Browns expected to release Manziel as early as Wednesday

CLEVELAND (AP) ? Johnny Manziel's days with the Browns have dwindled to hours.

The team is expected to release the troubled quarterback as early as Wednesday, when the NFL begins its new calendar year and free agency opens.

However, there's a chance the move could be delayed. The Browns may wait to see if there is another team willing to give up a late conditional draft pick for Manziel, who still faces legal difficulties and could be suspended by the league.

Yup. Their peak is likely over. Still a contender but, these last four years on Wilson's rookie contract was their best shot.

It's almost like a low budget baseball team. You grow the talent and then you have a limited window to win before they leave to get paid. In baseball it's your own pocket, in the NFL it's the cap.

In case anyone wonder why the browns might hold on to Manzeil its in the hopes he is suspended soon which will allow them to recoup part of his signing bonus. If he is cut they cannot get any of it back.

Money well spent in my opinion...Sick of seeing the Browns logo every time this kid gets his face plastered on TMZ...At least then it would say "Former" ahead of the Browns....

I heard they might hold onto him in hopes of getting a late round draft pick in trade...who in their right mind would give them a doughnut, let alone a draft pick for him??

DE Charles Johnson takes big pay cut to return to Panthers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) ? Defensive end Charles Johnson has agreed to take a major pay cut to return to the Carolina Panthers, according to his agent.

The team announced Wednesday that Johnson has re-signed.

Johnson, who was released last week by Carolina in a salary cap move, received a one-year contract worth $3 million to return to the NFC champions, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus. He said Johnson turned down an offer in excess of $6 million from another team.

"Obviously his heart is with the Panthers and this wasn't about the money for him," Rosenhaus said.

Johnson was slated to cost the Panthers $15 million this season under the cap before he was cut.

He started nine games for the Panthers in 2015 but struggled with hamstring injuries and missed seven games while on short-term injured reserve.

He had one sack in the regular season and three sacks in three postseason games.

The 29-year-old Johnson has played nine seasons with Carolina and his 63? sacks are second-most in franchise history, behind Julius Peppers' 81. He registered at least nine sacks in four consecutive years from 2010-13 and had a career-high 12? sacks in 2012.

Johnson, a third-round draft pick out of Georgia in 2007, forced 17 fumbles during his career, which also ranks second in team history. He played in 118 regular-season games for the Panthers, third most for a defensive lineman in team history behind Mike Rucker's 139 games and Peppers' 122.

Pretty good pay day for Jones, but you gotta spend it this day and age. Marvin had 816 yards, 4 TD in 2015. Hopefully for the amount the Lions have to pay, he will exceed those numbers.

Doesn't sound like it. Fins need a corner after parting with Brent Grimes.

Apparently the Dolphins tried asking Grimes to sign a new contract today instead of releasing him and he told him to F off.

If that's the case then Miami must REALLY have concerns about Maxwell.

maxwell told the eagles he was fine after the season ended. he told the fins yesterday he can't do any push-ups or bench presses due to his shoulder. thanks dick. you just screwed the eagles big time.

So if the Eagles don't trade him now they are stuck with someone who was told to F off. It doesn't matter if it's his fault, he won't feel that way.

  17. Catfish Guest

"told to f off?" he was traded. that's different and a part of the business. him lying to them and having the deal voided is a slap in the face.

    Disgruntled is disgruntled though.

    Anyways...
Trade is apparently Alonso and Maxwell and #13 for #8. No 4th.

If true, HUGE coup for Eagles. Don't know what Miami's thinking...

The value of the alleged move falls roughly around the early 3rd, late 2nd.
