With Luck healthy, Colts can focus on keeping him upright INDIANAPOLIS (AP) ? Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson made one thing clear Wednesday: Andrew Luck is healthy. Two days after the star quarterback said he still had work to do to get to 100 percent, Grigson cut off a question intended to clarify Luck's status. Grigson said Luck was "fine" and that he simply meant he was following the rehab program established by team doctors to the letter. Now Indy's front office will turn its attention to next week's draft and finding ways to protect Luck from any additional injuries. The Colts clearly need help along an offensive line that has allowed so many hits and sacks over the first four years of Luck's career that it's even made team owner Jim Irsay cringe.
Police: 1 round in gun found at scene of Will Smith shooting NEW ORLEANS (AP) ? The first officer to arrive on the scene of the shooting death of former Saints player Will Smith found a gun on the hood of a vehicle with the empty magazine removed and one round in the chamber, New Orleans police said Wednesday. The news came in an incident report from the night of the shooting that was released by police. Smith was shot and killed April 9 in New Orleans. Police arrested Cardell Hayes, 28, on charges of second-degree murder. Police said Hayes' Hummer hit Smith's Mercedes SUV from behind. An argument ensued, and Hayes then shot Smith and his wife, police said. Smith's wife survived. In the report, police said the officer who arrived on the scene first found the gun ? a .45-caliber Ruger ? on the hood of the Hummer with the empty magazine removed. One round was in the gun's chamber. The officer also found a black holster, the report said. When the officer arrived, she detained several witnesses in addition to two possible perpetrators, the report said. The names of the witnesses or perpetrators were not in the report, but authorities have already said a passenger riding with Hayes was questioned and released. The officer also saw a male victim ? presumably Smith ? partially inside the front driver's side of the vehicle. The officer saw another victim ? presumably his wife, Racquel ? laying on the ground screaming for help, the report said. The report gave few other details of what transpired during a chaotic night that left many in New Orleans grieving for one of their team's former greats. Hayes is being held on $1 million bond. A lawyer for Hayes has said his client was not the aggressor and that the truth will come out. Smith's family has described Hayes as "enraged" and portrayed his clients as the victims. Meanwhile, the Smith family took out a full-page advertisement in The Times-Picayune newspaper thanking fans, the Saints organization, hospital staff and many others for their support. The family said that the past week has been "unimaginable" but that they have gotten through with their memories of Smith and help from the "people of New Orleans."
I doubt it. I think the Eagles finish 6-10, 8-8 but it will likely be enough. Best case scenario I see is that if the Browns want #1 next year and don't own it then they can get it with 1st rounders next year alone.
http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/...ia-nfl-draft-carson-wentz-rookie-chase-daniel Sam Bradford will likely ask Eagles to trade him! God please let this happen!
He isn't afraid of a rookie, he doesn't want to ride the bench backing up a rookie. Teams always say the veteran is our starter, but when the team can't win because they suck overall as a team the QB always gets changed to the rookie to see what he can do. If you know you aren't in their future plans why try to stay on the team.
Why would the Eagles pay a backup QB $18 MIL. to ride the bench? Or any QB with a losing record that much. Bradford is a wuss! he's made more milions than anybody being injured and losing games....... *NO*
He's not going to ride the bench - he's going to start. Wentz isn't ready - he's at least a year away from starting. Eagles were 7-9 with a brutal head coach, a flawed system, and mis-matched personnel. Not really sure they "can't win" at around the same clip this year. Ummm...because you signed a contract? Can't just stamp your feet and take your ball and go home when things don't go exactly the way you want 'em, Gid.
Why would Bradford walk away from $18 MIL a year for 2 years? Thats $36 MIL. he'd never get from any other team in the NFL....I heard on the tele this morning that the Broncos drew a line of $7 MIL. for a QB. This was coming from the mouth of Mark Schlereth, who is a former Bronco and does a radio talk talk show in Denver........One reason why Kapernick will never go to Denver and lose millions if he does.......
If the Iggles trade Bradford to Denver and agree to assume the signing bonus portion of the contract, then Denver would be on the hook for precisely $7 million for 2016.
Do you really think the Eagles will be willing to pay $11M for a 3rd round draft pick? That's what you are suggesting, unless you think Denver will give up more than a 3rd for Bradford. Also, Denver would have to be willing to be on the lamb for $4M on Bradford in 2017, which is guaranteed...if they keep him, he will count $17M against the cap in 2017. That's a fairly big risk to give up a draft pick for a guy who can't seem to stay healthy...better off spending the #31 for the best QB available..
Not sure. If he's not in their long-range plans, then what makes more sense: pay him $18 million for his services this year, or pay $11 million and get a draft pick - which they could use after the trade with Cleveland - in return?
I believe it's only guaranteed if he's on the roster as of Match 2017. That being the case, isn't that a good "problem" to have? If he plays well, then Denver picks up the roster bonus and pays him his salary - $17 mil for a starting QB who's done well is pretty inexpensive. If he doesn't play well, then you let him walk.
i read the eagles already paid half of bradford's bonus this year, so that helps if Denver wants him. Please Elway take him. I'll drive Sam to the airport myself!
No, $4M of his salary is guaranteed in 2017 and there is ALSO a $4M roster bonus...so if he is on the roster, that raises it to $8M guaranteed, then if he plays there is another $9M he can earn on top of the $8M...
Okay, good info. So, correct me if I'm wrong: if Bradford plays well in 2016 the Broncos would be on the hook to pay him $17 million in 2017; if he doesn't play well, Denver could part ways with him after this season and take a $4 million cap hit in 2017. That's still not that bad a deal. Essentially they'd pay just $11 million ($7 mil in 2016 and the $4 mil guaranteed for 2017) if he's not that good and they have him for 2016 only; or $24 million ($7 mil for 2016, $17 mil for 2017) if he does play well and they decide to keep him. Either way, those aren't bad figures to pay for a starting QB (from the team's perspective).
Yes, that's correct...plus the Eagles would still be paying $11M for a 3rd, or possibly 2nd, round draft pick...plus that draft picks salary..If I'm the Eagles, I would rather pay full price and let Wentz sit on the bench as long as possible.
