Updates are saying that he tore his ACL and will miss the season. I hate seeing injuries in pre season, especially rookies.

Sam Darnold off to an impressive start after following Teddy Bridgewater...

It’s only halftime of the first preseason game for the Jets, but they have to like what they have seen from their quarterbacks.

Sam Darnold followed Teddy Bridgewater, making his NFL preseason debut.

The third overall pick went 9-for-11 for 74 yards and a touchdown in the first half. His 14-yard pass to Charles Johnson for a touchdown came with 45 seconds left in the half and gave the Jets a 17-0 lead over the Falcons.

Jets quarterbacks were 17-for-20 for 163 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.

Starter Josh McCown played only three snaps as the Jets went three-and-out to start the game. He completed his only attempt for 4 yards.

Bridgewater threw his first touchdown pass in two years, a 16-yard toss to Isaiah Crowell in the first quarter. Bridgewater led a field-goal drive on his second of two series before giving way to Darnold. (PFT)

It was an impressive start by Teddy and very cool to see him out there... I still think the Vikings should have stuck with him (as a back-up), but in NY, he probably has a better chance at getting some PT. Darnold came in and didn't miss a beat either. Both QB's didn't miss the mark hardly at all.

Jaguars suspend Jalen Ramsey for a week...

Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey went off on a Jacksonville reporter, and the Jaguars aren’t happy about it.

As a result, Ramsey has been suspended for a week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Ramsey had words, both on the practice field and on Twitter, with Phillip Heilman, a reporter for Jacksonville.com. Heilman tweeted a video of a fight between Jacksonville’s Yannick Ngakoue and Dante Fowler at Jaguars training camp, and the video ends with Ramsey looking at Heilman and yelling, “Y’all stop recording that!”

Afterward, Ramsey tweeted at Heilman, “you know you done messed up right? Lol if y’all want war, we got sum for y’all. & Iknow the rest of y’all (you know who you are) gone read this too so just know #LameAssReporters.”

Ramsey then tweeted, “I’m always gone take up for my teammates kus I know what type of men and players they are forreal! Love my dawgs! If you don’t like it, oh well. God bless.”

Teams want players to follow league rules about media relations, but it’s surprising that the Jaguars would suspend Ramsey for this. There may be more to the story, but whatever the reasons, the Jaguars have decided to give their All-Pro cornerback a week to cool off. (PFT)

Browns are sticking with the plan at quarterback...

Rookie Baker Mayfield had an impressive debut for the Browns on Thursday night, but it wasn’t impressive enough to get the Browns to change their plans at quarterback.

“We’re sticking with our plan,” quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese said Sunday, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “Let’s get on with Tyrod as our starter. He’s our guy.” (Curiously, that specific comment didn’t make its way into the “select quotes” the Browns are now distributing from player and coach media availability.)

The Browns repeatedly have said that Taylor will be the starting quarterback, and not just for the start of the season but ideally for the full year. People on the outside are beginning to think that could be a mistake; the real question is whether the people on the inside — specifically, other players — agree.

NFL teams fall into two categories: Those that have a franchise quarterback, and those that are looking for one. The Browns think they’ve found one in Mayfield. So why not use him?

And if they’re not going to use him, why didn’t they draft someone else with the first overall pick, like Saquon Barkley?

Eventually, Mayfield will be the guy. The sooner he’s the guy, however, the sooner he’ll begin getting the kind of reps that will allow him to reach his ceiling. (PFT)

49ers running back Jerick McKinnon didn’t leave the field immediately after hurting his right knee during Sunday’s practice and said he felt fine, but that doesn’t mean he’s totally out of the woods.

The 49ers said after practice was over that McKinnon will be having an MRI to assess any damage.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports McKinnon grabbed the back of his knee while hobbling after a run early in the practice. McKinnon was not contacted during the play.

Washington running back Derrius Guice was diagnosed with a torn ACL after an MRI on Friday. Guice was injured in Thursday night’s game and, like McKinnon, said he felt well in the immediate aftermath of the injury.

The 49ers are currently without Matt Breida in the backfield due to a separated shoulder. Raheem Mostert and Joe Williams are next up on the running back depth chart. (PFT)

Hack's back: Eagles sign QB Christian Hackenberg…

    Hack is back.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed former New York Jets second-round pick Christian Hackenberg on Sunday.

Hackenberg had been unemployed for nearly two months before signing with Philly. After two disappointing seasons in the Big Apple, the Jets shipped Hackenberg to Oakland for a conditional seventh-round pick. The Raiders waived him within three weeks. The quarterback was last seen working out for the Patriots in June. That is, before Sunday.

The Eagles don't need Hackenberg. Philly employs MVP candidate Carson Wentz, Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles and third-year quarterbacks Nate Sudfeld and Joe Callahan. But with the former two currently sidelined by injuries, the Eagles' addition of Hackenberg lightens the work load of the latter two and gives the former Penn State signal-caller another chance to continue his career.

Hackenberg has never taken an NFL regular-season snap. (NFL.com)

Jets, Washington practices spark multiple fights...

Washington coach Jay Gruden wasn’t concerned about the possibility of fights during joint practices with the Jets. He should have been.

Via multiple reports, multiple fights broke out during Sunday’s sessions between the two teams.

“I know coach [Todd] Bowles will handle his group and I’ll try the best I can to handle ours,” Gruden said Wednesday.

Bowles likewise was oblivious to the possibility of extracurricular activity, foreshadowed by a public back-and-forth between Washington linebacker Zach Brown and former Washington receiver Terrelle Pryor, who now plays for the Jets.

“Coach Gruden, he coaches his team well,” Bowles said recently. “It’s just talk and banter. We are going down there for them to make us better, hopefully we make them better and we can get better as a team. Anything else to me is nonsense.”

Apparently, there was plenty of nonsense to go around on Sunday. There could be even more nonsense as the two teams continue their three days of joint sessions on Monday. (PFT)

Report: Broncos lose Jamal Carter for season...

The Broncos have reportedly lost a member of their secondary for the entire season.

Mike Klis of KUSA reports that safety Jamal Carter tore his hamstring during Saturday’s preseason game against the Vikings. Carter is looking at season-ending surgery to repair the injury, although Klis adds that Carter is expected to solicit another medical opinion before making any final decisions.

Carter made the Broncos as an undrafted free agent last year and played in all 16 games. He was on the field for nearly 75 percent of the team’s special teams snaps and ended the year with 11 tackles.

Carter’s injury leaves the Broncos with Darian Stewart, Justin Simmons, Will Parks, Su'a Cravens and Dymonte Thomas at safety. (PFT)

I feel like that Jalen Ramsey suspension is such B.S., it helps both the player and team. Most of the vets dont even wanna play these games.
Jalen Ramsey officially not getting hurt playing in preseason tilt #2.

Pats should suspend Hightower and Gronk for the remaining 3 preseason games.

Alshon Jeffery may miss first six games of the regular season...

Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery has been on the physically unable to perform list since the start of training camp, and he may not be off it any time soon.

Jeffery, who is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, could stay on the PUP list at the start of the regular season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

By rule, any player who is on the PUP list at the start of the regular season must miss at least the first six weeks of the season.

That would be a big blow to Philadelphia. Jeffery led all Eagles wide receivers with 789 receiving yards and nine touchdowns last season, and he added 219 yards and three touchdowns in the postseason. Philadelphia wants him back soon, but he may not be back as soon as is hoped.
