I tend to agree, right now is as good a time as any... maybe the best time. Firing Garrett now and appointing an interim may be a spark that wakes up the team.

Way too much talent to be this flat.

Funny, at 6-7, they are still the division leaders in the East. My point is, get this team going now and take advantage of that.

3 games left to determine if the 2019 NFC East is the worst division in NFL history by combined record.
All of these need to happen to tie the mark:
    1. Redskins lose to Packers.
    2. Giants lose to Dolphins.
    3. Cowboys lose to Rams.

Took bad angles all night, and couldn't tackle a lick. After a masterful opening drive, they couldn't do a damn thing offensively.

After the loss to New England, they should have fired Jason Garrett IMMEDIATELY after the team's embarrassing follow-up performance against the Bill on Thanksgiving. Now yet another terrible performance - there is no reason to let Garrett play out the string. PLEASE - just let him go. It's a mercy killing at this point.

Oh, and let him take Brett Maher with him.

Jerry may also be looking at this with a wider lens than most are perceiving...

If he fires Garrett he has to turn to Marinelli. If Rod were to right the ship and Dallas made it to the conference title game then the pressure would be on to make him the HC in 2020.

I don’t think Jerry is keen on having a defensive minded HC forced into the job, not when the rumors are suggesting Lincoln Riley is his preferred next HC.

If he goes to Rod and the Cowboys win, then he goes with another HC and Dallas continues to struggle in 2020 it will be Jones that gets reamed by the media.

This season is over for the Cowboys. Only question is does JJ can him now or wait 'till the end of the season.

Could be - but I really think he just wants to give his hand-picked boy (Garrett) every opportunity to get things back on course.

I agree with you that Jerry probably would like an offensive-minded coach to take over - that said, I'm not sure that even an NFC title game run would sway Jones (and erase Marinelli's previous head-coaching mark) enough to have him back as HC in 2020.

Now, where I might buy into your theory would be in the case of Kris Richard. He's the one calling the defensive plays and (oddly enough) also serves as Dallas' passing game coordinator. If you pass the torch to him and the players respond to him, win the East, and win a playoff game, then Jones would be hard-pressed to move on from him in favor of Riley (or Josh McDaniels or Greg Roman).

I think we’re passing each other on the wrong avenue with this hypothetical.

I’m not saying that Jerry feels the pressure because of Rod’s success, but rather the media fallout if he turns away from Rod to another option at HC that struggles.

More than anything, Jerry wants to be perceived as ‘right’, IMO. Which is why he had been so hesitant to even discuss Garrett getting axed. It would be admitting he was wrong about him this entire time.

Basically, I think he is image driven in his decision making and setting himself up to make a choice where he could be seen as making a huge gaff is not in his DNA.

I know that the Cowboys fans are a loyal bunch. But with all that talent on this team, are they willing to wait that long ??

Like George Allen used to say, "The future is now" !

And in Garrett's case ?? It's particularly true.

JJ would basically have to admit he blew it from the git-go and on top of that, he would face a barrage of criticism like; 'Why did you wait so long' type stuff.

I think JJ is screwed no matter how it gets sliced.

If it's just three more game (or possibly four, if they somehow manage to win the east), then yeah.

If something happens where JJ is convinced to give it ANOTHER year - I'll be ready to mutiny. Enough is enough.

Could be, but if he waits till the off-season he can say that he wanted to give Garrett every chance he could, control the narrative a little, and hire a coach of his choice with the comfort of knowing that even if it’s a bad hire there won’t be anyone screaming “BRING BACK GARRETT!”, lol.

JJ ain't gonna read this. And, if he did, he would not give a shit about what I think about him.

He's a control freak like few others. He's also fabulously wealthy due to risks he's taken. His personality and history validate his right (in his mind) to keep doing whatever he pleases. This is all IMO.

As for me, I think that Dallas will be in the playoffs, even if they're sub-500. They won't do any damage beyond a colossal upset. I expect JG has, therefore until January before he'll be seeking employment again.

He's been around for 9 (yes,NINE) years. Your right. Enough !!!!!! He has had his shot.

Keep Garret, it's more fun to laugh at JJ for hiring him.

Was there talk in 2015 that Jerry would fire Garrett ???....Cowboys went 4-12.

Actually, a little longer than 9 years. He was made the Interim Head Coach the year prior to being named as Head Coach. In the 9 years he has been the full blown Head Coach, he has only 4 with a winning record. Of those four, three resulted in a playoff spot where he went 2-3 (the fourth, he went 9-7).

I think it's safe to say his record as a Head Coach is mediocre - at best.

Not so much - that was the year Tony Romo only played 4 games due to two separate lengthy injuries. Their replacement QBs (Matt Cassel, Brandon Weeden, Kellen Moore) went a combined 1-11.

And if he wasn't JJ's handpicked guy he would have been gone a long time ago.
