AP Source: Broncos boost offer to Von Miller

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) ? The Denver Broncos have boosted their offer to Von Miller, a person with knowledge of the proposal has told The Associated Press. The Super Bowl MVP has threatened to sit out the 2016 season without a long-term deal.

The person, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because negotiations are ongoing, said the new proposal was submitted to Miller's agent, Joby Branion, on Friday and moves up the date at which more money would be guaranteed.

The sides have a week to work out a deal or Miller would only be allowed to play the 2016 season on the $14.26 million exclusive franchise tag tender, something he's insisted he won't do.

A month ago, Miller's camp agreed to the parameters of the Broncos' $114.5 million, six-year offer that would have made Miller the NFL's highest-paid non-quarterback but they wanted more guaranteed money. The proposal included $38.5 million fully guaranteed over the first two years with the possibility of another $19.5 million that wouldn't kick in until Year 3.

Miller prefers something more along the lines of Fletcher Cox's recent deal that guarantees him $55 million in the first nine months and about $63 million overall.

Miller predicted peaceful contract negotiations after spearheading Denver's 24-10 win over Carolina in the Super Bowl but things got thorny last month. Miller cropped general manager John Elway from a photo on his Instagram account and said there's no way he'd play this season on the franchise tag.

His teammates continue to express confidence Miller will be in uniform when the Broncos open training camp later this month.

"I think it will happen because me and Elway went down to the wire last year," said receiver Demaryius Thomas, who signed a $70 million deadline deal in 2015.

"Mr. Elway will get it done," safety T.J. Ward predicted on "NFL Total Access" this week. "I know Von is eager to get back with us. We miss him, he misses us. It is time to get going. But, I'm pretty sure it will get done."

LeSean McCoy won't be charged over Philadelphia club brawl

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ? The Pennsylvania attorney general's office has dismissed its investigation of a fight involving Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy in a Philadelphia nightclub that left two off-duty police officers injured.

Solicitor General Bruce Castor said in April that he decided to review the case after getting a request from the president of the police union in Philadelphia. District Attorney Seth Williams had earlier said he wouldn't charge McCoy. He said he couldn't prove who initiated the fight.

In a letter to union president John McNesby dated July 7, Castor says he thoroughly reviewed the case and his office won't be taking it over.

Police say a fight broke out in February over who had purchased a $350 bottle of Champagne. One officer suffered a broken nose and broken ribs.

they wanna host it on BF Parkway with the famous Art Museum in the background. huh? they gotta build a structure for this event now? why not just have it at the Wells Fargo Center? Why build a structure just to take it down 4 days later? seems like a total waste of money vs the WF Center.

Le'Veon Bell assures he'll be ready for training camp

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell is confident that he's on track to be on the field for training camp.

Bell, who suffered a torn MCL and PCL in Week 8 and had knee surgery last November, told ESPN that he'll be good to go when the Steelers' camp opens on July 28. The fourth-year running back did admit, though, that he needs to get used to getting hit again.

"I'm going to be ready," Bell said, according to ESPN. "The biggest thing for me is getting mentally ready for getting hit and things like that, and I don't think I'll really get tackled until a preseason game or maybe in the regular season. I don't think I'll actually hit the ground or get tackled. But when that does happen, I'll be ready for it. But cutting, running routes, picking them and putting them on my feet, everything is back to normal."

We've seen knee injuries debilitate and end careers for running backs. It is common for players to lose their lateral quickness, explosiveness and power with the type of injury Bell had. But we've also seen players, like Adrian Peterson, bounce back strong from a major knee injury. Bell believes he'll be more like the latter.

"It's crazy because, in November when it happened, I never realize I'd be back at this point," the running back said. "I remember it was times when I couldn't walk up the steps, walk down the steps, really couldn't sit down by myself, even go to the restroom. I'm just thinking now I'm right back to form how I was when I left. Obviously, it's more of a mental thing for me now. I know my knee is strong enough now. I know it's probably stronger than it ever was, my legs are."

Aside from his knee injury, Bell has some added motivation. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract. If the running back backs up what he's saying, he should be signing a hefty contract in the not-so-distant future. (NFL.com)

Williams says he was drug tested "at least 500 times" in NFL

NEW YORK (AP) ? Former running back Ricky Williams says he went through "at least 500" drug tests during his 11-year NFL career.

The 1998 Heisman Trophy winner at Texas and first-round draft pick by New Orleans in '99 tells Sports Illustrated in a film to be released on SI.com on Wednesday that he "might have the world record for most times drug tested."

Williams, who also played for Miami and Baltimore, sat out the 2006 season while suspended by the league for violating the substance abuse policy.

Ricky's wife, Kristin, outlines in the film how lax NFL testing standards were, including when a tester left the samples at the Williamses' house to go get stickers for identifying them.

"He left for 45 minutes and then came back with the stickers he needed," she says, adding some of the drug testers were "like family."

In the film, entitled "Ricky Williams Takes the High Road" (http://on.si.com/29y5LUA ), Williams also discusses the prevalence of marijuana use in the NFL today, and its potential as a medicinal tool.

Williams retired before the 2004 season after failing a drug test for the third time. He returned to the Dolphins in 2005, then sat out 2006 after a fourth failed drug test.

He played four more seasons with the Dolphins and finished his career with one season in Baltimore, 2011.

Williams has become an entrepreneur in the marijuana industry and campaigns for its legalization throughout the United States.

Browns RB Crowell apologizes for Instagram drawing

BEREA, Ohio (AP) ? Cleveland Browns running back Isaiah Crowell has apologized for posting a drawing on Instagram last week showing a police officer getting his throat slashed.

Crowell posted the drawing after men in Louisiana and Minnesota were shot and killed by police. He subsequently deleted the post, but a screenshot continued to be circulated on social media, prompting his apology Monday.

Five police officers were killed in a sniper attack in Dallas last Thursday night at a protest over the two deaths. Seven other officers and two civilians were wounded.

"Last week was an emotional and difficult week as we saw extreme acts of violence against black men across our country as well as against police officers in Dallas," Crowell said in a statement distributed by the Browns.

"I posted an image to Instagram in the midst of that emotion that I shouldn't have and immediately removed it. It was an extremely poor decision and I apologize for that mistake and for offending people. My values and beliefs do not match that image. I am outraged and upset by the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile along with so many others. I am also outraged and saddened by the attacks in Dallas and the deaths of the 5 honorable police officers (Lorne Ahrens, Michael Krol, Michael J. Smith, Brent Thompson and Patrick Zamarripa) who were providing protection while trying to keep peace. We have to be better as a society, it's not about color, it's about what's right and wrong. I was very wrong in posting that image. Every single life matters, every death as a result of violence should be treated with equal outrage and penalty."

The Browns were clear about their displeasure with Crowell's post, calling it an "extremely disturbing and unacceptable social media decision" in a statement released later Monday night.

"It was completely inappropriate and we have made him aware of our high level of disappointment," the statement said. "Isaiah has apologized but also knows that just an apology is insufficient and that he must take steps to make a positive difference after a very negative and impactful post."

gid-im going to say something that people may bust on me for but here it goes...im selfish. i admit it. im not married, no kids, no ex-wives or illegitimate children. i do my own thing-travel, golf, seeing college buddies in Indiana and Illinois, go to South Bend to see Notre Dame and i have 2 rescued cats - Oscar and Tux. I am the youngest of 8 kids and the only one not married. I have 27 nieces and nephews and 2 great nephews. I could've been married a few times but i saw the writing on the wall and knew it would lead to disaster. one was a millionaire (no lie-she inherited the money) and wanted a baby 3 mths into dating. i was like fuck that and rolled. The rest were bat-shit crazy and i was like no mas!

when i see pregnant woman, i shake my head and wonder "why on Earth would you want a baby now and raise it in this country with all the hate going on and high costs?" im baffled by it. Costs will only get higher, people will still kill each other, colleges won't be affordable and the cost of living will quadruple. Why bring a baby into this shitty world of ours? I couldn't do it and that's why I never had kids. I don't want them facing the same shit i am facing now and it be worse for them. I'm selfish, i know!

I can take care of myself, that i know. as for anyone else, i doubt i could when people just start shooting each other for no reason. i hate this world we live in now. i fear for the future and watch my back everywhere i go! sad isn't it?

I know where your at. I don't want to fly anymore, the freaking lines for security are getting out of hand. And the assholes blowing shit up could walk through half of the airport without even having a ticket for a flight. We protect the planes but not the airport. When I was a kid we had no curfew, we knew we had to get to bed, nowadays you can't let your kids out without adult supervision. It won't get any better than it is now no matter who wins this election. But it can get a lot worse depending on who is elected.

    well said Gid.

3 weeks ago a guy walks into a 7-11 and grabs the arm of a 13 yr old girl and pulls her. Her Mother was 15 feet away from them and ran to her daughter and pulled the other arm so the girl was in a tug of war. the guy won and dragged the girl outside. The Mom was running in fear after them. The cashier tried to stop him but couldn't but he did yell for help when the kidnapper and kid were outside. guess who was pumping gas? a off-duty who sees this chaos and hears the cries for help. he gets his gun and makes the guy let go of the girl and makes an arrest and saved her.

now kidnappings have been going on for over 150 yrs. i don't deny that, but this was in broad daylight with 7-11 jacked up with multiple cameras. what was he thinking? she was 13, not an infant. what would you do with a 13 yr old girl? no one is safe.

yeah airports suck. i go early if i have too. i am flying in November to go golfing in Tampa. I have a 7 am flight, so i'll be there very early to avoid lines etc. Yippee.

yep. i flew to college in Chicago back and forth for winters and summers. 1 hr max for the check-in lines at Christmas were long, but summertime, it was 30-45 min tops. now it's a pain in the ass bc half the people at the booths working security aren't there so it's 3 people for 10 stations so it backs up.

Harrison denies using PEDs, sends affidavit to NFL

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison said in an affidavit sent to the NFL that he never met nor communicated with the source of a media report that linked him and other players to the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Harrison has insisted that league officials have to provide "credible evidence" before he agrees to an interview. The NFL Players Association sent a letter on Harrison's behalf along with the signed affidavit to NFL executive Adolpho Birch on Monday.

"Neither the CBA nor the Policy state that a player must agree to an in-person interview based upon random, baseless verbal remarks or face discipline for a failure to cooperate with a league investigation," union attorney Heather M. McPhee wrote.

"In the absence of the existence of any documented, credible evidence, this affidavit constitutes reasonable cooperation by (Harrison)."

The other active players implicated by the Al-Jazeera report are Green Bay linebackers Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers, and free-agent linebacker Mike Neal, who played the past six seasons with the Packers. Peyton Manning, who is now retired, also was cited in Al-Jazeera's doping report in December.

The NFL first notified Matthews, Peppers, Harrison and Neal about its investigation into the report on Jan. 11.

    Not NEARLY enough!!!

    That equates to about $35,000.00

Is that really the price to let him off the hook for facilitating the hate that he did on his Twitter account?

I would put the number closer to $10 per follower that may have seen that message. That would put the dollar amount closer to $321,000...

THEN, we can start talking about ACTUAL retribution in the form of community service campaigns. Starting in Dallas to meet with the families, then leading more community meetings in the Cleveland area and/or his hometown area of Columbus, GA.

We need more celebrities pining for peace, rather than being part of the problem.

IF he complied with that, I would start to think about letting him play again.

After all, we all make mistakes, but there is a need to atone for those mistakes in a like manner, imho, otherwise it calls for him to be removed from the NFL...or at the very least the Browns, then let the other 31 franchises make up their own minds. He is a public figure, whether he wants to be or not. He is held to a higher standard and cannot simply say or do anything he wants in the public eye. If he has feelings and wants to share them privately, go for it...but not on a public forum where literally thousands of people can see it and be influenced by it.

I agree IrishDawg, i just dont know if there is anything he can do to reverse the damage already done. It all might be too little too late.

I sure hope the country chills out... this violence is heartbreaking.
