The crazy thing is that Brown may have wanted to stay after apologizing but his agent got word that the Pats wanted him because you can never prove those illegal talks and he decided to ask for a release at that point..
He apparently was offered by some teams but he said no but it isn't in his interest to disclose that.
He had to act "crazy" in order for the Raiders to get out of that contract without Salary Cap implications, because that was the only way they could invoke the clause in his contract. Now the Patriots have 1 of the best WR in the league AGAIN to make ANOTHER run at the Championship and didn't have to break the bank in doing so, while the Raiders have boosted their reputation as an NFL team that doesn't bow down to "idiocy" and gets media attention on them for their upcoming move to Vegas. Every one of us have been set up, played along, and he just got his best shot at a RING with a very nice 1 year deal to boot... Well Played AB, Well Played. We won't hear ANYTHING else in the media from him the rest of this season, you can bank on that.
If his intent all along was to go to a contender, he had multiple opportunities to make that happen in ways that served him better. I'm not denying that he may have changed his mind on what he wanted, at some point, but I think it's ridiculous to think this was some kind of plan. Why the apology? Why the public efforts to show he wanted to be a Raider? Why drag this out? If he was told that the Raiders were trying to void his guarantees and then he decided he wanted out, I don't consider him "conniving" on any way, shape, or form. And I think that's the far most likely explanation. To think that, instead, he's had some long-run plan of signing a massive deal with Oakland, alternating between making a fool of himself then trying to ingratiate himself with the team, endangering his health and legal standing with the league between his feet and helmet, making himself a less valuable asset all the while (see the new contract)... Well, hell. No matter what you want, that's a shitty plan to go about getting it. So I have a hard time believing the conspiracy theory, rather than the easy, more historically-correct and in-character answer...
I think Brown is where he wanted to be all along and I think the talks have been going on from day 1.
He put himself into a situation to be traded away from Pittsburgh. He made it so that the only destination what would work was Oakland. In Oakland, he chose to force Oakland to either let him do whatever the hell he wanted to do or to release him. If he had stayed in Oakland, $30mil would have have been his while he went about the business of not giving a shit about being in a Raider uniform. Oakland cuts him, he hits the market, gets $9mil guaranteed to go and have a very solid chance of winning a ring. This is what it boils down to - Either he got to be a jackass and get paid exorbitant money for it or he got released and could choose his own destination. It was never about being a Raider. It was always about what was best for Antonio Brown.
We'll see if what's best is only short-term. If he starts shit again it won't help him at all. But we know he'll play nice now because he's "happy".
The Patriots have signed cornerback Jonathan Jones to a contract extension through 2022. Mike Reiss of ESPN reports that the three-year extension has a base value of $21 million with another $4 million in incentives and bonuses. Jones was scheduled to make $3.095 million on the restricted free agent tender this season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in March. He entered the NFL as an unrestricted free agent, signing with the Patriots in 2016. Jones played all 16 games last season and made 50 tackles, three interceptions and 1.5 sacks. He helped hold Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill to one catch in the AFC Championship Game. Jones has appeared in 48 regular-season games with 10 starts and seven playoff games with two starts. He also is a core special teamer. (PFT)
49ers DE Bosa (ankle) slated to play vs. Bucs 49ers first-round pick Nick Bosa will get to make his NFL debut on Week 1. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Bosa (ankle) is slated to play on Sunday in the 49ers' road opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per source. Bosa missed the entire preseason after suffering a significant ankle sprain in early August during training camp. Just two weeks ago, San Francisco GM John Lynch thought Bosa had a "50-50" chance of suiting up for Week 1 with the positive recovery progress fueling his optimism. Now Lynch will get to see his No. 2 overall pick in action, but the amount of playing time Bosa gets remains to be seen considering the Ohio State product missed most of training camp and was tempered in practice leading up to the season. Bosa is officially listed as questionable in the 49ers' injury report and was a limited participant in practice all week. The positive news is what San Francisco has hoped for during a preseason that has been riddled with injuries. With their rookie edge rusher back healthy and available to play, the 49ers look to start the season on the right foot in what is a big season for third-year head coach Kyle Shanahan. (NFL.com)
He had a contract in Baltimore last year, then had it pulled off the table because his gf started posting crap about the owner on social media...To me that should have invalidated his collusion case but we all know it did not. At this point is he even allowed to be a part of the NFL per the agreement that was signed?
Wow, thought the Eagles would be routing the Redskins....Don't count them out yet, but this is a surprise IMO
