    Titans will release DeMarco Murray

DeMarco Murray said in January that he’s “very confident” that he can still be a lead back in an NFL offense.

He’ll have to prove his case with someone other than the Titans. The team announced on Thursday that they’ve told Murray that he will be released.

“I want to thank DeMarco for his contributions as a Titan, not only for what he did on the field but also in the locker room and in the community,” Titans General Manager Jon Robinson said in a statement. “He was a pro in every facet and we wish him and his family the best moving forward.”

Murray was set to make $6.5 million in salary and bonus during the 2018 season and had the same cap hit. The Titans will get all of that money back once Murray is officially off the roster.

Murray ran 184 times for 659 yards and six touchdowns last season and missed the team’s final three games with a hamstring injury. Derrick Henry led the Titans in rushing and will take over as the No. 1 back now that Murray will be heading elsewhere to continue his career. (PFT)

The Patriots offered the Seahawks a 3rd round pick for Michael Bennett right after they already agreed to a trade with the Eagles but before it was announced publicly. The Seahawks paused but then decided to honour their trade with the Eagles so they wouldn't hurt their reputation with the league.

Rams will take Aqib Talib contract as it is

Cornerback Aqib Talib‘s contract was too rich for the Broncos. It’s just right for the Rams.

Per multiple sources, the Rams will absorb the 32-year-old defensive back’s contract as it is, with an $11 million base salary in 2018 and an $8 million base salary in 2019.

The Broncos will carry $1 million in dead money for Talib in 2018.

The first-round pick of the Buccaneers in 2008, Talib spent four-plus years in Tampa, one-plus in New England, and four in Denver. He won a Super Bowl with the 2015 Broncos.

It’s possible that Talib could later revise the deal. However, Talib has made it clear that he won’t be revising his deal downward, per a source with knowledge of the situation. (PFT)

I'm sold, I think the Rams are for real and defensively even better now with the signing of Talib.

I think Seattle is in a rebuild and will likely battle with the Cardinals to stay out of the basement in the West. Hope so anyway... I'm not a Seahawks fan, lol.

If the Cardinals sign a good QB then they are competing for a playoff spot. The Seahawks almost feel like they are going to have a losing record for sure.

Franchising Joyner and acquiring Marcus Peters + Talib, Rams loading up the defensive backfield.
I’m still hesitant to give Goff and Mcvay any more credit than they’ve already been given. Do it again.

That's fair and I tend to agree and I'm leaning towards them being able of putting up points again. Who knows, a better defense may lead to more offensive opportunity's and they will do what they did last season.

...or just lay a large goose egg and play like hell, lol. We'll see.

have to think the majority opinion is that the Rams will be a contender in the NFC and the front runner in the West. i just want to see how the off season plays out and then see if the QB/Coach combo can do it again after the league has had time to adapt to them.

Eagles trade Torrey Smith to Panthers

The Eagles have reportedly made their second trade of the week.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that they have agreed to trade wide receiver Torrey Smith to the Panthers. The Eagles will get back cornerback Daryl Worley as compensation in a deal that can’t be officially consummated until March 14.

Smith signed a three-year, $15 million deal with the Eagles as a free agent last offseason, but the emergence of other receivers, a lack of guaranteed money and a tight cap situation pointed to his departure this month. Trading him for Worley clears over $4 million in cap space as Worley is still on the rookie deal he signed as a 2016 third-round pick.

It also gives the Eagles, who also traded for defensive end Michael Bennett this week, further insurance against the potential loss of Patrick Robinson in free agency. Worley started 14 games for Carolina last season and had a pair of interceptions.

The Panthers were expected to add to a wide receiver group fronted by Devin Funchess and 2017 second-round pick Curtis Samuel and Smith has been a deep threat throughout his career. That would seem to make him a fit for what Norv Turner has traditionally liked in the passing game and he’ll be joining the Panthers next week as long as nothing forces the teams to reconsider the deal over the next few days. Report: Seahawks to cut Richard Sherman today

  13. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

The Seahawks have released cornerback Richard Sherman, but he’s not necessarily done in Seattle.

Sherman told Albert Breer of SI.com that the Seahawks told him that cutting him was about money, not about thinking he’s no longer good enough.

“They wanted the financial flexibility going into free agency but expressed that they wanted me to return and will be in contact,” Sherman said.

The Seahawks are near the bottom of the NFL in available cap space even after cutting Sherman, so he’d likely need to settle for a lot less money if he’s going to play in Seattle in 2018. Now he’s a free agent, and he can find out exactly what he’s worth on the open market. (PFT)

That doesn't really matter. He was getting cut either way.

I forgot about this but it's a big point from this Smith Trade. Because it cant be made until the start of the league year that means that he still counts towards the cap until then so we need to make moves that don't involve Torrey Smith to get below the cap.

Sherman and Lane officially released by the Seahawks. Sherman released with a failed physical designation.

The Browns traded a 2018 and 2019 pick for Jarivs Landry and are now working on an extension.
