Well, they certainly put themselves in a better position to make a deal like that when they moved from #13 to #8. They'll still have to pay a pretty penny to swap spots with Cleveland.
Agree - I think a lot of teams will now try to "pooch" it to the side and to the 5 yard line, forcing a runback.
RG3 to sign with the Browns: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...sign-rg3?campaign=fb-nf-sf23089282-sf23089282
I like the move. It's a stretch, but the competition in the Summer for the starting job in Cleveland is going to be real fun and interesting now.
I believe the Brown's will get max. value by shopping #2 if some team is anxious for one of the two top QB's. It certainly takes the heat off the Browns to potentially reach for one at #2. There was interesting talk yesterday on Denver radio about RGIII; he is a risk, but also one with an extremely high upside still. I still expect the Browns will pick one before day three of the draft.
I think the Browns are still going QB at #2. This is RG3rd string not RG3 at the draft with his crazy socks. We'll have to see the contract details but with a QB in place for the next couple years I think a guy that may need grooming like Wentz makes sense. No one else wanted this guy as their QB. The injuries, the regression and the possible baggage. He didn't succeed in Washington for a while. Is Cleveland going to change anything? Maybe but if they go QB they got insurance so they don't have to look at a rookie to start there again in a few years. They'll have one in place if needed. Wentz's biggest knock from some was that if a team needed him now he wouldn't be ready. With RG3 in place he may actually be a more attractive option for them now.
The NFL just wants to increase the return rate without saying so. They claim safety when in fact they want to encourage more returns, lol.
I agree - it'd be crazy (even by Browns' standards) to lay all your eggs in RG3's basket. Plus his deal is for 2 years at a reasonable rate - if he can't stay healthy or stinks up the joint, they can cut him easily.
They (NFL) are looking to eliminate kickoffs this belief that more teams will kick it high and short to try and pin team close to the goal line is silly. If teams could do that wouldn't they already be kicking it short and high? Yes of course they would the fact that they are not doing this more often says that teams do not want the opponent returning the ball at all.
They don't already kick high towards the 0-5 because it isn't consistent enough and getting near the 20 is not too hard and there is a chance to get a bigger return. Now however they need to get 5 yards further do there is a decent chance may returns will be stopped in the 15 to early 20s range. Some teams already said they'd try this. Some already said they will continue to just get touchbacks as the odds don't change much with the 5 yards but it's safer.
I don't see it that way at all. No, because most teams (all but 3) average over - and in some cases, WELL over - 20 yards per kickoff return. Simple math tells you putting the ball at the 20 is better. They don't want them returning the ball if the spot is the 20. If it's the 25, the dynamic changes - most teams were UNDER 25 yards per return.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) ? The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with veteran safety Rashad Johnson on a one-year contract. The Titans announced the deal Friday. The 5-foot-11, 204 pound Johnson spent the past seven seasons with Arizona after the Cardinals selected him in the third round of the 2009 draft out of Alabama. Johnson has started 51 of his 100 career games with 15 interceptions, 26 passes defended, one sack and four fumbles recovered. He also has returned three interceptions for touchdowns. Johnson started 14 games last season and had a career-high five interceptions, which tied for sixth in the NFL. He started both of Arizona's playoff games and also had his first postseason interception. He'll help replace veteran Michael Griffin, released by the Titans earlier this offseason.
