Odell Beckham Jr. remains away from the Cleveland Browns and the voluntary OTA sessions. He was not in Berea for Thursday's session, marking the 8th practice in a row the star wideout has missed. While the sessions are voluntary, it's clear Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens would prefer Beckham was in attendance and learning his new team and teammates. Kitchens turned unusually frosty towards Beckham and his absence in a media session on Thursday. When asked what Beckham was missing by not being at any of the OTA sessions and just one voluntary offseason workout, a bemused Kitchens quipped, "A lot - the offense." Kitchens is expecting Beckham to be in attendance for the next phase of the offseason, the mandatory minicamp which kicks off next week. This week Beckham showed off his new customized Rolls Royce after spending the weekend in Monaco. "It'll be nice to have everybody here and get them some work and get everybody ready to compete during training camp when we're going to start forming the Cleveland Browns," Kitchens said of the minicamp. He added, "I just want to see him (Beckham)." Beckham has given no indication he plans to sit out any of the mandatory attendance practices. - Browns Wire
OBJ is missing the boat here. His own coach and new teammates would love to see him and get in a groove, but OBJ knows better. I don't care for this.
In the long run it could end up being nothing at all but on a young team that is gonna add new weapons and has a young QB with a ton of potential....why would you, as a veteran at this point and a potential game changer in the offense...not show up? I've seen OBJ and fans of his push back at his diva label....but then he does stuff like this.
Preface: Do not take this as an endorsement of OBJ's actions. We see this all too frequently in sports today. Gifted athletes whose behavior suggests they believe they are bigger than the game itself. With very few exceptions, these athletes play a team sport but somehow forget that teamwork absolutely requires practice. OBJ isn't alone. Unfortunately there are many others with this same mindset. They all seem to forget that the hours spent practicing in May end up paying even bigger dividends in December.
I totally agree. You would think the guy that talked about turning the Browns into the Patriots would understand that doing something like that takes a lot of hard work.
Therein lies my inability to understand this mindset. I have never been so exceptional at anything in life that I could coast through the hard work part and still reap the rewards. I'm hesitant to call this a generational phenomenon, but - it does seem to occur more today with the younger athletes than it has in the past.
wow after the disaster with the Vikings how much game does TJ Clemming got just shocked by this move by the bears
Muhammad Wilkerson arrested for drunk driving... Muhammad Wilkerson is currently the best available player on our list of the top free agents in the NFL. He’s not helping his chances of getting the kind of contract he wants. Wilkerson was arrested for drunk driving today, the New York Daily News reports. Police pulled Wilkerson over at about 3:40 a.m. for running a stop sign, according to the report. Officers said they suspected Wilkerson was drunk and he told them he had a shot and two beers. A breathalyzer recorded his blood alcohol content at 0.09, which is just above the legal limit. The 29-year-old Wilkerson played seven seasons with the Jets before signing with the Packers last year. An injury limited him to just three games in 2018.
With the amount of coin these guys are pulling, when does it register to just get a damn driver for the night...?
Goodell: Four preseason games may not be necessary... A recent report indicated that the NFL would like to discuss expanding the regular season schedule to 18 games as part of the negotiations with the NFLPA on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement and past talk about such a move has been tied to cutting the number of preseason games. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has questioned the necessity of having four preseason games in the past and put those thoughts out there again while speaking to reporters in Buffalo on Monday. Goodell said, via Josh Reed of WIVB, that he’s spoken to coaches who don’t believe having four games in the summer is necessary to evaluate players ahead of the regular season. Goodell also said he doesn’t think that the games provide “great value” to the fans. He did not make any comments about expanding the regular season schedule, but doing away with preseason games would mean doing away with revenue and it seems unlikely that teams would do that without something else making up for the drop. Any substantive discussions about expanding the schedule would have to come at the negotiating table and the two sides have started meeting with two years to go on the current CBA. - PFT
I actually do too. But I’d like to see an accurate accounting of how players and coaches feel about having 4 preseason games.
