mahomes "body of work" is a direct result of falling clearly into the best situation of the 5 listed. Yes, he got drafted by the best team with the best coach, and it wasn't close. The Chiefs moved way up from the back of the round to get Patrick, which tells you where they were as a franchise before they even drafted him. Plus he got to sit and watch and absorb his entire rookie season. The others listed all went to terrible teams, and naturally played sooner than ideal. Not saying he isn't a worthy pick. Clearly a case can be made, but it's not the slam dunk that you and BWW are saying it is.
Well I’m naturally considering in this hypothetical that I am fucking awesome and thus whichever one I pick will also be placed into the best possible situation.
If results are how you judge things....and I don't see what else you could use to judge things...then Mahomes is anything but a shortsighted pick. Combine personal stats with team performance and no one stands out more. You can't penalize Mahomes for being on a good team. Who drafted him was out of his control. How he worked, practiced, and performed afterwards was completely in his control and very few in NFL history have played as good or better to this point in their careers. Fair or not...wins matter. Jewelry is the difference between GOATs, great, good, and mediocre players more often than not.
I said clearly a case can be made for Mahomes. Nobody is penalizing him..Underdog mentioned his "body of work". If going there, then the situation he was thrust into has to be taken into account, right? You can't just blindly look at results without considering all the factors. Well ya can if ya wanna be shortsighted I guess. Big difference between being drafted by the team that moved up from pick #28 to get ya, as opposed to being selected by the team that earned the #1 overall pick, or something close to it, and that's undeniable.
I know. That's why I said team results plus personal stats. Big difference between winning MVPs and SBs and being just another guy. It's not like Mahomes was dropped onto a good team and became just another guy. He has put up numbers that put him in the conversation with great players. Before Mahomes KC was a good team. With Mahomes KC has a SB victory, another SB appearance, and are a serious threat this season. There are some other guys that maybe could have been dropped into the same situation and produced the same results...and there are other guys I'm not so sure about.
I'm going with Mahomes. He's one of the top 4 highest scoring passers that I've scouted and he's on a career arc that may end up only being second to one.
Well like I said Mahomes is my pick. I was just agreeing that the # of talented young arms in the league is i deed at an all time high.
I won't argue it. Of all the QB's listed, he probably throws the most accurate and catchable passes. Nobody better at putting it on the spot where the receiver can make the grab and keep his stride while adding to the YAC numbers. I really think it's tight between Allen, Burrow and Mahomes. I rated them in that order, though you could pretty much put those three in any order at the top IMO. My preference is Allen, but that might be because he seems best suited to rifle the ball through the winds of Cleveland, Ohio. That and the fact he just helped me win a FFL Super Bowl a couple weeks ago... Not surprisingly, Pat Mahomes seems to be the favorite. Maybe another reason I rate the other two slightly ahead of him is that to me, at times it seems like PM is more concerned about making the unbelievable highlight than anything else. A little "unnecessary hot dogging" every once in a while, with the no look passes. It's fun to watch, but kinda ridiculous when it doesn't work...
I want to see them all perform once they are off their rookie contracts and the team isn't as prepared around them. It's right around the corner and we will be better able to sort out this conversation. Cap hits: Mahomes 2021-$7.4M, 2022-$35.8M, 2023-$46.8M Allen 2021-$10.2M, 2022-$16.4M, 2023-$39.8M Burrows 2021-$8.2M, 2022-$9.8M, 2023-$11.5M, if they take his 5th year option 2024-Approx.$25-28M if he makes a pro bowl(s) Patrick will get hit first THIS season. Let's see how the Chiefs finish out this 2022 season. Kyler Murray 2021-$9.8M, 2022-$11.1M, If they take his 5th year option(which is expected) 2023-$28.6M Justin Herbert 2021-$6M, 2022-$7.2M, 2023-$8.5M, If they take his 5th year option(which is expected) 2024-$19M standard/$25-28M if he makes a pro bowl(s) The Browns are in a similar situation, but with no positive outlook on their young QB.. Baker goes to $18.8M this year, then it will explode if they retain him past that. Their window is closed for exceeding with the rookie contract advantage. I know everyone is talking about who would you want to build a team around, but those that are talking about contract money and the team you are able to build around the QB is better suited for the conversation. Not all teams are created equal and that does matter in individual performance. With this in mind, I absolutely think Mahomes had a leg up on the competition during his first years. He had a proven ready made team which allowed them to be flexible with his growth and preparation. Personally, I think Josh Allen did more with less during his young years, so I am choosing him... I know, I know @beachbum ... As for Super Bowls, the QB still doesn't win this one trophy for the franchise, without an extraordinary TEAM they aren't winning. If you don't believe that, sit down and talk with Dan Marino.
