Bengals announce Hue Jackson hired as special assistant to the head coach...

Hue Jackson is working in the NFL again.

Jackson, the head coach fired by the Browns two weeks ago, has landed in Cincinnati as an assistant to his old friend Marvin Lewis. Jackson’s title will be Special Assistant to the Head Coach.

“I have a great comfort level with Hue and his ability to assist me with the day-to-day responsibilities on defense, including analyzing our opponents and helping me on game days with the players and defensive coaches,” Lewis said in a statement.

Jackson added, “I’m pleased to have the opportunity to join the Bengals this season. There is a lot of talent on this team, and I look forward to doing my part to help it finish the season strong.”

This is Jackson’s third stint as an assistant to Lewis in Cincinnati. Jackson was first hired by Lewis in 2004 as the Bengals’ receivers coach. After Jackson spent a year as head coach of the Raiders, he was again hired by Lewis in 2012 and spent four years in Cincinnati in a variety of roles, including two years as offensive coordinator in 2014 and 2015. I still don’t see the appeal of Josh “Flip-Flop” McDaniels. He’s the guy that’ll kick a hole in yer boat then swim for shore... with the remaining beer from the cooler in tow.

Steelers announce Le’Veon Bell will not play in 2018...

In case there was any doubt, the Steelers have now made it official: Le'Veon Bell is not playing for them, or anyone else, in 2018.

Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert issued a statement on Bell, the franchise running back who has not signed his tender, as soon as the deadline for him to sign it passed at 4 p.m. Eastern today.

“I want to confirm that Le’Veon Bell did not sign his Franchise Tender today and, as a result, he will not be eligible to play football during the 2018 season,” Colbert said in the statement.

That almost certainly ends Bell’s career with the Steelers. He’s expected to sign with some other team in free agency in 2019, and the Steelers will move on without him. Thanks to the outstanding play of James Conner this season, they haven’t missed, and if anything they may be glad that Bell didn’t sign his franchise tag, which saved the team $14.5 million. NFL moves Chiefs-Rams to Los Angeles...

There will not be a game between the Chiefs and Rams in Mexico City next Monday night.

The NFL announced on Tuesday that the game will move from Azteca Stadium to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The game is being moved after concerns were raised about the condition of the field after several events were held at Azteca Stadium amid a lot of rain in Mexico City. There was an attempt to re-sod the field on Tuesday, but the league consulted with the NFLPA and independent field experts before determining that the field was not up to NFL standards now and would not be ready by gameday.

NFL executive vice president of international Mark Waller said in a statement that the field conditions presented an “unnecessary risks to player safety.” Before the NFL’s decision, players from both teams were reportedly considering not playing in the game for that reason.

All teams scheduled to give up a home game for an international game are required to have their home stadiums available on an emergency basis. The Rams have traveled to Colorado Springs to prepare for the Mexico City trip at altitude, but will now head back home to get ready to host the 9-1 Chiefs. (PFT)

Terrelle Pryor was cut by another AFC East team...

The Buffalo Bills announced Tuesday they released the veteran receiver.

    ESPN first reported the news.

Pryor lasted just two games with the Bills, catching two passes for 17 yards.

The cut was hardly a surprise, as the 29-year-old receiver had his snaps slashed from 66 two weeks ago to 31 in Sunday's tilt. In neither game was he effective and he generated zero targets in his second game.

For the season, Pryor has just 16 catches for 252 yards and two touchdowns in eight games.

The Bills will rightly give more playing time to younger players down the stretch. Undrafted rookie Robert Foster displayed field-stretching speed and high-point acumen, catching three passes for 105 yards in Sunday's victory. Zay Jones has also come to life in recent weeks, compiling 93 yards on eight catches and a score in Week 10.

As for Pryor, who was cut by the New York Jets last month, maybe the receiver-needy Dolphins and Patriots will give him a shot down the stretch to see if he can run through the entire AFC East in one season. (NFL.com)

Cowboys rookie Leighton Vander Esch nabs NFC defensive player of the week...

The Cowboys drafted linebacker Leighton Vander Esch in the first round this year and he showed off some of what grabbed their attention against Philadelphia last Sunday night.

Vander Esch got the start against the Eagles because Sean Lee is sidelined by a hamstring injury and he made sure the Cowboys didn’t miss their longtime defensive leader all that much. The rookie had the first interception of his career and recorded 13 tackles to help Dallas to a 27-20 victory over their NFC East rivals.

One of Vander Esch’s tackles came on a third-and-2 pass to Eagles running back Corey Clement on the first play after the two minute warning in the fourth quarter. The Eagles were on the Dallas 30-yard-line and driving to try to tie the game, but Vander Esch dumped Clement for a five-yard loss that helped force a turnover on downs.

The start was the fourth that Vander Esch has made this season. He’s played on 69 percent of the snaps overall and has 76 tackles this season. (PFT)

Ben Roethlisberger is the AFC offensive player of the week...

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was perfect against the Panthers last Thursday.

Perfect according to the formula used to devise quarterback ratings, anyway. Roethlisberger posted a 158.3 rating for the fourth time in his career while leading the Steelers to a 52-21 win over Carolina.

The NFL announced on Wednesday that Roethlisberger’s fourth perfect passer rating led to the 17th AFC offensive player of the week honor of his career. Roethlisberger also took the prize for his performance in Week Three against the Buccaneers.

Roethlisberger opened the game with a 75-yard touchdown pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster and went 22-of-25 for 328 yards and five touchdowns over the course of the entire game. Ten different players were on the receiving end of those passes as Roethlisberger used everyone on the offense to fuel the blowout win. (PFT)

I read that since the Rams already traveled to Colorado, they will remain there to practice before returning home for the relocated game.
