LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) ? The Chicago Bears have agreed to a one-year contract with safety and special teams contributor Chris Prosinski. The move was announced Friday. Prosinski has played in 69 games over five seasons with Jacksonville (2011-14), Philadelphia (2014) and Chicago (2015). He appeared in 13 games for the Bears after signing on Sept. 29 and had 32 defensive tackles along with nine special teams stops.
T Funny thing you don't need to see it that way it doesn't change the fact the nfl has and is considering doing away with kickoffs Okay if all but three average over 20 yards a return but under 25 whats happens when you kick it high and close to the goal line and the they go from the 2 to the 23-24 yard line? As you said simple math if they are averaging over 20 from in the endzone odds are they will average over 20 from just outside the end zone putting them close to the 25. Again some will yell they are going to kick it high it will make a difference and they teams will be pinned by the goal line. Again if they could do this already they would. Lets see I can kick the ball deep in the endzone and they get it at the 20 or I can kick it high and inside the five and we can pin them inside the 10. Yeah not a lot of teams trying that last season so its not going to change it this season either. Sure some teams will try it and once teams are starting at the 25 to 30 yard line (or worse) they will go back to punching it into the endzone and giving them the start at the 25. Just one idiot fans humble opinion arm yourself with it and $8 and you can get coffee at starbucks.
Except it is not that simple of math when there is more hang-time, thus more time for the coverage team to get downfield.
There wasn't an extra 5 yards before. Read my earlier post. It's an unknown. That's why the NFL said they have no clue what will happen.
What is odd to me is... if the NFL has no clue and no previous experience and no test period... why are they just winging it in the first place?
Raiders paying much more to stay put in Oakland stadium OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) ? The authority that operates O.co Coliseum has approved a new lease extension for the Oakland Raiders that more than triples the team's rent to use the stadium and their training facility in nearby Alameda. The Oakland Tribune reports (http://bayareane.ws/1RE90si ) Friday that the team will now shell out $3.5 million in rent, up from $925,000 it paid last season.
This 1-year trial is the test period. It is just impossible to get a clear set of data during the preseason.
I guess so... you'd think 5 yards wouldnt be a big deal tho. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I know they are. What I disagreed with was your assertion that it was "silly" that teams may now short-kick in attempt to get teams to return the ball. What's better - having your opponent start on the 23 or the 25? No, they wouldn't - not when the ball is placed at the 20. With the ball placed there, it makes sense to just kick the ball out of the endzone since average returns would enable teams to get beyond the 20. Guess we'll agree to disagree.
Honestly, It still makes my 3 1/2 brain cells hurt trying to figure this rule change. It seems like you can put up arguments for both sides of the decision. But what kills me is why in the first place would 5 yards change things in enough of a significant way to make a difference. *SCRATCH*
Saints reach one-year deal with Fairley The New Orleans Saints have added much-needed beef to their defensive line. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday the Saints have agreed to a one-year deal with Nick Fairley. Rapoport first reported the deal was excepted to go do last week. The New England Patriots had interest in adding Fairley after losing Akiem Hicks, but fell out of the running on the defensive tackle, per Rapoport. The Saints desperately need interior pass rushing. Outside of Cameron Jordan, New Orleans didn't have a defensive lineman who could sniff the quarterback last season. Fairley has his limits as an every-down player, but he can get after the quarterback. As a rotational player last season for the Rams, Pro Football Focus ranked Fairley as their No. 6 pass rusher among defensive lineman. The 28-year-old veteran has been a plus pass rusher in each of his five NFL seasons. _______________ _____________________________ Nice addition to the Saints.
Packers to sign tight end Jared Cook Stop the presses: Green Bay has ventured into the free-agent market. The Packers are expected to sign veteran tight end Jared Cook to a one-year $3.6 million deal, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday. Cook, who is in Green Bay at the moment taking a physical on a deal that was agreed to last week, would contest for the No. 1 spot on the team's depth chart and provide a consistent receiving threat for Aaron Rodgers. Despite the fact that tight end Richard Rodgers was second on the team in receptions last year with 58 (for 510 yards and eight touchdowns), Green Bay was hoping for some additional help to open up the middle of the field. Andrew Quarless played in just five games last year before landing on injured reserve. He is currently a free agent. Cook, 28, comes to Green Bay after three solid seasons in St. Louis. Since 2013, Cook logged 142 catches for 1,786 yards and eight touchdowns. The former Titan was a third-round draft pick back in 2009.
Getting the ball 5 yards closer (to the 25) is a pretty strong dis-incentive for the receiving team against attempting a return. If the average return is less than 25 yards, it makes sense just to take a knee.
