If the game plan sucked....you were outcoached.

Belichick and his staff are the best in the game because they gameplan better than any staff in football. Always prepared...never caught off guard...and always a step ahead.

McVay was outcoached. The Patriots did to the Rams offense exactly what the Bears did to them during the regular season with pressure straight downhill and Goff couldn’t handle it.

McVay couldn’t adjust because Gurley isn’t near 100% and Goff is a physically limited QB with almost zero adlib skills.

Belichick and his staff were brilliant in this one.

I think the MVP went to the wrong guy. I would have either given it to Gilmore on defense or the entire Patriots offensive line.

Rams defense did their job but the Patriots coaching and defense...and adjustments in the pass and run blocking game made the difference.

Suh and Donald started off the game looking dominant...once the Patriots made the switch to have Andrews block Suh the tide turned there....Andrews owned him completely for the rest of the game and then they used a group effort to slow down Donald.

Honestly from start to finish I thought it was one of the best coaching jobs in a Super Bowl
    I’ve ever seen.

sorry bww to me the game plan sucked because it sucked. the defensive schemes weren't so dominating that they caused havoc for the Rams. it wasn't like the 1985 Bears vs Pats out there or the 2000 Ravens. they just put up a clunker. hell were the Pats out-coached in last year's SB putting up over 500 yards of offense? No and they still lost. 9/10 times they beat the Eagles with 500+ yards of offense. The Rams couldn't have beaten anyone last night. Was it really all on Belichick or was it on a team with a inexperience young QB and a inexperienced young HC? They couldn't handle the pressure and lost, it showed and still only lost 13-3.

    Coaches make gameplans right?

So if a coach makes a bad game plan and loses...he got outcoached.

Unless you think the water boy or cheerleaders are the ones doing the gameplan I don’t see how you can have any other opinion.

90% of what coaches do is gameplanning.

Not every team that loses is outcoached. But the coach is responsible for the game plan, players are responsible for the execution. If the game plan sucked, thats part of being outcoached. Its not just about in-game adjustments, which the Patriots also did very well. Last year both game plans were good, the Eagles players executed the plan better. Belicheck wasn't outcoached, the Eagles players were just better that day. Yesterday the Rams defense had a pretty good game plan and execution, they just wore down. I mean until about mid-way through the 3rd, the Rams offense had less then 100 yards and had punted 8 straight times and did not have a single drive over 5 plays. They were exhausted by the time the Patriots took the field for their TD drive. They were gashed by 2 big runs up the gut, both for 20+ yards, then the Pats run the same play 3 times in a row successfully with the third one Gronk making a hell of a catch. Once Goff threw the INT the game was over, and that was such a bad throw. If I remember right there was a receiver all alone at on the other side in the flats, looked to have enough space to pick up a 1st down. Maybe there was a defender that I couldn't see, but it sure looked open to me. There was another deep attempt that Romo illustrated where there was a receiver wide open on a deep in route. There was a defender underneath that might have made the throw a little difficult but that would've been a big play. Romo thought the guy would get down to the 20 at least, and may have even scored if he made a man miss.

he got beaten! did Doug Pederson out coach Matt Nagy? NO. You kicker blew the game, so the Bears got beaten. There's my opinion on it other than being out-coached. there's a difference from getting out-coached to beaten.

the rams lost the game. we hear the term "got beaten" more than out-coached? now the Rams coach is saying he was out-coached but in an ugly game that was winnable till the last few minutes, i just don't think the Pats were so dominate they couldn't lose. that's not out-coaching them. at 3-3 with 8 min to go, it was still anyone's game.

I’m kind of shocked that there hasn’t been more made out of Edelman’s PED suspension. Seems like the masses were more than riled up about the Patriots possibly not having properly inflated footballs, turned out to be false but the narrative had already been written. Edelman was actually caught, no questions asked.

great point Matty. If it was baseball and the World Series, they would be all over him !

Edelman got caught, got suspended and paid the piper. He wasn't juiced during the Super Bowl.

The Bears had a good gameplan but so did the Eagles. In that game the coaching wasn’t the difference.

In last nights game the coaching made all the difference.

The Patriots were dominant on defense because of the gameplan. They were ready for everything the Rams had like they knew exactly what was coming. And they employed a defense similar to what the Bears did to the Rams in the regular season...proof Belichick watched that film and acted on some of it.

    That’s outcoaching.

Just because it was anyone’s game until late doesn’t mean coaching wasn’t a factor.

Early on the Patriots struggled to contain Suh. Andrews was blocking Donald mostly and others...Patriots adjusted and put Andrews on Suh....Suh was nearly invisible after that.

On defense the Patriots exploited the Rams cut back blocking scheme by sending their rushers down hill on every play instead of playing their usual two gap defense. The result was the Rams stretch and cut back run game was mostly snuffed out. And they pressured Goff right up the middle and didn’t allow him to step into anything.

All that falls back to the gameplan and then the ingame adjustments. It’s coaching. Plain and simple.

... As far as we know. You're right - he was suspended and served his time. But realistically, someone could've juiced for the Super Bowl, and be willing to pay the price if caught afterwards.

Further, if you were a player who knew you were retiring afterwards... well, that'd certainly minimize the negative consequences.

For the record, I'm not disagreeing with you, to your point - just posing the notion that juicing specifically for the game isn't out of the question.

Its weird how some stories stick to some playersand not to others. With Edelman as you said hardley a peep but had it been Suh who was caught and suspended there would have been a bigger fuss made.

Wentz really was a part of the team all season and didn't choose his injury, Gordon has been gone from the team well over a month-by choice.

Yeah I’m baffled by how many people have been questioning Gordon getting a ring. Like has there ever been a guy who played 10 games for a SB winner and didn’t get one?

  18. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

    absolutely.
my point is that Julian Edelman definitely did something that was suspendable and was caught, seems like the Pats have been villified on the whole for substantially less. Im surprised JE's suspension never became a big deal coming out of Foxboro. Known ties with Alex Guererro couldve really added layers to it.
