No I was just saying that if you just read my post and did a +1 a moment ago it was funny you posted the same thing.
So the alternative is...what, exactly? Franchising was the PERFECT solution in that case. You can't give him a big contract because he's only done it for one year; conversely, you can't low-ball him and let him walk.
i was watching espn last night and they were saying teams need a qb and can't risk throwing a inexperienced young qb out there etc so teams like the eagles and skins are going with what they known in bradford and cousins etc.
There is a place where they won't be going with Bradford and Cousins respectively. The Super Bowl. This is what is known too.
gid-10000% agree. as an eagles fan in 2 yrs they will be in the same boat as they are now - they still need a franchise qb. my mean older brother who has eagles season tix did not want paxton lynch with the 13th pick. he didn't want any qb in later rds too. that's fine but you must address it eventually. this move with bradford is like putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound as they won't win much and in 2 yrs will need to draft or trade for a qb. i would be happier with cousins than bradford. after seeing flacco win a sb and eli manning win 2 of them, you don't need a superstar at qb to win a super bowl. christ peyton just won another won and he can barely throw downfield. however you do need a good passer and a field general. sadly bradford is none of these.
QB Flacco, Baltimore Ravens agree on contract extension BALTIMORE (AP) ? The Baltimore Ravens and Joe Flacco have agreed on a contract extension that will keep the quarterback with the team through the 2021 season. Flacco and the Ravens agreed on a three-year extension Wednesday. If a new deal hadn't been made, Flacco's salary cap hit to the club would have been $28.55 million this season. The MVP of Super Bowl XLVII was on track last season to set several club records, but torn ligaments in his left knee in Week 11 sidelined him and ended a consecutive-games streak of 122. In 2013, Flacco signed a then-record six-year deal for $120.6 million. Terms of the new deal were not immediately available.
AP Source: Browns' Mack voids contract, becomes free agent CLEVELAND (AP) ? Alex Mack has snapped the ball into the Browns' court. The three-time Pro Bowl center has voided the final three years of his contract and will become a free agent, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday. He will be eligible to sign with other teams when NFL free agency opens on March 9, but Mack can still re-sign with the Browns and that is "very possible," said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. Mack had until Friday to opt out of his contract. One of the league's best interior linemen, Mack was set to make $24 million over the next three years on the deal he signed with the Browns in 2014. Cleveland's front office and coaching staff view Mack as one of the team's leaders and would hate to see the 30-year-old leave. He recently met with new coach Hue Jackson to discuss the team's plans going forward. Mack has expressed his desire to play for a winning team and he's yet to experience that in Cleveland as the Browns are just 33-79 since he arrived in 2009.
But Bradford is getting $36.MIL over 2 years. Thats $18 MIL. a season and he has done nothing in the NFL. This is an example of how the owners screw themselves. Don't sell Flacco short. He's better than Cousins or Bradford, Bradford probably the worst of the lot. They gave a stat this morning on ESPN on how much Bradford has made in the league so far and he's never won a playoff game. Naturally it was in the millions but I wasn't paying close attention and didn't get the exact number. But it was big. Has he ever had a team of his with a winning record? What was the Eagles record last season? Just think, without Chip, the Eagles would be stuck with Noles. Then I would think they would HAVE to draft a QB...... Theres a set price for starting QBs and thats not good because many are really not starting QBs. They are really backups, but because theres not enough good QBs to go around, some teams have to start basically backups and pay them starting money. That means theres something wrong with the system. Take Houston (please) and what are they paying their QB's? The last decent Bears QB is probably Sid Luckman. And he's thats over 50 years ago.......Browns is another example....
bradford was the last rookie class to have more money for the top picks...i think he got like $50mil as a rookie. it's almost half that now or worse.
There are 13 QBs making $16 mil or more a year. I'm not saying Sam Bradford deserves it, I'm saying that's pretty much the going rate for a starting NFL QB these days. It's what Stafford, Cutler, and RGIII are making. I've asked Gidion, and I've asked Patschamps - "what's the alternative?"
There is no alternative right now Axe. But the owners should try and do something about this in the next CBA.....
Do about what...? Rookie salaries have been chopped dramatically since Bradford was drafted, and the salary cap keeps going up and up so owners are able to pay for players. I'm not sure what this has to do with the CBA...?
