If New England is really better than Pittsburgh, and Harrison saw a very limited number of snaps this year, what makes everyone so sure he'll see much of the field in New England anyway? 5 Games Played // 3 Tackles // 1 sack (tackles/sacks all in 1 game v KC) He could potentially provide some intel, but #92 was never in the offensive huddle. I'm more concerned about the permanent stains and stank that lingers on with Cheatriot players. #81ThePatriotWay

Because he won't be behind younger better players at his position in NE. DE and LB play and depth has been the Pats' biggest problem all year.

Johnny Manziel cleared to play in the CFL. He has a few weeks to negotiate a contract with June Jones and the Tiger-Cats.

I don't know what to think. His style seems to work well but it's Johnny Manziel.

There is talks that if Hamilton doesn't sign him then they will trade his rights to Montreal. Coach Mike Sherman was Texas A&M's head coach and recruited Johnny but was fired at the end of the 2011 season before the Dolphins signed him. Johnny played in 2012.

Giants hire Dave Gettleman as General Manager

Former Panthers General Manager Dave Gettleman is the new G.M. of the Giants.

The Giants moved quickly to hire Gettleman after firing Jerry Reese on December 4, signaling that they’re eager to begin anew after the disaster that was the 2017 season.

“Given where we are as a team, we thought it was important to bring in someone with experience as a General Manager and a proven track record,” Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch said in a statement. “Dave’s experience is unparalleled. He did an outstanding job as general manager in Carolina, and he was vital to our success during his tenure here. Dave is going to bring his own approach to our organization in how we draft and acquire players through free agency.”

The Giants also interviewed Marc Ross, Louis Riddick and Kevin Abrams for the job. Abrams has been serving as interim G.M. since Reese was fired.

Gettleman will now get to work on the next tasks, namely hiring a new head coach and deciding whether to stick with Eli Manning or go looking for a new franchise quarterback. (PFT)

Chuck Pagano is out in Indy

Like Black Friday, Black Monday now starts a day early.

The Colts have fired coach Chuck Pagano, after six years on the job and three in a row with no playoff appearances.

“Chuck Pagano provided Colts fans with many exciting wins and memories as head coach of the Colts,” owner Jim Irsay said in a press release. “Throughout his tenure in Indianapolis, he impacted the lives of the players he coached, those who he worked with in the organization and Colts fans across the globe. Chuck’s first season was one of the more inspirational stories in NFL history as he courageously battled and overcame leukemia. As a result, his Chuckstrong Foundation has raised millions for cancer research. We are thankful for Chuck’s contributions to our franchise and community and we wish him, Tina and the entire Pagano family nothing but the best moving forward.”

NFL sets schedule for Wild Card weekend

Setting the playoff field for the 2017 season went right down to the wire and now we’ll have a week to look forward to the first round of playoff action.

The NFL has announced the schedule of games for January 6 and 7 and it kicks off in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon at 4:35 p.m. ET with the Titans visiting the Chiefs. That game will be on ESPN while Saturday night’s game will feature the return of playoff football to Los Angeles. The Rams will host the Falcons in a game on NBC that gets underway at 8:15 p.m. ET.

Sunday afternoon’s action will start with a 1:05 p.m. ET game that pits Jaguars coach Doug Marrone against the team he walked away from after the 2014 season. The Bills stumbled through two years with Rex Ryan after Marrone decided to opt out of his contract, but they ended a playoff drought dating back to 1999 in Sean McDermott’s first season on the job

That game will be on CBS and the final matchup of the weekend will find the Panthers visiting the Saints on FOX at 4:40 p.m. ET. It will be the third meeting of the year between the NFC South rivals and the Saints won both regular season matchups.

It’s not official yet, but it’s getting there.

ESPN reports that ESPN employee Jon Gruden will be the next head coach of the Raiders. The connection is less premature, given that owner Mark Davis already has fired Jack Del Rio. The connection is still somewhat premature, given that the Raiders will be required to comply with the Rooney Rule before making it officially official with Gruden.

Regardless, Davis likely wouldn’t have cleared out Del Rio if he didn’t think he could get Gruden. And Gruden likely wouldn’t have given the nod of approval to the report that he’ll be the next head coach if it wasn’t a done deal.

Meanwhile, Gruden is scheduled to work Saturday’s wild-card game between the Titans and Chiefs. Given that Gruden is about to take over the Raiders, his former colleague Andy Reid may not be thrilled about welcoming Gruden to practice and to production meetings.

    Lions fire Jim Caldwell

The Lions have kicked off a new year by starting a search for a new head coach.

The team announced on Monday morning that General Manager Bob Quinn informed Jim Caldwell that has been fired.

Caldwell went 36-28 in four years with the Lions and took the team to the playoffs twice, but a second straight 9-7 season wasn’t enough to get them back into the postseason this year. A lopsided loss to the Ravens in Week 13 and a sloppy loss to the Bengals in Week 16 may have sealed Caldwell’s fate after the team mulled making a change before the 2016 season.

The firing gives Quinn, who came to Detroit from New England, his first chance to hire a head coach since joining the Lions that year. Early reports have honed in on Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia as a top candidate for the job and the Lions will be able to interview him this week with New England on a bye.

Bears fire John Fox after three seasons

Of all the firings to come today, this one might have been the most #asexpected.

According to multiple reports, the Bears have fired coach John Fox.

Fox was 14-34 in three seasons with the Bears, and his preference for veterans wasn’t and isn’t a good mix for building around a young quarterback such as Mitchell Trubisky.

The 62-year-old Fox didn’t have nearly the success in Chicago that he did in Carolina (73-71) or Denver (46-18), as he went to Super Bowls in both those stops.

While his 133-123 record isn’t great, he had success with quarterbacks such as Jake Delhomme and a declining Peyton Manning, and was able to punch above his weight a few times when tasked with rebuilding teams.
