(Excerpt from article on Cleveland.com) LOSER: The refs assigned to Browns games It seemed fitting that the final game of the season would include an officiating mistake that potentially cost the Browns a touchdown. Much of the season has been a repeat of "Oops. Our bad. Sorry. That's on us," from the officials. On Sunday, it was the touchdown signal on a Lamar Jackson dive that never reached the end zone, turned into a fumble, and was picked up by Jabrill Peppers with nothing but 90-plus yards of open field in front of him. But officials blew the play dead after it appeared that Jackson might've scored. Before that, it was: Myles Garrett was whistled for roughing the passer on a third-and-goal, and the Steelers scored on the next play. The NFL later admitted that roughing should not have been called. A strip sack by Garrett and Genard Avery against the Raiders was whistled dead as Larry Ogunjobi scooped up the ball and headed toward the end zone. The NFL later admitted the play should not have been blown dead. Carlos Hyde seemed to pick up a first down late in the fourth quarter against the Raiders, putting the Browns in position to run out the clock. But the NFL's review center requested a review and reversed the call. The Browns punted, the Raiders scored, the Browns lost in overtime. Officials missed a false start on a Chargers touchdown pass against the Browns. The official who missed the call was fired 11 days later for poor overall performance. Officials didn't penalize a helmet-to-helmet hit on Mayfield by a Buccaneers defender. NFL head of officiating Al Riveron admitted later officials should've penalized the Buccaneers. ^^^^What a fest...Browns fans left to ponder what might have been.
I could list even more that went against the Steelers. I hope they decide to review some penalties. You guys and the Steelers both lost to the chargers and the refs allowed a chargers TD against both of our teams on a ridiculous non false start call. The one in our game the dude took four steps before the ball was snapped. False starts and offsides would be easy to review.
The one from our game is well documented here on this thread. I was in attendance. It was a joke...So bad, the dude got fired for it in mid-season. What more needs to be said? This was BY FAR the worst season I've ever seen for the NFL officials...I think the coaches should be able to call for a review on ANY shitty call that they choose. If it's a bad pass interference call. They should be able to review it and get it right. We have the technology to easily review these bad calls and correct them. Protecting the refs by claiming certain plays are not reviewable is bullshit. If it's wrong, and we can correct it, what is the problem?
NFL Officials set a record for most penalties called overall this year. Shawn Hochuli's team set a record for most penalties called by a single crew. And what's crazy is... if the referees actually called the holding against Myles Garrett this season, it would have been 4,459 (yes, the delta - 1,012 - is the total number of snaps he played this season).
This got my curiosity going. So, I went out to see how penalties affected the AFCN teams. Plays Against Yards Favorable* Yards Net (count) Net (yards) PIT 2858 111 1026 136 1170 +25 +144 CLE 2987 112 894 119 990 +7 +96 BAL 2941 116 940 113 1017 -3 +77 CIN 2837 114 957 113 945 -1 -12 *Favorable = called against the team's opponent. (Plays = total offensive, defensive and special teams) I also noticed that of the 11 teams (league wide) with the worst Net Yards, 5 of them are in the playoffs. So, it's safe to say good teams overcome officiating.
When are you going to get off the "bash Hue Jackson" kick? Frankly, it's gotten old and meaningless. He's gone.
Not trying to be nasty, but screw him...We'd still be playing if it wasn't for that clown. So I'd say that gives me at least until the Super Bowl to bash the shit out of him all I want. lol! ..Who knows how far the Browns could have gone had we not had Hue Jackson's dysfuntional bullshit messing up the works. Sorry, but I'm afraid nobody deserves a good bashing more than Hue Jackson does. Especially from those that were calling for his head long before this season got started... Serious question. Did you hear much of his two week media frenzy immediately after his firing? Where he just washed his hands of everything Cleveland. Claiming he couldn't possibly win with this roster, and nothing was his fault...it makes me angry just thinking about his stupid face.
FWIW: almost all those bad calls (highlighted in that article) that went against Cleveland, happened when Hue Jackson was our coach....That's why I made the remark about HJ teams being unable to overcome poor officiating, in the first place.
Fine. Continue on with your childish and petty ways. I prefer to simply look forward. There's a reason a windshield is so much bigger than a rear view mirror.
lol! Well perhaps that's because looking back, you were dead wrong about Hue Jackson. Not only that, but you used to jump on those of us that wanted him out....Myself included. Call me childish and petty all you want. If Browns fans can't justify firing a few shots at Hue Jackson, then I don't know wth planet we're on... FTR: If you don't think all Browns fans are looking straight through that analogical windshield of yours in anticipation of a Hue Jackson-less season, you sadly mistaken... GO 2019 BROWNS!!!!!!
No, I wasn't wrong about Hue Jackson. People that wanted him out used "1-31" as their justification (including you). Then, when he finally was fired, they all thumped their chest. The fact remains his record was a direct reflection of the rosters he was given. Haslam even pointed out during the presser announcing the firing that he wasn't fired because of his record saying it was expected. He was, in fact, fired because of the discord within the coaching group. A reason that I went on record saying was totally justified.
In fact, forget the SB thing.... I'm comfortable saying that, for the rest of time, whenever Hue Jackson's name is brought up in a conversation, it's likely not going to draw a favorable response from me...
That's exactly my point. YOU'RE the one who brought up his name in an otherwise unrelated conversation!
I'm not going back to research it, but after our undefeated preseason of 2016, Hue was talking shit about how we've learned to win. The culture had changed in his mind. Kizer was going to lead us that season, and the guarantee that it wouldn't be worse that 2015 had already been thrown out. lol! Clearly he had set the bar high, but the mantra of "I can't win with this roster" didn't start till about week 5, when it was obvious to everyone in the world Kizer wasn't going to win shit...That's when I started calling for Jackson to be fired. It was clear to me that he didn't know wtf he was doing... Anyway, I really don't care. What are you gonna do if Cincy hires Hue? Get mad at the world for not forgetting about the angle between Hue and the Browns?
I don't so much have a problem with the penalties called against the team. With very few exceptions (Garrett's roughing the passer Week 1, as an example), they aren't incorrect and don't dramatically change the game play. I complain about Garrett being held every play (he is), but he's an elite defensive end. All the elite defense ends are held constantly. Von Miller probably gets just as many holds against him... the difference is they have Bradley Chubb opposite him. That's more an indictment of our remaining EDGE guys. What I do have a problem with is the egregious misses and/or complete mis-calls. The Browns led the league in apologies from the league office and you can easily make the case this team would have been 10-5-1 with the proper calls - dropping the aforementioned Garrett PF, the quick whistle in Oakland and the quick whistle in Baltimore. If they call the targeting on Mayfield against the Buccaneers or the false start on Okung and the Chargers, you continue a promising drive and replace at touchdown with - at best - a field goal. The misses were 100% worse and more damaging than the calls we were hit with.
lol! who's being childish and petty now? Hue is a part of this year's Browns Lym. I pointed out a fact from the article. You pointed out how winning teams overcome officiating. I pointed Hue Jackson's team couldn't overcome poor officiating. Not my fault you still got your britches in a bunch over Clu-less Hue ... There's nothing wrong with a Browns fan taking a poke at Hue....Sorry. There just isn't.
