    Seattle Seahawks...

Seahawks left tackle Rees Odhiambo suffered a blunt cardiac injury on Sunday night and remains hospitalized.

Odhiambo is believed to have suffered a cardiac contusion, or a bruised heart, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The injury appeared to take place when Odhiambo was hit by Colts defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard on an interception return. Odhiambo had to be attended to by the medical staff after that play, but he returned to the field on the Seahawks’ next offensive possession and stayed in the game. He played every offensive snap but was hospitalized afterward.

Odhiambo is the second Seahawks left tackle to suffer a serious injury this season. They have already lost left tackle George Fant to a torn ACL

    Dallas Cowboys...

Elliott appeals court hearing ends, no ruling issued...

The NFL thought that a hearing from the bench during Monday’s hearing before the U.S. Court of Appeals hearing in the Ezekiel Elliott case was possible. It didn’t ultimately happen that.

Via Kate Hairopoulos of the Dallas Morning News, the hearing in New Orleans concluded without a decision being issued.

Elliott did not attend the proceedings before a three-judge panel, which featured “a lot of questions,” particularly from Judge Jennifer Welker Elrod. The judge seemed to be particularly focused on the issue of subject-matter jurisdiction; the NFL claims that, because Elliott filed his lawsuit in Texas federal court before the ruling on his internal appeal was issued, jurisdiction does not exist and cannot exist in the Texas federal court that has blocked the NFL from suspending him while the lawsuit proceeds.

Judge Elrod also asked why Elliott and the NFL Players Association didn’t simply wait to file the case in Texas until after the ruling on the internal appeal was announced. Although the answer provided to that question wasn’t mentioned, here’s what I would have said: (1) because the NFL controls the process, the NFL knows when the ruling will be announced, and the NFL can always run to the court of its choosing, filing its own lawsuit before the player ever has a chance to do so, like it did in the Brady case; and (2) the process and the result in Elliott’s case proved that waiting for a ruling was indeed futile, making it proper to file the lawsuit before the internal appeal was final.

It’s unclear when the external appeal will be final. The ruling, when it comes, will potentially spark another skirmish that will require further lawyering. Regardless, it’s clear that the league is determined to keep Elliott from playing — even if it plans in the interim to herald his in-game accomplishments on Twitter. (PFT)

Bad news for the Raiders, although EJ Manuel is better than their previous backup. Outside of his horrible INT, he played fairly well. That pick was bad though, as soon as he let it go I knew it was going to be picked. Put way to much air under the throw. Not a bad decision to throw to that receiver, but gave the safety enough time to make the play and the Broncos don't drop many passes that they get their hands on. Raiders should be able to weather the storm, provided they get Crabtree back.

    Kansas City Chiefs...

Kareem Hunt on pace for single-season scrimmage-yards record.

A quarter of the way through his rookie season, Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt is on pace to accomplish things that have never been done in NFL history.

Hunt has 502 rushing yards and 157 receiving yards this season, and that total of 659 yards from scrimmage puts him on pace for 2,636 scrimmage yards this season. The NFL record for yards from scrimmage is 2,509, set by Chris Johnson in 2009.

Hunt is also on pace for 2,008 rushing yards, which would top Eric Dickerson’s rookie record of 1,808 yards.

Hunt is way ahead of the rest of the league in rushing, having topped 500 yards before anyone else even reached 400 yards. Rams running back Todd Gurley is second in the NFL with 362 yards.

And Hunt has gained 372 yards just in the second halves of games this year, meaning he has more second-half yards than anyone else has gained in four full games this season.

Four games into his career Hunt looks not only like the rookie of the year, but also like the NFL’s MVP.

Danny Trevathan suspension reduced to one game on appeal...

Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan has had his suspension cut in half.

After Trevathan appealed the two-game suspension the NFL handed him last week, the league announced today that the suspension has been reduced to one game.

Former NFL linebacker Derrick Brooks served as the appeals officer and made the decision to take a game off from Trevathan’s suspension.

The suspension was for a brutal and illegal helmet-to-helmet hit that sent Packers receiver Davante Adams to the hospital on Thursday night. Although the hit was penalized and deserved to be, Trevathan has no history of dirty play, and Brooks apparently decided that one game would be enough to teach Trevathan not to do it again.

Trevathan will miss Monday night’s game against the Vikings and return next week at Baltimore.

    San Francisco 49ers...

49ers receiver Marquise Goodwin has suffered his fourth concussion in the last 14 months.

The 49ers confirmed that Goodwin suffered a concussion in Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals. Last year with the Bills he suffered a concussion in August in a training camp practice, in September in a game and in October in a game.

In all three cases last year, Goodwin quickly returned to action, missing only one game despite those three concussions. He’s currently in the concussion protocol and will have to be cleared by an independent neurologist before he can return to the field again.

Some neurologists have said repeated concussions can have a cumulative effect and that each additional concussion carries additional risk of long-term effects. For Goodwin, that has to be a concern.

    Minnesota Vikings...

The Vikings have plenty of question marks on offense, particularly at the quarterback and running back position. At receiver, they have a couple of exclamation points.

Currently, Stefon Diggs leads the league in receiving, with 391 yards. Adam Thielen sits at No. 3, with 358. (Between them is Steelers receiver Antonio Brown, with 388 yards.)

It’s unclear whether it will last, given uncertainty at quarterback and the absence of Dalvin Cook for the rest of the year. But if the Vikings are going to get to the postseason this year, they’ll need Diggs and Thielen to keep getting it done at a high level for the next 12 games.

    Washington Redskins...

Josh Norman suffered a rib fracture and small damage to his lung lining during Monday night's loss, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday.

The Washington Redskins are on their bye week, and Norman isn't ruled out to return when the team takes the field in Week 6, Rapoport added.

The Pro Bowl corner exited just before halftime of Monday night's tilt versus the Kansas City Chiefs after aiding on a tackle.

"That's the first time that's ever happened to where I couldn't get out there," Norman said after the game, via ESPN. "I just have to take my time and have faith.

"I wanted to go out there, but do I more help the team or hurt the team if I can't really run and breathe hard?"

Wednesday's news is a good turn for Norman, who appears to have avoided a possible punctured lung or other severe internal damage. Even if he does miss a game or two, Washington should get their top corner back sooner rather than later. (PFT)

    Minnesota Vikings...

The Vikings have lost their rookie running back, and now they’ve added a veteran backup.

Stevan Ridley is signing with the Vikings today, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

The 28-year-old Ridley was cut by the Broncos after the preseason. Last year he played in just one regular-season game, with the Falcons, and had three carries for seven yards. He also spent time with the Colts and Lions last year but never got into a game with them.

Ridley’s best season came in 2012, when he had 290 carries for 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Patriots. But he hasn’t been the same player since 2014, when he suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Cook was off to an outstanding start this season, with 74 carries for 354 yards before he got hurt on Sunday. No player can replace all of Cook’s production, but the Vikings hope Ridley can help.

Tropical Storm Nate is on a collision course for New Orleans for Sunday and is likely to become a hurricane. At least it won't be a major hurricane, the storm is moving quickly (i.e. minimizes rainfall) and the Saints are already on bye.
