Kind of surprised by the colts moving back. I guess they figure they have a lot of holes to fill and need the pick but I could have seen them waiting to see if Barkley would be there before trading out. One way to help a battered QB is to give him a potentially dynamic RB.
The Jets might have pick of the QBs, Browns might go Barkley and the Giants may decide against a QB in the first. I personally think the Giants should take a QB, Eli isn’t getting any younger...but the Jets could potentially take the first QB, provided nobody leaps up to #2 with a trade with the Giants. I think they gave up too much, 3 2nds to move up three spots.
I hope so, but I think they probably have 3 guys who they think are at roughly the same level and they'll pick whoever is available. 1 and 2 are probably going QB too so we might not get our first choice. We already have a plan and backup plan at QB for this year so it allows us a developmental guy. I hope we don't but I have a feeling we are going to take Josh Allen if Rosen and Darnold are gone.
If the Giants aren't all in on a QB or Saquon there's no way they aren't trading down. I don't think there is any way that the Jets pick the first QB as much as I would like that.
He's better than Hackenberg. But I don't like him on the Jets. He isn't ready to step into any situation, never mind a crappy one with no real QB coach. Plus it's a way bigger investment.
That's why I said "2.0", he's better in all the things Hackenberg was good at but I still see all the same huge red flags that were there with Hackenberg. As much as I dislike Allen, I think that's an unfair assessment of the Jets too. The Jets have a solid young core and we have Bates and McCown to help develop a quarterback. I think we can help develop one of the top QBs, probably just not Josh Allen.
Vinny Curry quickly lands in Tampa The Eagles decided that $9 million in 2018 would be too much for defensive end Vinny Curry. The Buccaneers quickly gobbled him up. Curry has agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the Buccaneers, according to Jenna Laine of ESPN.com. Curry reportedly will make up to $27 million (key words “up to”), with $11.5 million guaranteed for injury. If none of the money is fully guaranteed at signing, the Bucs could back out of the deal based on what they see, or don’t see, in offseason workouts, training camp, or the preseason. Barring injury, the Bucs would be able to move on from Curry at no financial risk. A second-round pick out of Marshall in 2012, Curry didn’t start a game from 2012 through 2016, and he started every game in 2017 — including all three postseason games. But the Eagles couldn’t justify keeping him for cap reasons. (PFT)
He looks like a potential head case...in more ways than one... 1) attitude 2) Concussions (this one scares the hell out of me)
Personally I'd be happy with any of Darnold, Rosen or Mayfield so I wouldn't trade up any more. That said, if the Jets have a QB they really like and are worried the Bills are moving up to take him I can see that happening. I now feel like we have a pretty certain idea of who is going 1 and 2 though otherwise I think we would have waited till draft day.
If I'm taking a quick stab at how the top of the draft shakes out in relation to the quarterbacks after the Jets/Ind trade it would go like this - 1. Browns take Darnold 2. Giants take Barkley 3. Jets take Allen 4. Browns trade out - Bills take Rosen 5. Broncos take Mayfield 15. Cardinals take Rudolph
This seems like the worst case scenario for Jets fans. Rosen and Mayfield are still available and we take Allen. I can understand why we would (better upside, Maccagnan's QB style etc.) but Jets fans would be super pissed. Everyone I've talked to would rather Rosen or Mayfield than Allen.
I think this resonates with just about everyone that I have talked to that are fans of a team that is looking to move up and get a quarterback. They are all afraid of drafting Allen.
I agree. So much so, that I believe he is correct. Mayfield is where the Browns should go. They could even go w/Barkley first on the sure-thing, then maybe Mayfield if he's still there at #4 since he is not "prototype" material and Rosen/Darnold/Allen still in the picture for other QB hungry teams. I just don't see how Barkley isn't a top-3 pick considering the overall consensus on him.
Barkley's best chance at going in the top 4 would be with NYG, unless the Browns don't trade out of 4 and opt to go with him there. I can't see Cleveland passing on a quarterback at #1 unless they have the same grade on 3 different arms in this class. I can understand why people like Mayfield so much, but he just doesn't score out real well for me and everything that I base my scoring on relates to transitional traits. It's the things that I weigh heavily for what I believe determines success at the NFL level and to what degree. I think he has a long future in the league and will get more than one opportunity to start, but everything in my scoring indicates that Darnold, Allen, Rosen and Rudolph have a stronger chance for greater success at the next level.
