That post was in reference to Joe's comment about how Greedy Williams' was also dealing cheap shots.....I mean, it is football.

    But that is targeting.

    And it happened twice.

If this was still Gregggg’s team the Browns would be getting labeled as the dirtiest team in the NFL this morning because of how things went down last night.

As it stands, the only discussion will likely circle around Garrett and just how long of a suspension he should receive.

    @TopDawg

And thanks for clarifying because I was confused as to what you were posting.

It was ABSOLUTELY worse, you insane homer. How are those two even compared?

Yes. And "targeting" wasn't a term used in football in the 70's and 80's...That's why I said, I don't think some of you could handle the way the game was played back then. Hits like Greedy had last night were commonplace.

Sorry I didn't see this before.

Aside from the result of the game it was great. I left earlier than I wanted to because my daughter gave birth to a new grandbaby.

I knew something last night was going to happen... I knew it when I seen the schedule a week ago. Both teams involved are flustered and desperate... a heated rivalry and one of the fiercest at that just made me apprehensive all the more.

Honestly I wasn't surprised at what went down, but I bit shocked at first at the street thuggery mentality that took place.

Ive been harping on and bitching and moaning about the League pansying down the NFL, the violent game that I love, for a long time. Now, after some of the stuff that has taken place I see why the League freaks out from time to time to counter such events, but I still don't like their (NFL) knee jerk reactions too much. Garret will be dealt with accordingly and it should stop right there, but I don't wanna see rule changes and anymore pussifying of the game. One thing for sure, removing a helmet, using any part of the equipment or uniform as a weapon, is a very serious penalty and should have fines and punishment to the degree that it curtails this stuff and I thought those rules were already in place, so serious consequences are in order.

Times were different then. I remember watching Butkus bite people and gut punch people in the middle of piles.

Those days are gone and what happened then doesn't excuse what happened last night.

I wouldn't categorize a couple of those hits by Williams as football. Football shouldn't be played that way.

agreed. There are no excuses for Garrett's actions.

The game is completely different today. Hitters like Gary Fencik, for instance, couldn't even play in today's game.

Fencik and Doug Plank would be suspended in the first quarter.

Really? lol! I wasn't implying that Greedy's play was how we define football.

Same with Thom Darden and Eric Turner, and countless others that played in bygone era's. Can you imagine Jack Tatum trying to abide by today's NFL rules?

I'm sure Pouncey is gonna get a suspension too but I don't really have any issue with what he did.

It was probably the most blatant unsportsmanlike thing I've seen on a football field since Albert Haynesworth stomped on that guys face a few year back. I think he got a 5 game suspension for that one. I'm expecting a similar punishment for Garrett.

I'd be shocked if he isn't gone for remainder of the season.

FTR: On the play where Juju got KO'd, that wasn't targeting by Greedy. It was just poor tackling. Three guys converged at the same time on Juju, and Greedy's helmet made contact withe Smith-Shuster's, but it wasn't a cheap shot by any means. Williams was lucky he didn't get hurt on the play as well.

Summing it up as simply poor tackling is weak to me. On the same play there is a blatant helmet to helmet on the QB. There were other questionable hits. If that's poor tackling then I'd be asking for a whole new defensive coaching staff that can teach these guys, that have been doing this a majority of their life, the basics of football.

All things considered...the Browns were out to get nasty last night.

Feel free to sum it up how you want. It was NOT targeting. Greedy got caught in the wash. The play was coming back towards him. Two defenders and Juju all coming toward him. As Greedy started to brace for impact, they knocked into each other. Shit happens. It wasn't a dirty play at all.

If it was the only time all night a Browns player initiated contact with his helmet....I'd agree. It wasn't the only time all night....it wasn't even the only time on that one play.
