The Broncos were hoping some rest and rehab would help Jared Crick. But it now looks like the defensive end could miss much of the season. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Crick is having back surgery, and is likely headed to injured reserve. Crick was carted off the field Aug. 14 during a training camp practice, and was inactive for Monday’s opener. It’s unclear if he’d be a candidate to return, but it’s a blow to a Broncos defense that has had to deal with injuries up front, including losing Billy Winn for the season.
Jacoby Brissett to start for Colts against the Cardinals Jacoby Brissett is apparently a quick study. Or quick enough to be better than Scott Tolzien. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Brissett will start for the Colts Sunday against the Cardinals, just over two weeks from when he was acquired in a trade with the Patriots. Tolzien was bad last week, throwing a pick-six on his first attempt and never really recovering, and Brissett got some time late. It’s a desperate move for coach Chuck Pagano, another team pulling the plug on a guy who worked all offseason as the starter after less than a full game. But honestly, the Colts are in a bind until Andrew Luck comes back from his shoulder surgery (and perhaps beyond), so any spark would be welcome
Brissett was pretty good in NE, in the minimal chances he had to play. Tolzien is lifelong journeyman backup QB. Period.
Anyone who is on the opening day 53 man roster and goes on IR is eligible to return. The key is that they have to be on the original 53 man roster.
NFL files motion to stay Ezekiel Elliott injunction with appeals court Two years ago, the NFL accepted the decision to block Tom Brady‘s suspension pending the outcome of his litigation. This time around, the NFL has opted for a more aggressive approach regarding the ruling that blocks Ezekiel Elliott‘s suspension. The league has filed an “Emergency Motion for Stay Pending Appeal,” which specifically requests a decision by September 19 and no later than September 26. The earlier date would take Elliott off the field for the Week Three game against the Cardinals, if the motion is granted. The later date would start the suspension in Week Four, against the Rams. The stay would allow the suspension to be enforced while the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit considers whether to overturn the ruling that delays the appeal. The league’s primary goal seems to be putting the issue of jurisdiction before the appeals court, hopeful that the appeals court will find that the entire case should be dismissed because it was filed too soon, before the federal judge in Texas rules on the issue of whether the case should be dismissed. Ultimately, the league hopes to secure the dismissal of the Texas case, with the lawsuit the league filed in New York then taking precedence. Based on the eventual outcome in the Brady case, the league believes that it would quickly win its New York case. (M.Florio PFT)
I can see this motion being denied. Otherwise, the suspension would have to start counting "now" (or when a new decision is made), and once the decision is made, "time served" would then come into play. This is a unique development. Interesting too.
Seems like the NFL is hell bent for election to convict Zeke and save face... I'll be happy when they figure out what exactly their trying to do and say in such cases.
Eagles place Donnell Pumphrey on IR after tearing his hamstring at practice. Not really a big blow. He's been disappointing but the Eagles want him to be ready for next year when Sproles is gone. Next offseason will be telling.
Cardinals will be without starting RB David Johnson, starting WR John Brown, starting LG Mike Iupati and starting LT DJ Humphries.
I liked Brissett here. Seemed like a good guy and seemed to progress every chance he had. However, I'm not so sure it's that he's a quick study. Going from the NE offense to whatever Pagano is doing in Indy, may be like going from college level calculas back to 3rd grade arthimatic. The Pats have had a couple Colts come over in the couple years. Wayne opted for retirement saying it was to much work here and Allen said it was much more difficult to learn this offense. Now Dorsett is on the roster too and I worry both he and Allen may not catch on despite having talent. Anyway, I hope the best for Brissett, just wish it wasn't with the Colts.
