Dallas' 3rd Round pick breaks foot: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/06/01/cowboys-third-round-pick-maliek-collins-breaks-foot/ The Cowboys spent their second-round draft pick on linebacker Jaylon Smith, who isn?t expected to play at all this season. And now their third-round defender is dealing with an injury as well. Maliek Collins, a defensive tackle from Nebraska whom the Cowboys took with the 67th overall pick, suffered a broken foot in Organized Team Activities. Collins had surgery and is expected to miss 10-12 weeks. That would indicate that he could miss all of training camp. Tyrone Crawford, Cedric Thornton and Terrell McClain will be the top three players in the Cowboys? defensive tackle rotation. They still hope Collins will be healthy enough to join that rotation when the season starts.
The problem is the Jets are actually offering him a good contract, but so many teams overpay for their QBs that it makes them look stupid. One good season doesn't justify a top ten contract.
Manning was anything but washed up after coming back from his injury just before the playoffs. Only 1 INT and that was in the SB by Kony Ealy with the most deceptive coverage move ever. He wasn't old school Peyton by any means but he closed out really well.
gid - i don't know if the texans made the right choice or not but the money paid to brock is frightening. you and i go to work everyday and im sure we do pretty good jobs at work. what the hell did brock do to earn that money? based on what did he show to earn that payday? i guess time will only tell in 2016, but to pay an almost unknown QB that kind of loot is frightening based on his game time play ability and experience.
and manning may have not had his old skill set to play as the old manning, but considering his surgeries he did well enough. to me his qb mind is second to none in the nfl. who would you rather have ? manning at 75% ability and 100% qb mind or brock at 100% ability and whatever is in his head?
Decker, Marshall back at Jets OTAs after boycott speculation FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) ? Boy, oh, boycott. Or, maybe not. Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall returned this week to the New York Jets after their absences at voluntary organized team activities last week fueled speculation ? and a published report ? that the wide receivers might have been skipping out to send a message: Re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick. Both Decker and Marshall have said all offseason that they would like Fitzpatrick, a free agent, back with the Jets. Coach Todd Bowles has also said that Fitzpatrick, who led the team to a 10-6 mark and one win shy of the playoffs, is the starter if and when he comes back. But the quarterback and the Jets are locked in a contract stalemate, creating lots of uncertainty as to whether Fitzpatrick will return. "There is a thin line between supporting your teammate and also being detrimental to the team," Marshall said after practice Wednesday. "But you guys know how I feel about Ryan. At this point, it's time for all of us to move forward and try to figure out how we can win some games." Last week, the New York Post reported that Decker stayed away from OTAs as a show of support for Fitzpatrick. "That's not the reason I wasn't here," Decker said. "I told Coach where I was, what I was doing, that I was with my family, which sometimes can get tough for me because of what my wife does and how busy she can be. So, I don't want to say I was on vacation, but I was spending time with my family and that's an important aspect to me." Decker's wife, country recording artist Jessie James, posted a photo last Wednesday ? after the Post report ? of the family together. "It's voluntary," Decker said of OTAs. "I'm here now and trying to get better, and be a good teammate."
The defense won that SB for Denver. All Manning did was manage the game. Was he better than Trent Dilfer when the Ravens defense won it? Is so, I don't think by much. I don't remember any spectacular plays by Manning? Thats not to say Osweiller is any better with a few games under his belt. And Houston definitely overpaid him imo....... Geno Smith told a joke to his WRs but I don't know what it was because it went over their heads!
I gave you the + for this because to this day I would still rather the Bills [del]waste[/del] expend a pick on EJ Manuel than on Geno. (And, when people want to poke the Bills for taking him remember that they traded down and effectively have McCoy and a clipholder for the original #8 spot. And, the Jets were going to take EJ if the Bills had not.)
Thanks Dan! I heard that this morning on MIKE &MIKE. They were reading all the jokes tweeted in by fans. They started out with Cleveland until someone tweeted to Greeny that if he was going to make fun of Golic's hometown then he should make fun of Greeny's team......All in good fun though. Heres a Cleveland joke. When the Browns play a home game, which team do you spit on? Whats the difference between a bucket of crap and a bucket of Cleveland? The bucket! Edit: I gave you a + because I always give back to people who plus me...... *OK*
Ryan Fitzpatrick is reportedly ready to end stalemate with Jets, sign deal It looks like the New York Jets will have their answer at quarterback in 2016 ? and it will be a very familiar one. According to the New York Daily News, Ryan Fitzpatrick is willing to sign a one-year, $12 million guaranteed deal with the club. The $12 million guaranteed reportedly is the same amount the Jets offered in the first year of the three-year, $24 million deal that Fitzpatrick was reluctant to sign earlier in the offseason. Fitzpatrick appears to be betting on himself instead of opting for long-term security after throwing for a franchise-record 31 touchdowns and a career-high 3,905 yards. Despite his gaudy numbers, the 33-year-old quarterback didn't receive the long-term offers he was seeking. Fitzpatrick guided the Jets to a surprising 10-6 mark last year, just missing the playoffs.
Sounds like Fitz will do the deal ... not so sure about the J-e-t-s, jets, Jets, JETS. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ested-in-one-year-12-million-for-fitzpatrick/
Jags WR Allen Hurns agrees to 4-year, $40M extension The Jacksonville Jaguars have locked up Allen Hurns on a long-term deal. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday the Jaguars wide receiver agreed to a four-year extension worth more than $40 million total, per a source involved with the deal. He is now under contract for the next five seasons. Rapoport added the contract includes $20M in guarantees and up to $11M per year with escalators. Hurns underwent sports hernia surgery in January. The wideout missed just one game last season despite sustaining multiple injuries throughout the year. In 2015, Hurns amassed 1,031 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in his sophomore season. He ranks second in franchise history in most yards per reception (14.9). Hurns signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted rookie in 2014. (NFL.com)
Hers a couple more Browns jokes.......When the state police pull you over, you get 2 tickets. If you get caught the 2nd time they make you use them..... I only date girls from Cleveland because they don't expect a ring......
OXNARD, Calif. (AP) ? Todd Gurley has lost more than 10 pounds since his rookie season with the Rams ended, and he isn't exactly sure how it happened. It wasn't for a lack of burgers, though. Gurley's new television commercial for the Carl's Jr. fast food chain is his boldest step yet into the magnified spotlight on him ever since the Rams went Hollywood. Alongside No. 1 pick Jared Goff at quarterback, Gurley could be the breakthrough star of their move to Los Angeles ? but the franchise running back realizes the Rams need to win, too. "This is my first offseason, and I'm in Cali," Gurley said on a picture-perfect summer day after participating in organized team activities at the Rams' temporary offseason home in coastal Ventura County. "We just moved here. I'm excited (to be) back doing football and enjoying a new city. It's definitely been exciting, for sure." The move to sunny Southern California has been welcomed by most players, and Gurley even got here early: He started working out in Los Angeles shortly after the Rams missed the playoffs in St. Louis. That's a big change from last summer. While the months before his rookie season were devoted to recovery from a serious knee injury, Gurley is fully healthy and determined to build on the promising start to his NFL career. "He's not missed a day, and he's running extra after practice," Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. "He looked pretty good running a straight line a year ago at this time. He's doing everything (this year) to the point where you almost say, 'Let's back down a little bit.' He's had an impressive offseason." Gurley feels confident in his second year in the Rams' offense, which has been tweaked by new chief offensive assistant Rob Boras. Gurley is also adjusting well to new running backs coach Skip Peete, praising the veteran assistant's style. "It feels good being back out here," Gurley said. "Last year this time, I wasn't."
Jags plan to deploy no-huddle offense more in 2016 The Jacksonville Jaguars are poised to employs one of the more explosive offenses in the NFL, they plan to also deploy a faster paced attack. Jags offensive coordinator Greg Olson said this week he plans on putting Blake Bortles in the no-huddle more often. "When we evaluated the end of the season, we thought one of the things Blake was pretty comfortable with was our two-minute package so we've incorporated (more) of that," Olson said, via the Florida Times-Union. The Jags surprisingly utilized no-huddle sparingly last season. Bortles attempted less than 40 passes without a huddle, but threw two touchdowns to no interceptions. It's a natural progression for the third-year quarterback to take more control of the offense, which he'll presumably have in the no-huddle game. "He's getting better," Olson added of Bortles. "(We're) excited right now where he's at mentally and where he's at physically. It's been a good five days of OTAs for Blake. He'd be the first guy to say he's not there yet, but he's certainly miles ahead of where he was at this time last year, which is to be expected." With a passing attack that includes one of the top young receiver tandems in Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns and pass-catching tight end Julius Thomas, the Jags offense is primed for a big 2016. No-huddle could give that attack an added dimension. (NFL.com)
Clay Matthews moving back to his 'natural position' Early offseason work has surely put a smile on Clay Matthews' face. The linebacker moved back to the outside after spending much of the past two years lost inside. Coach Mike McCarthy said Matthews has spent the "majority" of his snaps at outside linebacker, which is where the Green Bay Packers hope he'll stay this season. "As I've continued to say, I think (outside linebacker) is my most natural position, my most impactful position, and I think we'll see that on a more consistent basis this season," Matthews said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Pushing Matthews back outside is the goal, but whether he remains there depends on how those inside fare once real bullets are flying. The Packers hope Jake Ryan, Sam Barrington and fourth-round rookie Blake Martinez will stabilize a middle that has been porous -- necessitating Matthews playing inside in certain formations. "Only time will tell on those things," defensive coordinator Dom Capers said. "You never really know until you get into playing games, and you have the pads on. So many times guys will look one way in OTAs, and then you get into the preseason and it's a different game when you've got the pads on, you're going full go and that type of thing. "I think we've got some young guys there that are going to be ascending. We've just got to evaluate how much progress they make." It's clear Matthews wants to be outside, in a position to get after the quarterback. The Packers want that too. But after Ted Thompson again decided not to thrust many resources into the position, whether it happens on a full-time basis in 2016 will depend on how other players progress. (NFL.com)
Kyler Fackrell may end up being the player that keeps Matthews outside. Although Fackrell is listed as an OLB and played the outside in college, I believe his game transitions easily to the ILB and it could be his most natural fit in a 3-4.
