I heard the news of Summitt passing last night - wake up this morning to the news of Ryan... pretty sad day in sports.
i always thought Buddy was one heck of a talent scout as well and always wanted the Eagles to hire him for the draft. The gang green Eagles teams were pretty solid and he had a hand in the drafting of those players.

Mike Singletary to serve as Rams defensive assistant Mike Singletary is returning to the NFL. The Hall of Fame linebacker and former head coach of the 49ers on Tuesday told WSCR-AM in Chicago that he will work with the Los Angeles Rams defense this season in an advisory role. Singletary has been out of the coaching game since serving as a linebackers assistant for the Minnesota Vikings from 2011 to 2013. Prior to that, he compiled an 18-22 record as San Francisco's coach from 2008 to 2010 before he was fired with one game to go in the 2010 campaign. Singletary shared the news just hours after learning that Buddy Ryan, his former defensive coordinator in Chicago, passed away Tuesday at the age of 82. As a star with the Bears from 1981 to 1992, Singletary served as the heart of Chicago's defense, helping the team to a victory in Super Bowl XX and furnishing Ryan with one of the most disruptive and dominant linebackers in NFL history. Singletary's coaching career has been an up-and-down affair, but he'll work with a talented group of defensive players in Los Angeles. (NFL.com)
Former Colts RB Tipton dies in accidental shooting ROSEVILLE, Mich. (AP) ? Zurlon Tipton, a former Indianapolis Colts running back, has died after accidentally shooting himself at a car dealership in suburban Detroit. He was 26. St. John Hospital spokesman Brian Taylor confirmed Tipton's death Tuesday. Police say he was handling a duffel bag when a gun in the bag fired as he dropped off his car in Roseville. Tipton appeared in 16 games over two seasons for the Colts, gaining 38 yards on 15 carries. He was released by the team in December. The Detroit native played college football at Central Michigan. Tipton's best season was 2012 when he scored 19 touchdowns and rushed for nearly 1,500 yards. Injuries limited him to only five games in 2013, his senior season. CMU says the death is "shocking and tragic."

Seahawks agree to 4-year deal with WR Doug Baldwin SEATTLE (AP) ? After becoming a Super Bowl champion, Doug Baldwin took a risk. He could have signed a long extension with the Seattle Seahawks after winning it all in 2014. But Baldwin gambled that a shorter extension was the best move and by the time he needed to make another decision about his future, his value would be worth far more. Baldwin played his way into the correct move, and he signed a four-year extension with the Seahawks on Tuesday that runs through the 2020 season. Coming off a career season, Baldwin became the latest piece of Seattle's core to agree to a long-term deal, including quarterback Russell Wilson, cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Jeremy Lane, linebackers Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright, defensive end Cliff Avril and safety Earl Thomas. Baldwin tied for the NFL lead in touchdown receptions last season and set career highs in TDs, receptions and yards receiving. He signed a $13 million, three-year deal with Seattle following the 2013 season that runs through this upcoming season. Baldwin's agreement was first reported by KIRO-AM in Seattle. Representatives did not immediately return messages seeking comment. Getting an extension done with Baldwin this summer was a priority for the Seahawks. "It is a big deal and it's a very serious negotiation as they all are. He's done an incredible job for us and is a great teammate," coach Pete Carroll said June 16 when the Seahawks finished minicamp. "Eventually we'll get something worked out. I hope something happens. The intent is to get him signed and secured for a good while."

Harrison wants evidence before talking to NFL about PEDs WASHINGTON (AP) ? Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison wants the NFL to provide "credible evidence" before he agrees to an interview with league officials regarding a media report that linked him and other players to the use of performance-enhancing drugs. The NFL Players Association sent a letter on Harrison's behalf to NFL executive Adolpho Birch on Tuesday asking for more information. "We have repeatedly requested that the NFL inform him and the NFLPA whether the NFL possesses any credible evidence (e.g., verified documents or verified testimony of witnesses) that warrants an interview of Mr. Harrison regarding a potential violation," union attorney Heather M. McPhee wrote. The other active players implicated by the Al-Jazeera report are Green Bay linebackers Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers, and free-agent linebacker Mike Neal, who played the past six seasons with the Packers. Peyton Manning, who is now retired, also was cited in Al-Jazeera's doping report in December. He wasn't mentioned in the NFL's investigation, but USA Today, citing an unnamed source, reported last week that an investigation into Manning's possible involvement also is progressing. The NFL first notified Matthews, Peppers, Harrison and Neal about its investigation into the report on Jan. 11. Al-Jazeera America reported allegations by Charlie Sly, who worked as an intern at an anti-aging clinic. But Sly later recanted his claims. "Especially in a business where the mere mention of a player-employee's name can generate ratings for a broadcaster, the NFLPA and Mr. Harrison do not believe that unsupported, unsubstantiated verbal remarks provide 'sufficient credible evidence' to initiate an investigation of, and require an interview with, an employee," McPhee wrote.
Jets DL Richardson suspended for season opener by NFL FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) ? New York Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson has been suspended by the NFL for the first game of the 2016 regular season for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Richardson will be eligible to return to the Jets' active roster on Sept. 12 following the team's Sept. 11 opener against Cincinnati. But he can participate in all preseason practices and games. He pleaded guilty in January to resisting arrest after police clocked him driving at speeds as high as 143 mph in Missouri last July. Resisting arrest is listed by the NFL as a violation of the personal conduct policy. Richardson was suspended for the first four games last season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He was the 2013 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Manziel suspended 4 games over NFL's substance-abuse policy DALLAS (AP) ? Johnny Manziel has been suspended for the first four games of next season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, and the free agent quarterback could face further discipline over his domestic violence case if he signs with another team. The suspension announced Thursday is not related to the league's domestic violence policy, but Manziel would be subject to standards that were toughened two years ago if he signs with another team. The 23-year-old Manziel, released by Cleveland in March, faces a misdemeanor assault charge in Dallas involving former girlfriend Colleen Crowley. The 2012 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from Texas A&M was suspended the same week he posted pictures on Instagram from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The post included a reference to his father, Paul Manziel, who called his son a "druggie" following a report from The Associated Press of one of his attorneys mistakenly sending a text that indicated doubts whether Manziel could stay clean. A spokeswoman for Manziel declined to comment on the NFL's suspension.
AP source: Cowboys' McClain suspended again, for 10 games IRVING, Texas (AP) ? A person with knowledge of the situation says Dallas Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain has been suspended for the first 10 games next season for his second violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy in as many years. McClain was suspended the first four games last season. He signed a second straight one-year deal with the Cowboys in March, this one worth $5 million. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Thursday because the NFL hasn't announced the suspension. The longer suspension is dictated by rules in the NFL's labor agreement based on McClain's previous violations. Cowboys traded for McClain before training camp in 2014 after linebacker Sean Lee sustained a season-ending knee injury in the offseason. He got his career back on track with two solid seasons.
how many more chances is the NFL going to give Manziel and McClain? jeez. they won't learn and they don't get it. kick them the hell out of the league for good. giving them more chances only gives the NFL a black eye.
How do you even suspend a guy that isn't employed by the league? I can understand sending out the memo...IF any franchise decides to sign him, he will be subject to a suspension upon returning, but, not sure you can suspend an employee, who in fact isn't currently an employee.
