Eagles save $1M by trading him instead of releasing him. This was never about the pick. That's why it's a 7th conditional pick. Likely a snap count or games played or even that he has to resign with the team before the next draft.
Decent pick up if he's their backup. If he's the starter...rut roh. Kap is an interesting prospect if he'll take some of the risk out of his contract. He'd seem to be a great fit for Kubiak offense.
NFL Announces Compensatory Selections https://nflcommunications.com/Pages/NFL-ANNOUNCES-33-COMPENSATORY-DRAFT-CHOICES-TO-13-CLUBS.aspx There are no 7th round picks so the selection for MR. Irrelevant can be traded for.
Shady issue came up with the comp picks. The NFL awards 32 of them but awarded 33 this season. Look at the last team. It's the Patriots. They clearly partially refunded the deflate gate forfeited pick no?
I did say partial. NFL threw a bone with squeezing in an extra comp pick at the end of the 6th and they'll surely report it as making up for 4 picks forfeited in this draft so another guy can get drafted.
The predictions from overthecap about the comp picks were pretty spot on. The only major difference is that the Bills were eligible for comp picks when they were expected not to, but Charles Clay was ruled to NOT qualify. Also the round cutoffs happened later in the order than expected. The only other difference is that they predicted a late 6th for San Diego. They did not get one and the Bills got one instead.
By doing it now it clears their own cap. Remember they only had about $5M. Now they have just a bit more. Enough for a few more small signings or a relatively big one if they need to before the draft.
Oh ok didn't realize it had cap holds on those tenders but, it makes sense. I think Buffalo is going to be kicking themselves in the near future for letting this guy go.
