A.J. Green undergoing further testing on foot... All indications Tuesday were that Bengals receiver A.J. Green‘s protective boot simply was a precaution. But now Paul Dehner of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Green is “not out of the woods” yet with his foot injury. The Pro Bowler’s foot remains swollen, prompting the Bengals to send Green for further testing. The Bengals are on their open date this week but play the Saints in Week 10. Their next injury report comes Nov. 7. Green played 62 of 66 snaps against the Buccaneers on Sunday. He has 45 catches for 687 yards and six touchdowns this season. (NBC's PFT)
Yeah, well, be thankful... The Browns were also reportedly going to be huge players, not just the media, but John Dorsey said their phones were going to be busy...They traded for no one... At first I was disappointed, but after some thought, I can see why and your Eagles are one of the reasons. First you see the Cowboys trade away a first round draft pick for Amari Cooper...whom has underachieved in his short career and will be playing on his 5th year option in 2019, no guarantees after that, unless they want to franchise tag him. On the flip side, Houston got Demaryius Thomas for a 4th rounder and has one year left after this on his contract, albeit a $14M year. Then, the Eagles spent a 3rd rounder for a 8 game loan of another 30 year old receiver in Golden Tate...Now, I wanted Tate, but I expected the comp to be a 5th rounder, not a 3rd. The prices were out of context for the players being traded, so I am glad they sat out...
The Eagles could move Aghulor and keep Tate if they wanted. The possibilities are that it's not a loan. Dallas is out of their minds for that Cooper trade and the price they paid. Cooper isn't that good and the Cowboys aren't on the doorstep of the Super Bowl. They could've had Tate for less and be in the same spot they're in now.
Yes, "possibility" would dictate the 5th rounder...otherwise, if it was certain to only be 8 games, a 6th/7th rounder would be in order. A 3rd rounder, you have more than 6 months to come to an extension, otherwise you lose the player. It was an over payment on a player his age. Granted, if he were 27, instead of 30, that would be different also. But knowing you might have to $$pay$$ the player to get an extension done, he is not that type of player at this point in his career, and you just spent a 3rd rounder, which is high enough to possibly get a player of the future that could contribute, at least as much, as Tate moving forward and on a rookie contract for 4 years. The Eagles are playing for a Super Bowl repeat, hard enough to do in itself, but anything short of that and this trade was a bad move.
Tate will also figure in the compensatory pick equation if he isn't resigned. The thought is he will resign but if we doesdoesnt then the Eagles probably get a 4th in 2020. Now giving up a 3rd doesn't seem so steep.
Yeah, and if you're the Lions, you're only taking a pick greater than what you'd get back in a compensatory pick. Why get rid of Tate for a 5th if he's going to net you a 5th compensatory pick at the end of the year, anyway? In order for him to be moved, they had to get enough, and the team trading for him has to know that either they extend him, or they get a pick back to soften what they gave up.
Good point... That is if the Eagles don't sign any other free agents though. Many forget, in order to get that comp pick, you can't have a free agent that cancels the player lost out. It's very difficult in October to be assuming anything on the compensatory scale.
a FA WR or any FA player ? if it's any FA player than it's a bad move. If it's just any FA WR, it's ok.
Any free agent player.. Example: Tate signs a contract for $8M Ave. Eagles sign a lineman for $8M Ave. They cancel each other out and no comp pick for Tate. Eagles sign a WR for $4M, now Tate's 4th round comp pick falls to a 6/7th.
It's not really too early to think that. These front offices are thinking about it all the time and it certainly was a point of discussion in making this trade. That being said the Eagles seem to be trying to get back into the comp pick game for the last few years.
Well, I hope someone, somewhere is thinking about it... They currently have a little over $7M in cap space to roll over into 2019, they also have 18 expiring contracts and Nick Foles, who they are almost certain to let go because of his cap figure. When it's all said and done, they will have around $9M in cap space after Foles is released...So, yeah, I can now see where the comp picks will come into play. They are going to have to find some cap just to sign their rookies, they aren't going to be players in free agency unless they find some money... AND they need to re-sign or replace: Brandon Graham Golden Tate Haloti Ngata Corey Graham Darren Sproles Jay Ajayi Ronald Darby Jordan Matthews Jordan Hicks This is going to be a real interesting off season for the Eagles They also need to decide if they are going to cut Chris Long to save money for a downward trending 34 year old...
ajayi and sproles aredone. darby and mills can go. haha. how does cutting foles only boost their cap money $2 mil from $7 to 9 mil? i thought he was on the books for a lot more? i didn't look at it, so you're probably right.
He is, he's going to save about $19M, but they are going to be in a [-$11m] hole before cutting Foles... (edit) the [-$11M] includes the $7M carry over
