Bears wide receiver Javon Wims has been suspended for the next two games for sucker punching Saints cornerback Chauncey Gardner-Johnson on Sunday.

The NFL announced the suspension, which was issued by V.P. of Football Operations Jon Runyan, less than 24 hours after the Sunday afternoon incident.

The suspension will force Wims to miss the Bears’ games this Sunday at Tennessee, and the following Monday night at home against the Vikings. He will be eligible to return to the Bears on Tuesday, November 17.

Wims has the right to appeal the suspension within the next three days. If he appeals, the appeal will be heard by either Derrick Brooks or James Thrash, the two appeals officers who were jointly appointed by the NFL and the NFL Players Association.

The injury news for the 49ers keeps getting worse.

All-Pro tight end George Kittle has a fracture in his foot and will miss extended time, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

It’s unclear whether Kittle will be able to return this season.

Although the 49ers are 4-4 and still in playoff contention, injuries are piling up, and Kittle is one of their most important players. It’s hard to see San Francisco remaining in contention down the stretch, and that my make the 49ers decide not to risk putting Kittle back on the field late in the season, even if he’s ready.

It’s hard to be optimistic about the 49ers right now.

Monday Night Football: Buccaneers stop two-point conversion to hold on in 25-23 win over Giants

Antoine Winfield Jr. broke up a two-point conversion pass from Daniel Jones to Dion Lewis that saw a flag for pass interference picked up by the officials as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers held on for a 25-23 victory over the New York Giants on Monday night.

Jones was late in getting the pass out to Lewis on the two-point try and threw the ball on Lewis’ back shoulder. Winfield made slight contact with Lewis before the ball arrived and the flag thrown on the play was ultimately waved off after a conference of the officials. Tampa Bay then recovered the ensuing onside kick to get out of New York with the two point victory.

It was just the ninth time an NFL game has ended in a 25-23 final score. The exact same result happened when these two teams met in 2018 as the Buccaneers won a 25-23 final against the Giants in Tampa.

The Giants built a surprising early lead over one of the favorites to win the NFC only to see it slip a way in the second half.

Jones’ two interceptions in the second half allowed Tom Brady and the Buccaneers to rally from a 14-3 deficit to claim a 25-23 victory over the Giants.

Brady wasn’t overly sharp himself but the second-half turnovers from Jones were critical for the Giants.

After a 37-yard Ryan Succop field goal gave the Buccaneers the early lead, Ronald Jones lost a fumble deep in Tampa Bay territory that led to a Giants touchdown. Jones hit running back Dion Lewis for a 7-yard score as the Giants took a 7-3 lead. A 10-play, 77-yard drive led by Jones ended in a 2-yard Wayne Gallman touchdown run as the Giants lead grew to 14-3 with 1:46 left in the first half.

Succop managed to convert a 40-yard field goal before the half as New York held a 14-6 advantage.

Jones was intercepted by Carlton Davis on a forced throw to Sterling Shepard on New York’s opening drive of the second half. The turnover led to a 43-yard Succop field goal as the lead was cut to 14-9 five minutes into the third quarter. Following a Giants’ three-and-out, Brady carried the Buccaneers to their first touchdown drive of the night. Rob Gronkowski caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Brady as Tampa Bay took its first lead at 15-14.

A 33-yard Graham Gano field goal put New York back on top, but Jones’ second interception led to another Tampa touchdown. Sean Murphy-Bunting picked off a Jones pass behind Golden Tate and the Buccaneers capitalized. A questionable unnecessary roughness call against Isaac Yiadom for a hit on Cameron Brate helped move the Buccaneers to the Giants’ 8-yard line. Brady then connected with Mike Evans on the next play for an 8-yard touchdown as Tampa Bay took a 22-17 lead.

Brady completed 28 of 40 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns on the night for Tampa Bay.

Succop would convert his fourth kick of the night from 38 yards out to push the lead to 25-17 with 3:41 left to play.

Jones and the Giants then managed one final drive to give themselves a chance to send the game to overtime. A key fourth down conversion to Shepard kept the drive alive and Jones hit Tate for a 19-yard touchdown with 28 seconds left to close within two. Winfield’s break up in the end zone served to end New York’s chances.

Jones completed 25 of 41 passes for 256 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

WR Will Fuller won't be traded, staying put with Texans

Will Fuller's bags were presumably packed and he was ready to go.

Alas, the field-stretching wide receiver will not be traded and is staying put with the Houston Texans as the Texans and Green Bay Packers could not agree on value ahead of Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

A day prior, Fuller had drawn notice from multiple teams, including the Pack, and many -- including Fuller, apparently -- thought he'd be shipped. Instead, he'll continue with the only team he's played for during his five-season NFL career.

Fuller's year continues with Houston (1-6), one in which he's tallied 31 receptions for 490 yards and five touchdowns, so far.

Meanwhile, the Packers' seemingly never-ending search for a reliable No. 2 behind standout Davante Adams continues as Green Bay (5-2) moves forward without a complementary option out wide.

Though Fuller remains with Houston now, he's in the final season of his rookie deal, so his future is uncertain.

Contact tracing is currently underway and Tuesdays are real lite as far as practice goes anyway. I suspect if anything developes between now and tomorrow the game would be moved to Sun, Mon, or Tuesday. Just my guess tho.

Chicago moved on from Ted Ginn Jr.

The Bears released the receiver Wednesday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source informed of the situation. The team later made the move official.

    ESPN first reported the move.

The 35-year-old Ginn played in six games after signing a one-year contract this offseason. He played 43 percent of the snaps in Week 1 but didn't catch his lone target. From there, the veteran receiver quickly saw his role reduced, including being a healthy scratch in Week 2. He caught three passes for 40 yards on the season.

Last week, Ginn was a healthy scratch as the Bears giving his punt-return duties to the newly added Dwayne Harris. After watching Harris perform better, cutting Ginn was the logical move.

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, LT Trent Williams placed on reserve/COVID-19 list; out for 'TNF'

San Francisco 49ers wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel and offensive tackle Trent Williams are being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list and will be out for Thursday night's game against the Green Bay Packers, which is still on as scheduled, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday night.

The three players are being placed on the list as close contacts to Kendrick Bourne, who tested positive for the coronavirus. Bourne's positive test brought about the 49ers shutting down the team facility on Wednesday.

Aaron Jones' return from injury in Week 9 isn't guaranteed, per the Packers' Wednesday injury report.

Green Bay listed Jones (calf) as questionable for Thursday's prime-time meeting with the San Francisco 49ers. Jones missed Week 8 with the injury, shifting responsibility to Jamaal Williams and A.J. Dillon.

Packers-49ers set to play Thursday night

The latest round of testing for the Packers and 49ers is back and there were no results that will keep Thursday night’s game from being played.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the game is set to be played as scheduled after both teams dealt with positive COVID-19 test results and contact tracing earlier this week. That will leave both teams without players, but the show will go on without them.

Packers running back AJ Dillon tested positive and will not play. The Packers won’t have running back Jamaal Williams and linebacker Kamal Martin as they were deemed high-risk close contacts of Dillon.

On the 49ers side, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne is out because of a positive test. Left tackle Trent Williams, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and wide receiver Deebo Samuel were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list as close contacts, although Samuel was already set to miss the game with a hamstring injury.

Report: NFL imposes heavy fine, strips sixth-round pick from Raiders over COVID-19 issues

The NFL has done plenty of huffing and puffing when it comes to COVID-19 compliance. It has commenced the process of blowing down a house.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports that the NFL has fined the Raiders $500,000, fined coach Jon Gruden $150,000, and removed a sixth-round pick for protocol violations arising from tackle Trent Brown‘s positive test last month.

The league previously had fined Gruden $100,000 and the team $250,000 for Gruden’s failure to wear a mask. The Raiders also were fined $50,000 for having an unauthorized person in the locker room, and multiple players were fined for attending an indoor event without masks away from work.

Punishment will further increase in the event of additional violations from the Raiders, whom Gruden recently proclaimed to be on the “cutting edge” of beating the virus.

Thursday Night Football: Packers throttle short-handed 49ers 34-17

The Green Bay Packers did exactly what an NFC contender should do when facing a team decimated by injuries and COVID-19 absences.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 305 yards with four touchdowns as the Packers cruised to a 34-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football.

Davante Adams caught 10 of Rodgers’ passes for 173 yards and a touchdown. Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught two passes, both touchdowns, including a 52-yard bomb from Rodgers.

In addition to the numerous injuries keeping players sidelined, the 49ers had to play without receivers Kendrick Bourne, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, and tackle Trent Williams due to Bourne’s positive COVID test on Wednesday. The 49ers had to call up receivers Kevin White and River Cracraft, tight end Daniel Helm and safety Johnathan Cyprien up from the practice squad as replacements to fill out their roster for Thursday night’s game. Samuel was going to miss the game due to injury anyway.

Safety Jaquiski Tartt was then forced from the game due to a foot injury after missing the team’s previous two games due to a groin issue.

A six-play, 75-yard opening drive from the Packers set the tone for the night with Rodgers and Adams connecting on a 36-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.

The 49ers’ only substantial drive of the first half led to a 22-yard Robbie Gould field goal that closed the gap to 7-3. But the dam would then break as the Packers took full control.

Nick Mullens was intercepted by Raven Greene and the Packers immediately responded with 1-yard touchdown pass to Marcedes Lewis extended the lead to 14-3. A quick three-and-out from the 49ers was answered by another touchdown drive for the Packers. Rodgers and Valdes-Scantling notched the first of their two scores with a 52-yard strike to take a 21-3 advantage into halftime.

The duo hooked up again on the opening drive of the third quarter on a 1-yard score as Green Bay took a 28-3 lead. Mason Crosby would add a pair of field goals from 19 and 53 yards out to push the lead to 34-3 before Rodgers handed the reins to Tim Boyle for the rest of the night.

Richie James had the only big night offensively for the 49ers with nine catches for 184 yards. He caught a 41-yard touchdown from Mullens with five minutes left to play.

Jerick McKinnon added a 1-yard touchdown run with four seconds left to cut the final margin to 34-17.

Mullens completed 22 of 35 passes for 291 yards with a touchdown and interception.

The Packers out-gained the 49ers by a 405-337 margin, but 155 yards for the 49ers came on the final two drives of the game in garbage time.
