I think that is LSU football, along with most other Louisiana schools.

Talib, Jackson, Webb fined for Super Bowl infractions

Denver Broncos fiery cornerback Aqib Talib was fined a total of $26,044 on Friday for taunting and face mask fouls in the Super Bowl.

Teammate Malik Jackson was docked $8,681 for unnecessary roughness and Carolina third-string quarterback Joe Webb was fined $8,681 for unnecessary roughness on the final play of the game.

Talib was whistled for taunting in the first quarter, keeping a Carolina drive alive. He later grabbed wide receiver Corey Brown's face mask following a 13-yard catch at the Denver 2, essentially a 1-yard penalty that preceded Carolina's only touchdown.

Afterward, Talib admitted he grabbed Brown's face mask on purpose to send a message and was expecting to get fined, adding: "But hey, we're world champs."

Well, the State of Louisiana owns the Super Dome, not New Orleans. The city doesn't take in any income from the Saints to my knowledge. The local businesses do, but the City doesn't make money, yet they must account in their budget for police and other resources surrounding the games that the Saints play. It probably depends on the deal the state has with the city for using the Super Dome in the city. If they decide they can no longer afford to use resources and the agreement allows them to get out of that, then it would fall on the state or team to fund those outside resources. Honestly, I have no clue what the deals are in place with any of these entities, merely pointing out how they could effect the business in general.

I would say an agreement could certainly be made with the city to cover expenditures related to these resources that would all but make any other arguments moot. The city would then have to accept such a deal, otherwise they could/would lose business in the city, further causing their budget funds to shrink further.

He honestly should get suspension for the face mask IMHO. When you admit you did it on purpose that should eb all they need to sit your ass down for a game.

Denver Broncos safety Shiloh Keo DUI charge in Idaho

BOISE, Idaho (AP) ? Denver Broncos backup safety Shiloh Keo faces a charge of driving under the influence in Idaho.

An Idaho State Police dispatcher says the 28-year-old Keo was taken into custody just after 2 a.m. Saturday and booked into the Ada County Jail.

He wasn't on the jail roster later in the morning, indicating he had posted bail. Jail officials didn't have additional information.

The Broncos said in a statement: "We are aware of the matter involving Shiloh Keo and are in the process of reviewing it."

Keo recovered the New England Patriots' onside kick in the waning minutes of the AFC championship game to help the Broncos advance to the Super Bowl. Denver went on to defeat the Carolina Panthers in the Super Bowl.

Keo has a home in southwest Idaho.

Aaron Hernandez settles lawsuit with friend who was shot

MIAMI (AP) ? Former NFL player Aaron Hernandez has settled a lawsuit filed by a friend who says Hernandez shot him in the face.

The Boston Globe reports that attorneys for Alexander Bradley said in documents filed Friday in federal court in Miami that the suit was settled. Terms weren't disclosed. Attorneys for both men couldn't be reached for comment.

Bradley was seeking damages for injuries he suffered in a February 2013 shooting after he and Hernandez left a Miami strip club.

The former New England Patriots player is serving a life term for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee.

Hernandez has also pleaded not guilty to murder charges in Boston, where he's accused of gunning down two men outside a nightclub in 2012.

LSU football actually sustains itself. One of the very few schools that does. However if there are no teachers or administration there are no students and if there are no students there is no football.

yeah Joe it was something about the budget and sustaining the cost of football etc. i just thought it was funny that their response was going after the football team.

That's because it is the most shocking thing they can throw at the public to get them to allow more tax dollars.

Not exactly correct, Irish. I believe the City of New Orleans does have an income tax. I'm not certain of the percent but say it's 1% of earnings within the city limits. That means that the City of New Orleans gets 1% of the 106 players' game checks eight times a year.

If the AVERAGE player makes $200K / year. That means (on the average) they make $12,500 per game. Multiply that by 106 (53 active players x 2 teams) and that equals $1,325,000 in earned income per game. Multiply that by 8 home games and you get $10,600,000. One percent of that equals $106,000 per season. (This would not include the salaries of the participating team's coaches or the Saint's front office.)

$106K won't cover the expenses for local law enforcement, etc. but NOLA does receive some income.
