I may have mentioned this before, but i asked my sister-in-law if she was offended or knew of anyone in her family that may have been offended by the use of Redskins, Indians, Chief Wahoo or any of the many Indian names in sports and she laughed and said no. She's Cherokee and doesnt even mind being named on a jeep.
Jaguars' top pick Jalen Ramsey tears meniscus in knee For the second straight year, the Jacksonville Jaguars' first-round pick has suffered a knee injury before the start of the season. Last year, No. 3 overall pick Dante Fowler Jr. tore his ACL on the first day of mini-camp. He missed his entire rookie season. The Jags wound up finishing the season with a record that secured them the No. 5 overall pick in the 2016 draft, where they selected former Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey injured his knee this week and the injury is being characterized as a small meniscus tear. Ramsey had microfracture surgery on his right knee when he was in high school. As Jacksonville's confirmation of the original report states, that's the same knee he just tore. The Jags and Ramsey now both certainly have to hope that this isn't a sign of recurring, serious issues to come.
Jag's have some tough luck... better start trading back or something. Seems like during our mock drafts, some of us were talking about his microfracture and how it might come back to haunt him. Looks like it may have.
Jets' Darrelle Revis fires longtime agents NEW YORK (AP) ? New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, one of the NFL's highest-paid players among non-quarterbacks the past several years, has fired his longtime agents. ESPN first reported Thursday that Revis had parted ways with Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod, the cornerback's agents since his rookie year in 2008. Schwartz and Feinsod negotiated a few huge deals for Revis, who has made $101 million in his career, according to Spotrac.com. He is due to make $17 million in guaranteed money this season. Both agents confirmed the split in emails to The Associated Press, but the reasons for Revis' move was not immediately certain. "Jonathan and I wish him the best of luck," Schwartz wrote in an email. Revis returned to the Jets last year after two seasons away, and signed a five-year, $70 million deal that included $39 million in guarantees.
Tough break for the Jags - hopefully he comes back 100% for the season. with Ramsey, Jacks, and Fowler they've had some rough sledding, but if they can come back healthy those are difference-makers on defense. Just goes to show that microfracture surgery isn't necessarily a death sentence.
i know injuries can happen anywhere at anytime, but with how dangerous the sport is, does the NFL really need these OTA's? Seems like guys get hurt here a lot and are out for the season. I guess if he got hurt in mandatory camp, it's the same thing. i just hate seeing a rookie get hurt and out for the season bf he plays in his first NFL Game.
If the Jags didn;t have bad luck they wouldn't have any luck at all. Dante Fowler last year and now Ramsey this year - Picks number 3 and 5 respectively in subsequent years. How's that for being born under a bad star?
Yeah but his issue was known when he was drafted. Big difference, at least in my mind. I haven't heard, is Jack cleared to practice yet? And isn't a meniscus injury like a 6-8 week recovery? Barring a setback wouldn't Ramsey still make his debut this season?
Funny thing is that with them not being ready to compete yet it's better for their next draft unless it stunts their growth.
I think their offense is still a year away from seriously being able to compete. I don't think a healthy Jags team would make the playoffs this year, even if the division is poor again.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are testing out a smart dummy. A Mobile Virtual Player, a remote controlled robotic dummy, was introduced during Steelers workouts. The mobile dummies, developed at Dartmouth College, could aid in tackling development without the risk of players hitting each other. "The applications we are quickly finding are endless," coach Mike Tomlin told the team's official website. "It never gets tired. It runs at an appropriate football speed. All of the position groups are getting an opportunity to use it. It's funny, you just put it on the field and watch the guys and they show you the applications. It's been fun watching that." The video on Steelers.com is intriguing. While still in the testing phase, the robot can mimic many football moves, cuts and has been clocked at a five second 40 yard dash time. The video displays the dummies being used for tackling, chase drills, as well as placeholders for defenders in passing practice. "I imagine it's a great tool from a tackling tech standpoint," Tomlin added. "In today's NFL, with player safety the focus that it is, I think it's going to provide opportunities to improve in that area without the hand to hand or man to man combat associated with that teaching." With a premium finally being placed on player safety, a tool like the "MVP" robot could become an essential part of NFL practices in the future. With tackling and pad restrictions, hitting a mobile pad could help teach techniques and schemes without the risks to players. "It looked like someone out if I, Robot," linebacker Arthur Moats said. "But I definitely like it a lot, in a sense of being able to hit something in the open field, something that's moving, that isn't a teammate." So long as the dummies don't tackle back, they should be a welcome addition.
Hmmm...disagree with that. I think their offense is going to be pretty good; it's their defense was that was really poor, and they've gone a long way to address those short-comings.
I saw them a couple times last year and they look sharp on offense. I think that team is real close to challenging for the Division lead. Last season they were ranked 9th in the AFC in total offense and 18th overall... thats not too shabby. They were actually ranked 7th in the AFC in pts/game, so if they can stop the other team a bit better this season they might do some damage.
Quite right - there's NO WAY fat, drunk, idiot Stihlers fans can make football moves and run a 5.0-40.
